Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 16 Mar 2010 04:22

Hi all,

Sylvia, glad Matthew is doing so well and tell your daughter not to blink or he will be all grown up lol Can't believe how old my son is, doesn't seem that long I was coping with the p88ing and p**ping lol

Hope your o.h.'s tooth will be ok now - at least he had no time to dwell on the treatment to come with it falling apart as it did.

Huia, glad you have been getting out and about with friends and such, and hope Phil was ok when you visited. It will be a nostalgic day on Sunday - hope your son visits to make the day a little special and that you can think of happy memories.

My counselling session went well again, I have been jotting down things as they come to me and then we talk about them at the sessions so I hope that will help me get rid of some demons, of which there seem to be many. The counsellor is very perceptive when I am talking to her and picks up on things quickly which we go into in more depth and she is beginning to see a lot of the things I feel hurt about etc by just picking them out of conversation.

Debbie, it's hard to know how best to deal with children going to funerals, my son coped incredibly well with his beloved Grandad's funeral when he was just 7 and a half altho his cousin, a month older, wasn't allowed to attend, my son thought that was really strange and couldn't understand why his cousin wasn't allowed there. He was taken on holiday soon afterwards to Disneyworld in American, my son (and my Mum) both said Oh I wonder where he will go when Nanny/I die lol It wasn't even as tho he was that close to my Dad either, couldn't have cared less whether he spoke to him or not or said goodbye after a visit so why he was supposed to be so upset I don't know. Funny family, my brothers lot.

Hope everyone else is ok and that our Jean is having nice weather on her holiday

love

Huia Report 16 Mar 2010 08:44

Liz, I am now hoping that my son doesnt come up this weekend as there is a 'Brain Day' on Saturday. This is when there is a free public open day at Auckland University, presented by their Centre for Brain Research and the Neurological foundation of NZ. I want to go and find out if they would accept Phil's brain when he dies! I think Phil would appreciate it being used for research as we are both down as organ donors. If son does want to come up I am hoping that he will come early enough to take me.

Huia.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 16 Mar 2010 15:58

Huia, that sounds interesting and hopefully your son will be in time to take you or attend with you - can you not contact him and make sure it works out? It would be very useful to them to have Phil's brain and might mean a step forward in the fight against Alzheimers so a very worthy cause.

Take care

Mo in Kent Report 16 Mar 2010 20:32

Hi everyone.
Sallie we won again, yippee. 4-2 in the team game, and 2-1 in the pairs.
I'm, sure it's because off all the good luck wishes I get from you all. I was also top average again. I was gob smacked at that,as I did not consider myself to be playing that well.
I am so sorry Richard was unlucky with the job. It can become so disheartening. My son has got try looking once he gets back from Scotland. He and his girlfriend are going up to her grannies for a few days. They both need the break away,as they worked non stop getting the business up and running, just to lose it. It has now come to light that the
brewery intend to sell the pub.
How did the valuation go Sallie. I hope that they quoted a good price,to enable you to get your bungalow.
It's surprising what we accumalate over the years isn't it Ann. The things we store away for a rainy day,in case they come in handy in the future, and yet never use again.
Huia, it sounds like you have been filling your days very well. I bet you really enjoyed the concert.
I hope you found Phil well when you visited him.
It's very understandable that you would want to fill your time on Sunday.
Remember all the good times my love, and there were many I am sure.
I hope your son does come up to see you,so that you can both go to the Brain day together. It may make things easier for you,not to be alone.
Oooh Sylvia, hearing about your OH,has sent shivers down my spine.
I had my check up done yesterday, with no treatment needed, but she scraped down my gum, with her instrument, and it is very tender now.
It amazes me,that we can go into the dentist, with seemingly nothing wrong, and come away with problems.
Bless little Matthew,he seems to be doing so well now.
I hope the Pacific storms passed you by.
What a good idea to jot things down Liz. At least that way you wont forget if you need to ask questions,or if any worries crop up. These therapists are flipping clever at picking up things, that we dont realise that we are worrying about.
Hows Mr Cheerful been Liz. Still smiling is he. lol
A big hello to Marie and Debbie,Julia. Special ~~~~~~~~to our Jean for when she comes back and browses our thread.
Good night one and all. Love Mo xxx

Sallie Report 16 Mar 2010 23:06

Hi Ladies,

The valuer came, she was very nice, and gave us a price that I thought was good, although I think Alun was hoping for a bit more. We have another valuer coming tomorrow afternoon, so we'll see what they will have to say.The one that came today asked us if she could take photos from the back of our house, because of the lovely view we have. So if it helps to sell the house, then of course thats okay.

Mo, well done on winning again last night, I bet you were all chuffed to bits. Keep it up all of you. I hope that your son will soon be able to get another job, and that all will be sorted out for him and his girlfriend very soon. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for both of them. It was very underhand of the brewery, probably waiting until the pub was up and running and starting to do well, before selling it. They were just sly and coniving with both your son and his girldriend.

Huia, it would be nice if your son came up to you at the weekend, then he can go with you to Aukland University. I'm sure he would find it very interesting to know all about the research they're doing on brain research.
It would also be nice for you to have company on Sunday, too. I also think that Phil would agree with you if he could, when he dies, about giving his brain for research.

Liz, you're sounding a lot better since you started going to the Counsellor.
It's amazing how they pick up on things that we tell them, and go into depth about what we say, it also makes us think about things in a different way---things that we thought were of no signifigance, but are.

Ann, it looks very much that I'll have to get rid of the dolls house, as we're hoping to be able to view a bungalow, two roads away from where Jennie lives. So if we do move there, we'll have to get rid of a lot more than just the dolls house.

Julia, how are things with you? I hope that you're alright. I'm late on here today, have'nt had much chance before now, had to go T----s to get a few things that we needed, then Jennie and Michael came over and also had a couple of phone calls. According to the Estate Agent they are putting another house, just down the road from us, up for sale in the next couple of days. I know the people that live there, the lady is such a lovely person, apparently they are moving to somewhere in the Nottingham area, to a bungalow. She has heart problems and her eldest daughter has cancer, so they want to move to be nearer her.

Sylvia, good to hear that the party went well--nice to know that I'm not the only one that makes too much food. Still, it's better than not enough-- that would be so embarrassng. Lovely to hear that MJ is doing well, and it sounds as though mum and dad are also well. I hope you miss the worse of the Pacific storms.

Marie, hope all is well with you and your family. Take care of yourself!

Debbie, I'll be thinking about you all tomorrow.

I hope Jean and J are enjoying their holiday, and that the weather will stay nice for them, for the rest of the week.

Well, I'm ready for bed, so I'll say goodnight to you all. Take care!

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Hi everyone

Physio day today, so this is my first time on.

It poured all night, wind was quite high .................... sun came out in the late afternoon! But it was so warm!! It got to about 13 or 14C at least.

OH went into the Garden early this morning, and I fell asleep again although I hadn't intended to do so. Was woken up by the phone ................. OH having talked to the receptionist at the dentist re yesterday's operation, wanted to let me know that the bill was just over $5300 (about £2500) ....... GULP!

That isn't the end of it, of course .......... I think there are two more crowns to be removed and the "bits" underneath examined. We can claim some of it back from our extended dental benefits, but still ...................................

Oh Sylvia, what a lot of money to have to pay out and more to be done too?
Scary!
O.h. has been surprisingly chirpy considering he has cycled yesterday too and is doing longer hours all this week so wonder if he will cycle today too . I think he has to go on a course on Thursday so will have to take the car as he will need to travel between the two factories and that's a bit much on a bike lol

My son is fed up with his job, so is taking this afternoon off to go to the job centre etc he looks out all the time for a new job but can't find anything even tho he sends his cv out. It's so worrying for them isn't it? He is thinking of applying for work in the factory o.h. works in even tho he isn't keen on the idea of factory work and shifts, but if it means he earns more money and can clear his debts and get a car, if he passes his test, then it will be worth doing it for a year or so and will be another string to his bow.
It's very hard for young people to find jobs and he has no real qualifications altho he has done several different jobs, he really is a people person and enjoys that best, but beggars can't be choosers, well he isn't quite a beggar lol but you know what I mean.

Anyway must finish clearing some emails and nearly time for bed.

Debbie, will be thinking about you all, hope the day is bright and not rainy, nothing worse than a grey wet day for a funeral.

take care all,
Lizxxxx

Deborah Report 17 Mar 2010 10:09

Hi All,

Just thought I would pop in here before I get stuck into family matters for the rest of the day.

A gorgeous day here today, dry and sunny with only a gentle breeze. The forecast is for it to go up to 14º later on so it should be nice and sunny in the church for the service. Neither of the older boys have decided to come with us. We gave them the choice and they chose not to come, so I am fine with that. I wouldn't have wanted to push their decisions either way.

Peter is holding up well at the moment but I think the funeral will be a testing time. He was the only one there with his dad when he died, and he was able to have a very long in depth heart to heart "chat" (one sided of course), before his dad slipped away from him. So he is at peace with the whole thing at the moment.

Other matters, Mo, well done with the darts. You'll have to create a "Touring Team" and play the teams over here. Ladies darts is quite a big thing here, both in Pubs and other Social Groups.

Sallie, it is hard to move house, but you are doing it for all the right reasons. I hope the valuations come up to Hubby's standards & expectations. LOL.

Huia, if I am not on here before the weekend, I wish you all the best for Sunday. It would be lovely if your son could spend some quality time with you and the pair of you do things that you want.

Finally, I have heard from Linda and (thank goodness) she and her OH had a lovely few days in Jersey. They managed to pack in a load of things and seem to have enjoyed themselves. So my Tourist Guide efforts worked.

Speak to you all soon and thank you to everyone for your kind thoughts at this difficult time for our family.

Hi all

the weather is lovely .... sunny and warm during the day at about 14 or 15C. This is supposed to last through the weekend, although the nights will be cold (1 or 2C) because the skies are cloudless.

J and MJ had their 7 day checkup earlier today .......... I got a message that everything is fine, although she was not expecting that the pain from the stitches would not be likely to go until the end of next week! She's been lucky .... never had stitches before!!

OH has to go back to the dentist tomorrow (Thursday) to have a temporary bridge installed ...... he presently has a gap in the teeth at the side of his right upper jaw. I'm hoping that this is included in the amount we've already paid, but won't know until tomorrow!

We're lucky in that we've been in this house since 1972. It is the Canadian style bungalow ...... main floor on one level, but with a basement 6-8' high where there is a fmaily room, work space, laundry room, etc.

The house was big enough for us as a 2-some when we bought it, for 3 when we had our daughter, and is a good size for us now that we are back to 2. We've done major renovations over the year, including building an extension ..... but it is still only 2 bedrooms!

I dread the thought of having to move from here after almost 40 years. Gawd, the things we have accumulated!!

Actually OH is on a clear out spree ..... he's going through lots of the stuff in the basement and getting rid of lots of things that we no longer need or use .......... like tourist brochures from UK, S Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Leningrad, etc in the 1970s that we kept as souvenirs and in case we went back.

If we ever get back to those countries, I'm sure there will be new brochures to read!!

Take care everyone

Debbie,I hope today went off o.k,and that your OH coped. I was thinking off you all,and hoping and praying that it was not to much off a trial for the family.
Nothing exciting been happening here today. I went up to town to meet friends for coffee this morning. It was glorious sunshine, and it was such a pleasure to be able to sit outside in the fresh air for a change.
Tommorrow we have to help move our grandaughter to her new home.
This is the grandaughter, that had the biopsy done before christmas. Still
can't get anything out off her about it. So I am hoping and praying no news is good news.
I hope you are all well, and those in the U.K are enjoying our pleasant weather, whilst it lasts.

Debbie, I hope all went well today for your family. I am sure you did the right thing letting the boys choose whether to go or not. We did the same with our grandsons for my dad's funeral (their gt grandpa), they also chose not to go.
You will be able to charge for your tour rep services soon Lol!!! Glad Linda enjoyed herself.

Sylvia, Wow!! I thought our dental charges were bad enough, hope whatever he is having done lasts.

Mo well done for top average. Nice to be top in something!

Sallie, good luck with the bungalow. I don't want to even think about downsizing. We have 4 bedrooms here so have an 'office' each, it keeps us out of each others hair. I would hate to lose that. Make sure you get a good price for your dolls house, there are collectors about.

Sallie Report 17 Mar 2010 21:51

Hi Everyone,

Well, this the fourth time I written this post, lost it three times, so now I’m doing it in word, and then copy and paste it across to GR, with a lot of help from Alun. So I hope this works!

Debbie, it was a nice surprise to see that you had posted this morning. I hope that the funeral went off alright, and that your hubby wasn’t too upset. At least it looks as though the weather was bright and sunny for you all. I thought that both Daniel and Matthew might not have wanted to go to their Grandad’s funeral.
Both Richard and Jennie were still at school when Alun’s Dad died, like you we gave them the choice of going to the funeral or not. They both chose not to go.

Sylvia, hope your physio went well today, and that you will soon feel the benefit of going there. Have you recovered from the shock of the cost of OH’s dental treatment yet? I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read how much you have to pay. I thought that the cost of dental treatment here in the UK was bad enough, but since knowing how much you all have to pay there, I won’t ever complain again. Hugs and kisses to baby MJ!

Liz, I know how you feel about your son looking for another job. I’m afraid our grown up children just don’t realise how much we worry about them. After watching the news earlier on this evening, Alun said that he can’t see Richard getting a job for a good while—I just hope that he’s wrong. I think Richard wishes that he had found a job when he finished doing his A levels, and not gone to University. After he got his degree, he found that employers wanted someone with at least two years work experience
and it looks as though it’s still the same with a lot of Companies. It’s so much more difficult to get a job now, than when we were in our twenties. Anyway, I hope that your son will find a new job very soon. It’s good to hear that your OH is chirpy and happier since cycling to work each day. It's obviously doing him good, even though he's working longer hours.

Mo, hope all is well with both you and Roly today. How’s the weather been there today? It was cloudy here to start with, but brightened up later on this afternoon. We weren’t very impressed with the Estate Agent that came today—he didn’t seem all that interested in the house at all, he didn’t ask any questions about the house and he didn’t even measure any of the rooms. Alun and I are wondering if he ever manages to sell any houses as he just wasn’t ‘client friendly’ at all. In fact I’m thinking, how did he
becomean Estate Agent in the first place. We were hoping that he would have told us today, how much the house is worth and also how much the fees will be, but apparently he had to work it all out, so will post it later on today. The Estate Agent that came yesterday was much better at her job.
Alun and I are going to view a bungalow on Saturday morning-- it’s just a couple of roads down from where Jennie and Michael live.
Sorry to ask, but have you had any news about your granddaughter and nephew, lately?

Ann, hope you and T are both okay.

Julia, hope all is well with you, and that we’ll hear from you soon.

Marie, how are things with you and your family. I hope all is well with you all.

Huia, have you heard if your son is coming to you on Sunday It would be lovely to have him with you for such a special day.

Jean and J, I hope you are enjoying your holiday, and that the weather is kind to you.

Marilyn, I also hope that both you and OH are well, and having a lovely holiday.

Speak to you soon.

Sylvia the Price of dental care in OZ is horrendous also. the health care I am with has their own Dentists and Optomtrists so the Prices are more reasonable, before I Joined this group I spent an awful lot of money on my teeth. How did your Physio go? are you very sore the next day? I havent been able to see any of the Parilympics as the ABC only has it on very early in the morning and then its only a half hour I am very dissapointed with the ABC.

Marie, I did google organ donation late last year and found that kidneys and liver (I think) are acceptable at any age if they are still healthy. Also skin. Corneas if healthy. I cant be absolutely sure I have remembered all those things correctly, but I have the info somewhere. I even printed it off for the social worker who was visiting for a while to make sure I was coping. She said some clients had asked her about organ donation and she didnt know the answer, so now she has it, thanks to my googling.

Just a quickie as nearly time for bed.

Huia, glad the social worker calls on you sometimes, and great that you could help her re the organ donating. I seem to think my late Mum had her corneas given to someone - can't remember but she was 79 when she died so it was good if they could use them.

I have mentioned organ donation to my son, for me I mean, but he won't talk about it, doesn't like the idea at all. It was a few years ago, maybe I need to mention it again. I haven't put anything in my will about it or joined any lists etc. I did used to carry a card years ago when he was little but no idea where it is now. I suppose I should ask o.h.too while I am at it lol

Debbie, hope things went as well as funerals can, Sylvia, hope the bill at the dentist doesn't get any bigger, Mo take care with the moving job, don't pull anything or try to do too much. Sallie, good luck with the house viewing, I looked at dozens of houses when I last moved, and was about to have a survey done on one I was going to buy as a stopgap as I kept selling mine and couldn't find anything, when I spotted the one I have now advertised, saw it as the first viewer and snapped it up, altho it hasn't been a lucky house, it is in a better location than the stopgap one. Had to dash off to the Building Society saying stop the survey I have changed my mind lol
Have a good day everyone, sorry to those I have missed out

Morning All, just popping in to say "Thank You" to you all for your kind thoughts over the past week. The funeral went very well, really personal and a lovely tribute to Peters Dad. There were about 150 people there and the singing went well (that always helps). The sun shone gloriously all day and everyone was in good spirits. That's the way it should be when you know that the end of a life is the only option left.

Back to reality now. I had a lovely walk yesterday with my Thursday group. It was the last one of the term so we went out for lunch afterwards at a Restaurant overlooking the sea and Lighthouse (Ann, out at Corbiere, as I am sure you will know where I mean).

Drizzly today and fog has disrupted flying but hopefully it will get back to normal as Daniel is flying out to Liverpool at 2pm. He is staying in Oldham and running the English Schools Cross Country Championships at Heaton Park in Manchester tomorrow afternoon. He won't mind the wet weather when running - it all adds to the fun.

So, I'm off to get some work done before he gets home from school. I wish everyone a lovely weekend, and Huia, I will be thinking of you on Sunday.

Good afternoon ladies.
Debbie,It's good to hear that it went well on Wednesday. I hope now that things can back to some sort off normality.
Did Daniel get away safetly. I do hope he does well tommorrow.
When does your Thursday walking club resume it's walks again. Will it be after Easter.
Marie you are soo right about my grandaughter. Everything about her is secret squirrel. We moved her to her new house yesterday. This morning she sent a txt to Roly, "Grandad my new cooker had arrived, but it's got no cable. And can you bring a spanner over,to take the securing bolts off of the washing machine". When Roly went to the house, she has not got the correct socket on the wall for a cooker, the sink has got no outlet for the washing machine,a complete nightmare. He told her to get hold off the letting agent, and get them to sort it out,but no not her,she wants it all done yesterday, and is going to tackle the sink herself. But obviously, for safety reasons, she cannot do the cooker point.
When Roly got there, she had not started the unpacking, but had started painting the bathroom. She has always wanted to run before she can walk.
I hope Jaimen is feeling better now,and is over his tummy problems. Eating the birthday cake, would not have made a big dent in your diet,as with all the excercise that you do,you would have soon burn't off the calories.
Do you ever go to the Cheltenham races Ann. Is it very far away from where you live.
We have been very lucky today,no rain so far. I have got two lines off washing done and dried. Ironing next, yuk.
Sallie how did your therapy session go yesterday?.
Just think Jean and J will be back home tommorrow, from their holiday.
I hope that their weather has been as good to them,as it has been to us.
I wonder if Marilyn is still enjoying her holiday. Just as long as she has not run off with the ships captain, and left them adrift at sea.lol
