Huia Report 14 Nov 2010 20:37

Morning/evening all. We are a lazy bunch, no postings for the last 26 hours, if I have calculated it correctly.

We had a nice fine day yesterday (Sunday). I visited Phil. He had a magazine in his hand but wasnt turning any pages. One of the carers started doing a dance in front of one of the other residents, so I danced over to her and joined in. When I looked at Phil he was staring at me, or should that be glaring? He was probably thinking 'why is she making such a spectacle of herself'. When the carers started taking people to the dining room for lunch I left and went back to Papakura to do a little shopping. On the way home I went up to Cosseys Dam for a little walk.

This morning there is light misty rain. I bought a plant yesterday and today I had intended to dig up the small garden where I want to put it, add some compost, then put the plant in but I will have to see what the weather does. It might clear. Apparently we are supposed to have scorching weather this week.

Huia.

Sorry missed this Jean, yes I would like to see the cards please Jean. I have made about 150 cards and have finally stopped. I think I have enough now. Just have to afford the stamps!!!

I am convinced that flu jab has caused the coughs, several people have had the same. And they all have the swine flu added. swine flu gave people a cough. T is still coughing badly, that is 3 weeks now. We are still sleeping in separate rooms!!

Hi all

I had my flu shot last Tuesday, it also has the H1N1 added to it this year .................... but I haven't had any problems, at least not so far! OH had his shot on Nov 1, and no problems.

It's getting chillier here, and there is snow on the mountains

Take care everyone

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 14 Nov 2010 23:23

Two of my grandsons (aged 5 and 6) were here yesterday. They stayed overnight, with their Dad (my son) who went to work today.
I have been getting my garden "sorted" since they were here last.
They were surprised that Nan hasn't got any nettles any more. Instead I have got a lawn and a garden shed.

Unfortunately, I havn't got a football for them to play with anymore (they took the last one to their own home).
As they had come without coats (what was my son thinking?). We couldn't go out to the shops for another one.
I reckon that I will have to put one on my shopping list. Perhaps in the summer I'll get cricket bats and stumps etc.

They also spent some time on the computer,so I wasn't able to get a look in. Still it helped to keep them quiet.

I hope all you ladies with coughs are ok now.
I had my flu jab a week or so ago, with no ill effects.

Huia, you must be getting fit with all this walking that you are doing, keep it up.

Pleased to hear at least some of you have had flu shots with no problems. Our coughs may or may not be due to the flu jab who knows?

Mo, Hope you can sort out your family problems, we miss your ramblings on here!

Mo in Kent Report 15 Nov 2010 17:41

Good evening ladies, it's me, the nuisance.
Family problems are still ongoing, but I can only be there for back up,should my help be needed.

Huia, maybe Phil was using the Magazine as a fan,if he was feeling warm. Perhaps Phil was in on one of his vague days, and maybe he thought to himself, " Cor she's a bit of all right ".
I hope you got your plant put into the garden, especially if you are due a heat wave.

My goodness Ann, you will need to take out a second mortgage to post all those christmas cards.
Have you tried any cough mixtures for the coughs you are both suffering with. Perhaps Glycerine,Honey and Lemon may help.
Roly had his jabs done a couple of weeks ago,and has not suffered any side affects.
Now me, I am not entitled to have the flu jabs,so perhaps I am the lucky one after all. lol

Oh Tess, you know what they say, " Out of the mouths of babes and children". Youngsters could get you hung couldn't they. Trust them to notice the lack of stinging nettles.
When my youngest grandson come to visit, he love to kick his ball round the garden. The only problem is the neigbours are getting fed up of giving it back. No matter how many times you say to him, dont kick it so high, it still ends up going over the fence.

Sylvia, is your kitchen finished now. I have forgotten what was written over the page.

I am sorry, I have not got any exciting news to tell you, boring boring old me.
I will be back tommorrow, to let you know how we got on at darts tonight.
Jean, hold up on placing your bets, you could be onto a loser at the moment love.

Bye for now girls. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Hi all

grey and raining here ...... which matched my mood!!

Kitchen is not finished .......... the cabinet maker is finishing installing the countertops at the moment. We had another problem arise on Friday, re the countertops meeting in a corner ............... I got vey upset about it. Anyway, told daughter on Sunday, snet her some pics, she got on the problem, even consulting with her boss and a couple of other people over on her side of the country. Phoned us at 7am this morning with a possible solution ................. which worked like a charm. So problem solved!

The sink will be installed next Monday, then that is it until OH does the painting, which is after I've chosen the final colours!!

We went to Ikea on Saturday to get some things .......... managed to find 2 bar stools, and some drawer inserts to try, and a couple of other things. Waiting in line, I saw the UNICEF booth had been set up ........ we always try to buy Unicef cards, so I went over there while OH stayed in the line up

I bought 110 cards, it cost $170, most of them (about 60) will go overseas, about 30 or so into the US ................. so postage will add up to about another $150.

Add that to the $350+ Ikea bill, the $700 for new winter tires, and the $700 I spent on Friday on my new glasses, and ..................

I think I'm going to have to send OH back out to work!!!

Mind you, we also reinforced ourselves of the fact the we NEVER go shopping at Ikea on Saturdays, especially around noon!! We like to go early in the week, mid-morning ........... but we couldn't see any free time coming up this week!

Take care everyone

I'd almost finished writing a message to you all, and lost the lot. I haven't got time now to writeit all again, so I'm just saying a quick hello to everyone.
Mo, I hope your team won last night. Also hope that your family problems are getting sorted.

Thinking of Sylvia, Jean, Tess, Ann, Huia, Joyce and Marie, and hoping you are all well.

Speak to you all tomorrow.

Hello dear friends.
Well for those who are interested, we won at darts last night. 4-2and 2-1.
Don't tell our Jean,as I told her not to waste her pension on backing us,and she would have been quids in. oh dear me thinks I will be in for a rollicking.

Poor Sylvia's had more problems with the kitchen I see. Thank goodness your daughter was able to give you an alternate solution Sylvia.
Get the whip out Sylvia, and get the OH back out to work. If he keeps spending all your savings like this he has to replace the money. LOL
It's so easy to go to Ikea and spend a fortune without realising it. We think to ourselves oooh thats a bargain, but when we get to the checkout,we have spnt twice as much as we intended to.
The trouble with christmas cards these days, is not so much the price of the cards, but the postage is so expensive.
Now if we were clever like, Jean, Sallie, Ann and probably Huia,we would make our own cards.

I hope that you are all well. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Hi Jean,

I have done some parchment, on a few birthday cards, and hoping to do some on a couple of Christmas cards, but at the moment can't make up my mind on what I want to do. I just need a good shaking, I think! lolol!!!

Jean, I find that doing parchment is very soothing, and love doing it. Even though you haven't done any for a long time, I'm sure you'll do it alright---no problem!

Yes, thank you Jean all is well with everyone here, too.

Anyway, I'm going to make a cuppa now, surprise! surprise! You all know I can't go too long without a nice cup of tea.lolol!!

Speak to you all tomorrow.

I went to the Doc this morning for my med cert. Eyes were fine, but she wrote on the form 'doesnt like getting out of car to open garage door when it is raining'. Well, she said she wrote it, but it must be in invisible ink. Now I just have to present all the forms and my money to the driving licence authorities, and I think I have to have my photo taken again. I hope this time they dont squash my head. The current photo doesnt look right.

I visited Phil, then came back to Papakura to do some shopping, got home about 4.30. Turned on the computer and tried to connect to the internet but computer said there was no dial tone (cant get broadband here). My phone was dead. I did other things and after dinner as the phone was still out I drove down the road and up another side road to a place where I could use my cell phone. Phoned a neighbour and he said his phone had been out at 4pm but had come back again. Otherwise I wouldnt be on here, but would be tearing my hair out! Actually I had decided if it was still out tonight I could always scan more negs as that doesnt require the internet.

Must get off now and ring my son. I havent spoken to him for a while.

Huia.

Sallie Report 17 Nov 2010 20:50

Hi All,

Huia, hope you don't get any more trouble with your phone and internet. It's a shame that you can't get broadband, though having said that we sometimes have trouble with that.

Hope you managed to get through to your son, and hope that all is well with both him and his wife.

Jean, have you started to do any parchment cards yet? I bet there'll be no stopping you once you've started! lol!

Joyce, if you're looking in, I hope you are feeling better. Have you felt like making any cards lately? I don't seem to be able to get back into making them, since I finished all the cards for my brother's church. I've only managed to make a few since then.

Mo, how are things with you and your family? I hope that the problems are now being sorted out.

We've been to do our usual weekly shop, but decided that we would try the new A--a's which is nearer to where we live--both Janet and I prefer the one we always go to, so we will be back there next week.

Ann, hope you and T are feeling better now. My sister-in-law doesn't have the flu jab, but she's had some kind of flu virus, whatever it was, it made feel really poorly and she had to spend three days in bed. She's also been left with a nasty cough.

I don't know exactly what I do to lose what I'm writing, but I do know that I'm good at doing it.lolol!!!
Alun has told me no end of times to copy and paste, so that I won't lose what I'm writing, but I can't seem get that right, so of course, I just carry on in my own sweet way.lol! Having said that though, I must really try and do it the way that Alun's shown me.

Sylvia, hope your kitchen is now finished. It was good that your daughter was able to give you advice, so that at least one problem was solved for you and OH.

I know the feeling though, we had our kitchen done six years ago, even though we had a very good local company in to do it, they still made a couple of mistakes--but soon put them right. It's only human to make some mistakes.lol!

Hope all is well with your daughter and family. I bet you are all looking forward to MJ's first Christmas--there'll be some excitement on Christmas morning at their house. Sending hugs and kisses to MJ! xxxxxx

Tess, hope you've recovered after having your grandchildren stop with you.

Although Alun and I don't have any grandchildren, we sometimes have Jennie's friend's little girl Chloe, stop the night with us. She's staying Friday night, so that on Saturday she can finish make her Christmas cards. She was eight last month, and I must say that she makes quite a good job of them.

I must say that although we love to have her stay, I'm shattered after she's gone home. Oh well, old age doesn't come by itself!lolol!!

Liz, if you're looking in, I hope you are feeling a bit better. Have you seen the baby yet? Hope OH is better than he's been, and that he's taking care of his diabetis.

Have you bought any Christmas presents yet? I've bought a couple, so will have to get a move on to get the rest. It's knowing what to buy for different people is the problem.

Marie, we haven't heard from you for a while, I hope all is alright with you and your family. I know you were going to visit your daughter but I can't remember how long you were going to stay with her.

I'll speak to you all again tomorrow. Take care everyone!

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxxx

Hello girls.
Huia, I know what you mean by them squashing the photo's on things like driving licences. My bus pass photo makes me look like a monk, it has made a hole in the top of my hair ,where it has been so squashed to fit the documentation.
Everyone I have shown it to laugh their heads of at it. But at least you can see my ugly mug on it properly.

Sallie like you we have tried other stores, for our main shopping, but always end up back at Tes*'o's. It's not a very big store, and I generally know where everything is. Well I do until they move it all around, and then I get thrown into confusion.
I have spent most of my day, writing christmas cards out. Cor talk about writers cramp, and yet I am still not finished.
I dread to find out how much it's going to cost to send them off.
I have three for NZ and three for OZ,one for France and one for Holland, the rest are for this country.

Marie if you are looking in,would you mind sending me your address so that I can send your card to you. If you would rather not,I would fully understand.
I wonder if you are still sunning yourself on the beach, ogling all those tanned bodies.LOL

Jean honey, I hope you and J are well, and behaving yourself.

Ann are you and T any better now love. Did you get yourselves some cough medicine, to ease the cough.

Well girls I will say goodnight godbless. Love to all our friends who I may not have mentioned, I am thinking of you all. Love Mo xxx
