Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 4 Aug 2011 21:04

Hello there Huia.
What the hells the matter with the home that Phil is in, not giving him a decent bowl and spoon for his food.
There has been a big stink caused in some the nursing homes, and hospitals over here, because the elderly are being ignored at meal times, and not helped to eat their food.
A lot of the elderly peoples families have complained about how imaciated, their kin are looking.
All this stems from there not being enough staff to cope.
What the powers that be fail to realise , is that they will also be elderly one day, and how will they like to be treated as some people are now. It's absolutely disgusting.
Stop let me off my soap box now.

I hope you manage to get rid off the slimy growth off the veranda. Didn't you have the same problem last year with the same thing, I seem to remember you telling us about it back then.
Don't you go overdoing it love.
Take care, love Mo xxx

Huia Report 4 Aug 2011 21:14

Well, Mo, the home was trying to get some better plates, like the ones for infants, with high sides, but they need to be bigger. Unfortunately they dont seem to be available any more. They did have some in the past, but they are no longer fit to use. I dont know if the staff help him when I am not there. Possibly they do as they help to feed other residents, but because I was there it was left to me to do. I did comment to one helper who was passing that the plate was too flat. Perhaps I will talk to the woman in charge next time I go.

Hi girls, Jean it's lovely to see you on here again, I had a look at your cards on Anns blog and they are lovely as usual. I will have to start on mine soon as I am so slow doing them these days.
How are you all coping with this weather? It has been horrendous up here on the top floor, over 80 every day in our flat, and I can't go out to escape it, thank goodness for our portable air conditioner. At least it has been a bit cooler today but we need a really good downpour, we had rain yesterday but it didn't last long or rain hard enough.
Huia have you tried wetting your patio and sprinkling salt on it, I used to do that when our patio got moss and slime on it, it killed it off and just brushed away.
I wonder where Marie has got to, hello to Mo and Sylvia and anyone else looking in, Sallie been looking at your cards as well and they are lovely, such good ideas.

Love Caz xx

Mo in Kent Report 5 Aug 2011 19:54

Hello there girls.
It's so good to hear from you Jean and Caz.

Jean I am getting used to be a loser at darts, but when you are faced by a great big fella, who makes you look like a doormat he has just walked over, it does cheese you off, just a tad. lol
It's good to hear that Jef is getting back to his good self again, even be it slowly, he has been through such an ordeal, and he is a big star in my eyes.
Thank the good lord that you are now feeling a little better now. Don't let the b*gger beat you, keep doing the excercises, and keep that cheeky grin on your face for me. mwah <3

Poor you Caz, having to endure the high temperartures in your flat. The air conditioner is a real bonus for you both.
Like you, we had rain yesterday, but it made no difference to the temperature in the house. We couldn't have the doors or windows open for obvious reasons. Still the plants loved it, but so did the weeds and they have grown like no-bodies business.

Huia, I think I would be tempted to have a word with the home,re the plates situation.
Do you get any donated to the hospice shop. If you did, would they then donate them to the home do you think.? It would be so nice if they would.

Has anyone got anything nice planned for the weekend. We may be going down to see baby Lilly, it depends on what her mum and dad have got planned as well.
Nothing more exciting than that i'm afraid.
Well girls take care of yourselves, love to you all. Mo xxx

Huia Report 5 Aug 2011 22:27

Good evening girls.

Caz, our verandah has a special finish: fibreglass which is then painted. I am not sure what salt would do to it. I might try a small corner of it. I do have a can of that wet-and-forget stuff but it is rather expensive. One consolation, I lost 800gms weight yesterday, scrubbing it. Only half done so far.

Jean, I will hunt out some pics to put on when I have finished the verandah!

Mo, it is plastic (probably melamine) plates they use as some of the residents drop them on the floor. I have just been wondering if I could get a large bowl for him to use. I will look around the shops some time. Perhaps one of the stainless steel dishes for dogs/cats!

Must finish looking at the boards then get scrubbing. I am an old scrubber!

Huia.

Hello to all my dear friends,
I do miss you and the chatter. I am pleased to see you are all well and so nice to hear that Jeff is doing so well, and that you Jean are in command of your vertigo.
I would love to see the blog with all the cards and pictures but I haven't been able to access the site and now I cant remember the address.
Mo I think I would feel a bit cranky too if I thought he was giving me the P---s.
Just get your wine out and have a large glass you will feel better.

I now have 4 blogspots! The one many of you have visited, one on building Hunua Dams, one on building our house, and now one of old NZ postcards. If anybody wants to see them just visit the usual site and then click on my profile. It names the 4 sites and you can click on each one in turn. Or I hope you can. That is what I do with Ann's blogs.

Huia off to bed now.

I was looking this morning Huia, your house is in a beautiful position, and quite large by the looks of it. The photos of the dam are interesting.

Sorry I haven't been on for a while. Just got tied up doing other things.

have had some (unwanted) visitors (mice) so been trying to tidy up everywhere, put poisen down etc.

Have now bought a potted mint plant, as am told that mice don't like the smell.
haven't seen any since last Saturday. so hope that they have moved on.
But wiil need to move furniture, fridge, freezer, cooker etc, to make sure that there is nothing nasty under them.

I was going to have my two youngest grandsons staying with me from today, for a week (or so) but son has now booked two weeks off work and is taking them camping in Cornwall instead.

I am hoping that the weather is favourable and that they cope (at worst) or enjoy themselves (at best).

They haven't been "proper camping" before, so this will be quite an adventure for them.

I have put on a stone (14lbs) in recent weeks. Think it is something to do with not feeling well enough to be active. I'm just not burning off enough calories.

The picture for August on my calendar is a lovely counrty scene fron Near Bratton, Wiltshire.

Has anyone been there?

Off to have a refreshing cup of tea,

Tess

This thread is moving down all the time, where is everyone?. Hi to Huia and everyone else, it has cooled down a lot here at last, it has been so uncomfortable lately with the heat. It rained heavy this afternoon but we need it I suppose. Have you finished your patio Huia, and has it come up nice, I hope that spray you have keeps the moss and slime down now.
I'm a bit fed up just at the moment, I had a bad fall this morning and hurt both knees and my back so I am going to have a bit of supper and go to bed.
Hope everyone is keeping ok.

Love Caz xx

Hi Caz,

Yes you are right about this thread, it will be a shame if we all abandon it.

Sorry I haven't been on a few days, because as some of you know I've had a few problems with Richard and Christie and I've been too upset to come on here.

Caz, to you, Betty, Jude and Liz, I'm sorry I haven't replied to your PM's yet, but will do so in the next day or two. Thank you all for 'listening' and being there for me when I needed it.

Sylvia, how are things with you? I hope the results of your biopsy will be all clear.

Lovely to hear from you Marie, and to know that all is going well with your organisation of your family reunion.

I hope that all our friends on here are all okay.

I'll speak to you all soon.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

SylviaInCanada Report 7 Aug 2011 20:52

Hi all
xx

it's quiet all over .............. I think people must be away or doing other things.

We're having some lovely weather here, FINALLY!

The sun is shining, even though we have had some cloudy mornings due to "marine cloud" that burns off by lunchtime. The temperature is in the mid-20s ........ a little hot for me, but we have fans in most rooms. I have one blowing a lovely cool breeze over me right now!

I go to the doctors on Wednesday, and hope to get the result of the biopsy. But, as I think I said earlier, I'm expecting to be sent to a surgeon for another biopsy. The radiologist said that this is what she thought she would be doing based on the first cursory exam of the tissue.

She said that it looked as though it would still be seen as benign ....... but she wasn't 100% sure. So there is still that 1-2% possibility

I might still be going through this in the autumn!

We're planning on going to the cabin next Sunday, and will spend about 10 days or so up there.

take care everyone

Hello all. I think we often get this in the summer months, people are busy in their gardens or out enjoying the summer weather. Come the autumn we will all be more regular on here.

Sorry to hear you had another fall Caz, hope that you feel better tomorrow.

Thinking of you Sallie and hope that your family problems can be resolved.

marie I will PM you the blog address again. There is no reason that you should not be able to get on it.

Mo, I thought you played Ladies darts, but you mention a man treating you like a doormat!! :-S

Jean hope you can continue to keep the vertigo under control, at least during the day, but hope you can conquor it at night too.

Huia, can you not buy a large pasta bowl for Phil to use?

Tess, I hope you have finally got rid of your little visitors.

Mo in Kent Report 7 Aug 2011 21:27

Hello my lovelies, it's good to hear from you all again.
It's amazing how this thread goes at times, sometimes we all seem to come on here on the same day, and at other times it may be days before we speak to each other. But at the end of it, we are still here for each other, and in this day and age that is a wonderful thing. And I thank you all for your friendship on here.

Tess, I feel sure your grandsons will enjoy themsleves, regardless of the weather, they are away with their dad, and that is the most important thing to children, the bonding time.
They may have a few burnt offerings as meals dished up to them, but there must be a chippy somewhere near them, to fill them up a bit.
You will soon burn those extra pounds off, when you are feeling better love, so don't worry to much about it.

Huia, I hope you had an enjoyable time with your sister, and that Phil was responsive to you when you saw him.

Oh Caz, not again love. I hope you are not black and blue from your fall.
Rather than you having a wheel chair, I think we shall have to get you a skate board, it's closer to the ground, and not so far for you to fall. No walking sticks, just get your bum down onto the skateboard, and scoot around that way, it's got to be a safer option for you.
Seriuosly though, please take care of yourself for us. mwah.

Sallie, I hope that things soon get sorted out for you. Stay strong love, we are all here for you, should you want to chat things over. <3
Has Alun been to his train club lately? and are you still doing your cards?
Nosy old bat aint I.

Sylvia, I hope the weather holds out for when you go up to the cabin next Sunday. Will you take the fans with you, if the heat continues like it is.
My fingers, toes, arms, legs and eyes will all be crossed for you on Wednesday love.
It would be soooo nice if it was sorted out sooner than the autumn. It's such a B*g*er to have hanging over your head for that amount of time.

Hi Marie. I was beggining to think we had lost you to that internet beast that takes away our connections. ie G.R messing about again. They never seem to get things right do they, and they are supposed to be the experts.lol
I bet there are a lot off people on here who could sort things out a damn sight quicker than they can themselves.
How the singing group going now. Has the gentleman stayed with you, or did he give up after a few times of coming to you.
I hope that the family are all well now.

Cooeee Ann, hows you and T doing these days. I hope you are both well.

Hugs((((((((((((((For Jean and Jeff))))))))))))))))))

Hugs((((((((((((((For Joyce))))))))))

Well my friends, I must go now. Lovely to hear from you all. Take care one and all. Love Mo xxx

Ooops Ann posted while I was typing. Ann I do play for a ladies darts team, but the other evening, I played for Roly's team as they were a player short.
Also the summer league that we play in at the moment, has mixed teams, so we can be up against a man at any time.During the winter, it's only women we play against.
But the man I played the other night, for roly's team,( an all male team under normal cicumstances) expected to be playing another man, and not me, so he treated me with disdain, and felt proud that he had walked all over me, and treated me like a doormat. Nasty nasty man.
