Huia, have you asked for help finding your lost Gt grandfather on here? Sometimes an extra pair of eyes is useful.

Sylvia Welcome back, I am pleased you enjoyed your trip. How worrying for the couple from Rockhampton, they must have been really concerned as to what they were going to find when they got home. It looks horrendous on TV,

Caz, I love looking through the cards to find bits to recycle. And we are lucky, when I have cut out all the bits I want I can just put the remeainder into our recycling as our council takes greetings cards.

Mo, it is usually T who suggests going into Weatherspoons for lunch.

We cartainly are lucky Ann, I get carrier bags full and then when there has been a birthday I get those as well, the ladies know and don't mind as they get a thank you card off me. I love looking through and sometimes can see at a glance what needs to go with a picture to make a new card, lovely.
Nice to see you back Sylvia, the train trip sounds wonderful I would love to go on a trip like that.
I am getting concerned for Marie, she hasn't been on for a while, has anyone seen anything from her.
I am pleased to be writing that my leg is a lot easier this morning, thanks to all who showed concern, it was getting scary and I thought I might have to have a word with doctor but the new year is suddenly looking brighter.

Now take it easy Caz, don't go doing too much because you feel better. I am pleased that the pain has eased, maybe putting your feet up high did do the trick. I have diuretic tablets to take with my BP tablets but I also find eating grapes helps.

Sylvia, great to see you back, I'm pleased that you had a lovely Christmas.
It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that have a couple of spats with the family.

The train journey sounds wonderful, with good food and some entertainment for New Years Eve.

Marie lives in Bathurst, NSW so she's well away from the floods, but like the couple on the train, Marie's brother and his family live in Rockhampton.
The last we heard was that her brother and his wife had moved to their son's house which is on higher ground, as their house was near the river.

As we haven't heard anything from Marie for a while, we are all concerned and wondering if things are all okay with her family.

Huia, if we don't hear from you for a while, let's hope that you will be busy with FMP and that the rats haven't had you.lolol!!

As Ann have suggested, it might be an idea to ask for help on here in trying to find your Grt grandfather. It's marvellous what some of them can find.

Caz, hope the pain in your leg and hip is a bit easier today. It would be nice if you could start on you card making again.

Have you heard from Joyce over the last day or two? I hope that she is feeling a bit better too, so that she can also get on with her card mking too.

Jean, I hope that your vertigo is a bit better today. I'm wondering if you have received the New Year card I sent you yet.

Mo, hope things are okay with you and Roly today.

We are off shopping when Alun gets home about 4 o- clock, a job I hate, especially with it raining today---still, I suppose it's better than snow.

Ann, I'm sure that I've seen posts by you, saying that you had a kindle. I know by what you've said it has something to do with books, but not quite sure what. So, would you be kind and tell me exactly what it's for, please.

Julia, if you're looking in, I'm looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Marie, hope to hear from you soon, and hoping that your brother and his family are all okay.

Joyce, sending you love and special thoughts, and that it won't be too long before you are back on this thread.

Tess, also hope that you are starting to feel better, and that we'll see you back on here soon. Take care.

It's a long time since we've heard from Liz, I hope that she's alright.

Well ladies, I'm going to have a bit of lunch now, so I'll look in later on today.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Just missed your post Caz. I'm so pleased to hear that your leg is feeling a lot better today and that you are able yo sit at your computer. Hoping and praying that it will continue that way. Take care and don't overdo things though. Happy card making!

I'm not doing any card making Sallie I am sitting with my leg up when not on here, I don't want that again. As Ann says though I have been put on water tablets and they seem to help, hip still a bit tender from my fall on Boxing night but it's easing. I had a visit this morning by my step daughter so didn't do anything but it was nice to sit and chat, I have just put the stock from cooking the gammon joint at Christmas with a bit of the ham I put in freezer into the slow cooker, will add musy peas and look forward to lovely warming pea and ham soup.
I spoke to Joyce this morning and she was up all night with cramp, I wish the doctor could do something about it but he says he can't. She also has a terrible headache which is giving her vertigo but she plods on making her cards, she has quite a few to make now. I might do some tomorrow, I'm thinking I might do some Christmas ones while I still have the peeloffs and such out, and the pictures off the cards I have so far off the warden.

Hello my lovelies.
Oh Caz I can't tell you how pleased I am, that your leg and hip feel better today.
Now don't go crazy and overdo things. Lets hope and pray that the year continues as it has started, on a good footing.

Huia if we don't hear from you for a couple of days, we will send out the search parties, just in case we need to get the rat catcher involved, to release you from the rats clutches. lol
Enjoy your searching love.

Sylvia, it's lovely to have you back with us.
Your journey home sounds like it was great fun.
I should imagine the the atmosphere on New Years Eve was electric.
All different nationalities, enjoying the thrill of seeing the New Year in together.
What a shame there were differences of opinion that happened over the holiday period, but hey, thats life.
I dare say you noticed a big change in MJ, but enjoyed lots of cuddles from him.

Hi there Ann, I haven't forgotten you love. Have you and T got anything exciting planned for your day. Apart from your crafting I mean.
I read the thread for Daff daily, and can't believe how much that poor girl has gone through. I just hope and pray that when she gets home that things fall back into place for her.
It must be so hard on her OH and the family, having to see her struggle back to health. That is one strong man she has got there, bless her.

Hi Sallie hun, don't buy the shop up when you go out later on.
Have you made your appointment to see the therapist yet love.
I hope that both you and Julia enjoy your meeting tomorrow. Let us know how it goes. And no more than one chocolate eclair with your coffee.lol

Still no news from Marie, this is becoming a real worry now. I think i will sent her an e.mail to check that she and her family are o.k.

Joyce if you are looking in ((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))

Going to do a Sallie now, and get a cup of tea. Bye for now. Mo xxx

Hello again, just resting after lunch before helping T get the decoration boxes up in the loft. Silly man played golf all morning in the rain but says he had so many layers on he didn't get too wet. Bet he wouldn't walk round the shops in the rain!!!

Sallie a Kindle is an e book reader. The Kindle is the Amazon one, you buy and download your books from Amazon (normally about the same price as paperbacks). It can store hundreds of books and is with its case about half an inch thick. A good screen, print you can have on several sizes, easy to read.

I wonder why we haven't heard from marie, maybe she has a cold or something.

Liz was on the depressions thread earlier I think. She has not been well if I read it correctly.

Sallie Report 5 Jan 2011 13:47

Hi Caz, yes I thought I might start making some Christmas ready for next year---it makes sense while we still have the cards and stash out.

I like the sound of pea and ham soup, although I never make it now because I'm the only one that likes it. My mother and my nan always made it in the winter, it was delicious.

I wish that Joyce's doctor could do something for her, surely there is something that can be done. I know my uncle suffered from cramp quite a bit, but I'm sure he didn't suffer as much as Joyce is suffering. I know that he took tablets off the doctor for it, but I don't know what they were called.

It was nice that your step daughter called to see you this morning, as you say it was nice to have a chat and a bit of company.

Well, I'd better go and start preparing our meal for tonight, otherwise there will be no dinner.lolol!!

Speak soon.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Hi there. My best wishes to Caz and Joyce and anybody else who is not well.

Ann, I think I might have asked for help with my gt gt grandfather ages ago, but no luck. I will have to put my thinking cap on some time and work out a new line of attack on him. I know his d.o.b. from an old birthday book, and his fathers name from his m cert, if it is to be believed. But his p.o.b. eludes me, and I might have to trawl through parish records for hundreds of miles around his last known place of abode. I cant even find him on the 1841 census, although his wife is there with her 'occupation' being wife of Thomas Taylor. She was 6 months pregnant with their only child, my gt grandmother, at the time.

Better finish my breakfast, I need to do a bit of shopping this morning.

Huia.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 5 Jan 2011 21:04

could he have been away in the army or Navy Huia in the 1841?

Huia

Huia Report 6 Jan 2011 00:02

I very much doubt it, Ann, he was a weaver living in Wotton-under Edge. He died of pthisisi pulmonalis in 1847, so I suspect he might have been in hospital.

Family history says he was a good violinist and played for the King, but that would have been before Victoria became Queen.

I think I have possibly found his brother also living in WuE in 1841 and 1851. He was apparently b in Bradford on Avon. That is something that I will try to follow up in Parish records sometime.

Huia.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 6 Jan 2011 09:03

Huia, Wotton Under Edge is about 8 miles from me, a small village on the edge of the Cotswolds. If you give me his details I'll see if I can find him for you in 1841.

Have you contacted the relevant Records Office for advice? I will have to check if it comes under Bristol or Gloucester, that part of the cotswolds is divided as to which office they come under.

Good afternoon girls.

I hope the meeting between Sallie and Julia goes well this afternoon.
And I am hoping it's not raining as hard there,as it is here. But I know that the weather will not spoil their meeting each other.

I sent an E.Mail to Marie yesterday to see if she is o.k, and so far there is no news from her. So heres hoping that no news is good news.

I phoned my cousin in OZ, and she said that the floods are about 50k away from them.
They have had very heavy rain where they live, that has flooded the roads into the town, but the houses are safe enough in their region of Queensland.

I hope that everyone is well, and I will pop back later to speak to you all.
Love and best wishes Mo xxx

Well Julia and I met as planned, she's a very nice lady, and of course we had a nice long chat. So we both decided that we will meet again sometime.

Just thought I'd let you know before I start to make our dinner. I'll be back on later.

Agh, I see Sallie has beat me too it. Lovely lady.
Yes, we had a lovely couple of hours. I met Sallie's lovely daughter Jenni, and her other half Michael, who stayed and had their lunch. It seems that, where they live, is only a couple of fields over my back garden, but we are in separate towns.LOL
We had a lenghty nitter natter, and it was nice to have human company, not just cyber people.
We have said, we will do it again. The garden centre is half way between the two towns we live in.
