Huia Report 1 Jan 2012 00:33

Well, 2012 has started off well for me. My gt grandson was born at 11.55 a.m. today (92 mins ago, just before lunch), and weighed 6 lb 14 oz. I thought they weighed them in metric these days? He was b by caesarean, probably as she had been in labour for over 24 hours.

Huia.

Glad you had a good christmas Sylvia and thank you for those thoughts, it is a tense time for us. We had a quiet New Year, just the two of us, the same as Christmas but it was very relaxed and pleasant despite the indifferent TV. We did enjoy the London Fireworks though, quite spectacular. (Goodness knows how much they cost!).

Glad you had a good new year Sally, congratulations Gt Grandma Huia, and a happy new year Jean, hope it is a more healthy one for both of you. :-)

SylviaInCanada Report 1 Jan 2012 22:49

Hi everyone

Ann ..... I know it is a tense time. <3 <3 It was for us, even though we knew that it was about 99% certain that the mastectomy had solved the problem, and there would be no need for further treatment. There's always that "what if ...."

We had a very quiet evening. OH cooked a chicken, while I made the sage and onion stuffing, and he also made casseroled sweet potatoes, and an asparagus/ broccoli mix. We ate about 7 pm, then did our own thing until it was time to watch the tv.

problem was ............. there didn't seem to be anything televised from Vancouver ! :-(

We could watch Times Square, New York (3 hours earlier than us) ....... but then we found one of the local stations in Seattle, just south of us, had a major show on. Lots of fireworks, entertainment, etc.

We then slept in until 10:15 am this morning, which would be about 6:15 pm your time

We never sleep that late!!

I admit that I didn't go to bed until about 2:45 am (got involved in a tricky genealogical question on GR), but we had not drunk a lot. I had nothing 'cos alcohol doesn't like me, and OH had 2 glasses of wine.

It is quite a pleasant day here ......... sunny and cloudy, but chilly.

Huia ................. meant to say, that is what happened to me. I was in labour for 24 hours and then had a caesarean. Hope all is going well with the baby and the new parents.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone.
Congratulations on your new ggrandchild Huia.
Was very saddened this evening when we heard that young adult next door to us had hung himself this morning. He did attempt . it about 6 months ago but 16 year old brother found him and got help.. Have heard mother when in arguments with him in past few weeks screaming that he should have done a proper job on himself the first time. Such a waste of a young life. R.I.P.
Take care.
Betty.

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 2 Jan 2012 12:15

Hellooooo girls, I bet you thought I had done a dissappearing act, but oh no, like the proverbial bad penny, I am bad.lol ;-)

Oh Betty, how sad that someone so young, can feel the need to end their life. May you rest in peace now young man.
I bet his mum is now regretting her harsh words.

Well girls thank goodness 2011 is now over, and heres hoping that 2012 is a much healthier time for us all.
Last year bought sadness to the majority of us, in one way or another.

Thank you all for your friendship over the last year, and heres to many more good times.

This afternoon we are doing the hospital rounds, visiting our grandaughters boyfriend, who had to have a colostomy bag fitted earlier last year, he had the reversal operation done on the 29th 0f December, and is now on the road to recovery. Bless him he is only 21, and has gone through so much.

We will also see our friend Barbara, who had to have her leg amputated below the knee about six weeks ago. She is now trying to adapt to her new atificial leg, but cannot go home, until such time as her flat has been adapted to fit her needs.

I must go and do us some lunch now, so I will speak to you all tomorrow.
Love and hugs to all. Mo xxx

How very sad Betty, we are seeing more and more of this aren't we. He was obviously very determined so I hope he now rests in Peace. His brother tried.

Mo I hope you find both your granddaughter's boyfriend and your friend in good spirits. I wish them both well.

Yes 2011 was not the best year for us, I hope 2012 will be better. We are waiting for Thursday now (I got it wrong originally, thought it was the 3rd) to hear the results of our daughter's tests so all fingers and toes crossed please. :-)

Hello girls,

Nice to see you chatting on here, it's been so very quiiet on here for a good while.

Betty, I'm sorry to hear the news of the young man next door to you. As Mo has said I wonder if his mother now regrets her harsh words to him. Hope now that he is at peace, bless him.
A Happy New Year to you and yor family too, hope it will be a better year for you.

Ann, I thought you said that it was tomorrow that your daughter was going to get her results. Sending her and all of you positive thoughts for Thursday, like Caz, I will be keeping all my fingers and all my toes
crossed for a good result.

Mo, yes it would be nice if 2012 will be kind to us all, as you say I don't think any of us had a wonderful 2011 in one way or another.

I hope that your granddaughter's boyfriend is making a very good recovery and that from now on will have no more problems. As you say at 21 he is young to have had to suffer the indignities of having a bag, bless him......it is something that isn't nice at any age but so much worse when young.
Also hope your friend is making a good recovery and able to adapt to wearing her artificial leg.
Hope that both of them were in good spirits and positive looking.

Caz, how are things with you? I hope that you are feeling a bit better now.

Huia, hope the baby and his mum are doing OK. Have you seen your new gt.grandson yet and have they chosen a name yet ?

Sylvia, hope is well with you and OH, and that you had a good New Years Eve.

Jean, if you are looking in, hope you and your family are all well.

Take care everyone.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Sallie, yes it was not until yesterday that we found out that we had the wrong day. I don't know how it happened but we both thought it was Tuesday 3rd not Thursday 5th. So two extra days to have to wait. Daughter is still suffering quite a lot of pain from where the lymph nodes were removed, she was warned that she would but that doesn't help. She is too sore to wear a bra so is doing the same that I did when I had my op to remove the rodent ulcer three years ago, she is wearing a camisole with a built in support.

Sallie

Sallie Report 2 Jan 2012 21:53

Hi Ann, I think that the worry makes the pain worse, but how do we all stop worrying when we are waiting for some medical results? It's not easy.

Sending her lots of extra hugs and positive thoughts.

Ann

Having just been through lymph node removal (albeit only one was removed) ................. please tell your daughter to be patient.

But also tell her to take the medication to help control the pain.

Also tell her to have some physiotherapy to help improve matters. Over here, we have specialized physios who practise what they call Breast Health. They really can do wonders with their massaging and stretching

I still cannot wear the wired bras that I prefer ......... which is really why I have not been to the boob shop! And that is because of swelling in my underarm area that has still not gone down, after just over 3 months.

Unfortunately, doctors and nurses do not always tell you the full story of what to expect!

Hello everybody.

Mother and son are home, only 3 days after he arrived by caesarian. I didnt think NZ threw them out so quickly. I will be taking the other gt grandmother down to Hamilton in 2 days to visit them, as she doesnt drive. Must remember to take my camera!

Gt granny in a rocking chair. (Well, swivelling, and it does rock a little).

thank you for that Sylvia. She is taking medication and has exercises to do but it is reassuring that she is not experiencing anything different to normal.
