Good evening Wattlers Public holiday here today for the show - didn't go though. Instead we went for a lovely walk with the bushwalking club and had a picnic lunch afterwards - most enjoyable as we had a tiny sprinkle of rain early this morning which cooled the air and made the gum trees smell wonderful. I've probably missed you Gwenda but hope you have a successful trip to Adelaide. Happy hunting!! And hope you work out how to operate the digital camera. Suzy Q - you will not know yourself with broadband - it is fantastic. So much quicker and more convenient. You will probably spend more time on the boards though!! Lara - msn is a real worry for us as our daughter spends a lot of time on there. It is how the kids communicate these days and I hate it. They are losing the skill to talk face to face. If it's not MSN it's text messages. So impersonal I think. We do keep a close watch on it but with all her peer group doing it it is a constant battle. Devly - good on you for doing so well with the diet. Give yourself a big pat on the back. You must be feeling like a new woman with the hair and all. Laurie ??????Coooooeeee!!!! Get out of bed and talk to us!!!! Lew - hope the packing is going to plan and that you haven't packed hubby in a body bag yet! Trifley - It's very sad the bitching that happens on the general boards. I can't understand how people can be so unkind to one another. For some people the boards are a very big part of their lives due to personal circumstances and I think they try to wield power over others by creating fights and nastiness. I'm glad we have our little peaceful haven in here - everyone is so nice and so supportive of each other. Thanks Tony for forwarding our lucky numbers. Tony - if we win my hubby will knock you over in the rush to buy a big telly!! We already have two perfectly adequate TV's but no - he wants an enormous one! Oh well - I'd be able to get a better look at Toby on Dancing with the Stars! He's my favourite! Although I fancy Noeline's partner Camillo a bit also! Hello to everyone else - waving to everyone I haven't mentioned Cheers Anna

Oops sorry Lara. Realised about the wrong spelling after I posted it. Didn't have time to correct. I'm in Sth Aust, bout 25km out of Adelaide. It's about 10.30pm here, just kicked hubby of so I could get on for a short while. I have broad band here, don't know what I did without it. We are on the fartherest point for the exchange, so have had a few problems with drop outs, but telstra changed some things and it's not so bad now. Still happens occasionally but it's rare. Had to get a new printer tonight. The one we had decided it had, had enough. Was cheaper to get a new one than try to get it fixed. Where on earth do these service centre's get their pricing from? Well must go. catch you all later. Peta :)

Anna my granddaughter is the same and will be ringing my daughter to mke sure no camera as Holly is 10 going on 18 and very intelligent but probably naive too in worldy things although talking to her the other night om msn and gave her a warning about if anyone tried to speak to her as she said a boy did while they were on the gold coast and she got the message nan ok Its cool I wouldn't ever go anywhere with any one as I said what did the boy say how old was he she said' well about 12 and he asked us my friend and I would we go to the games room with him', and I freaked and said 'where was your mother and she said 'well she was with us of course nan you don't think she would leave us alone do you ' lol so a case of nan being over cautious probably but that show on Oprah really made me so sad and scared for all the kids because they're are so vunerable. Peta that's ok mate just didn't want you getting all confused like the rest of us on here all of us have CRAFT, call me what you like just don't call me late for dinner lol. SA that's good, so we are still missing a girl who was from somewhere near Emerald in fnq if you are reading this please say hello so we know you are ok . Heather albury got that girl from the search engine you told us but she hasn't answered the message yet darn I'm very anxious to talk to her Do hope all our friends in WA are safe and not got anybody up at Carratha,Exmouth and Onslow love and best wishes to all up there and hope you are all safe and your homes are surviving Annabel how is Doug? Thinking of you both and especially with the Eagles winning tonight Laurie did you get on the champers on the way home and having big zzzzzzssss? Tony thanks for forwarding the nos to us again and all think positive ok we are going to win a small fortune aren't we and hire the QE2 or something similar to take us to the uk and with us few stop offs to shop and sightsee. Where would each of us like to stop of at? Me it would be Dubais for some gold jewellery, and Edmonton Canada to see that big shopping centre for about a week lol, Got to go to bed now folks so bye, waving madly ,see you all tomorrow love Lara

Good morning waffling wattlers . . . and hello Ozzi . . . . Thank you for all your messages, we had a great trip home, I think the jet lag was surpassed by the hangover. We spent Rays birthday in the air so the crews were serving us champers all the way - got the right royal treatment we did! My mailbox has been going hard at it downloading for ages this morning, and that is after I had gone thru and deleted a lot off ther server - Lots of it is Rays work though as he had his mail duplicated in mine with all the problems we were having. Everything happens for a reason, he didn't get to do as much work as he had planned, so he had to holiday more (and do family history). Last Friday travelling back to Kent from Kew Archives with Debs and her hubby Peter, Ray was heard to tell Peter 'Sad thing is, I am really starting to enjoy this research stuff' (Peter was our taxi - dropped us off and picked us up). Time to go get hubby off to work but I have been up for a couple of hours and caught up with a few pages of the thread - so will be back later. Considering we left here on the 1st March, thats the month gone - a twelth of my year - scarey thought isn't it ! It feels like it has gone quickly, but then it seems ages ago that we arrived in Frankfurt to the snow storm. Nice to be back cheers all luv Laurie

Well welcome back Julie. I was wondering what happened to you. You poor thing. Stay warm and get well soon. Perhaps a stint in the Naughty Corner will fix you! There's a mexican theme there at the moment and a bit of tequila might be just what the doctor ordered. The moving has started and there's boxes everywhere. It's just like Christmas! Even found the Christmas Tree! Hope all is well with everybody. I'll try to keep up with you over the weekend. Blows kisses to everyone. Lew Lew - The Packing Princess xxx

Wow - isnt this great - Laurie's back, Mary's back & now Rebs is here!!!!! I saw you Lemon Nelly today, have seen your name somewhere else, but nevertheless, welcome to Wattle - where are you based? Looking forward to hearing all about Michael's doings in Qld - I think he must have got a suntan as he still has some white bits he tells me. (Hope its not white feet, liks from wearing sox with sandals - we did warn him!) I went to an exercise class today (groan) Had to start somewhere. I hated it, I always hate exercise, but I will go back, I promise. I vote we detour to Edmonton, Canada after we've been to the Old Dart on our Lotto winning tour. Now, to do some h*******k :-((( Jood

Laurie Report 31 Mar 2006 02:30

I join the chorus of welcome back Rebs, and girl, you only worry about the things and people that are important . . . . so in future dont give garbage a place in doesn't deserve! (Really sorry you have been through the mill with it all whatever happened) I will make every effort to be in Qld on 10th June for the meet, should be fun. Son, Glen has settlement on his house on 6th April, has brought at Brighton (Qld) a block off the beach, he has some jobs he wants to get done before he moves in - Ray and I will be going to NZ mid May for a week and I propose to go north after that so should work in well. Well the washing machine hates me - it got used to the idle life while I was away, and I've given it a work out today - and despite the fact that after a month off I now have to get back into the dreaded chores (a month off cooking and cleaning has been bliss) I am glad to be back home . . . We did have our turns at cooking while staying with Debs, she has excellent Chinese and Indian take aways just up the road ! The view of Botany Bay from my balcony takes some beating, there are five idle giraffes this morning and the flights have been coming and going as have the ships. Although it is a dull grey day, its is still busy on the Bay. I still have to venture out to the shops to fill the larder, hubby only got the essentials in between naps yesterday (Oh and he didn't forget the flowers - after all its essential to spoil the one who provides the insanity) Poor Ray came back with chest infection, sent him off to Dr yesterday for drugs so should be fine soon, gone to office anyway - get more sympathy there he reacons ! I couldn't understand how much more weight we had in the bags coming home, as I did shop - but not that much - untill I piled up the paper work we had collected . . . no wonder Ray was telling everyone he had brought a new printer and donated it to the archives !!! That was his job, to get everything I found copied, along with hard copies he also was able to photograph them all for me. All up we had 2 days at Kew, 1 day at Canterbury, 1 day at Dover and 1 day at Maidstone records offices. Along with the many addresses off census, and churches where important family events took place. Joodles, did you go into St Martains on the Field church when you were in London, its right at Trafalgar Square and has a cafe in the crypt - fascinating place! NOW, comes the hard part - putting it all together . . . I have to say, there was nothing like reading through the original ships logs from the early 1800's, the writting for the most part was done with the most beautiful script - these were mostly sailing ships, and my gtgtgramps was the captain of the mast on several of them. Finding him wasn't easy, as he was in the Royal Navy before they had continuous service numbers - one rejoined the service with every new ship they signed on to. Once I had him on one ship, I could go back to the one before as it listed previous ship. Then I struck it lucky when I found a log the captain had written a physical description of all the crew (and I very nearly didn't read that last book as I thought I was expecting too much of Ray on our last day - but he insisted), and it also listed the number to find his pension application ! Jackpot! More info about the family. Good luck Lew with the move, sounds like you have built Mudgee castle - fitting for the princess - or Miss Mudgee . . . whenever I hear the name Mudgee I remember way back after the news on the ABC they used to give the railway movements and it was always 'The Mudgee, Binnaway, Wobbigah (sp) Mail is running on time' One of those strange little things that stay in the memory bank! Tony, I dont think I got your email, haven't come across it yet and I did have my server spit the dummy at me about using up my mail space. I deleted a lot but think they shut me out for a few days there somewhere! Well, I have had my break so best get back to work Just got the pile of mail from the post office and now have to pay some bills !! Yuk cheers for now - be back later for another break and a few more pages of reading and catching up with you all luv Laurie

Good Afternoon ALL Wattlers. Firstly and foremost, as its the most important. Welcome back Rebs, I know you just couldnt stay away and miss a chance of stirring those Pie Supporters could you Hee Hee. Laurie nice to also see you back on the thread, we did miss your report of the Bay and giraffes while you was away. Glad to see your trip had some nice finds, now the works starts with it putting it all together. Julie hope you are feeling better, its no fun being sick and having no energy to do anything. Well its gotta be Football season it is cold and drizzling today, and we are expecting a frost for Sunday. Hopefully those Dockers will be like brass monkeys and not be able to play well over here pmsl. Ohhh I do hope there are no Freo supporters on here :-0 I think getting the QE2 is a great idea, I dont care where we go and where we stop for shopping etc, I just love ships and the wide blue oceans, can sit on the deck and look out at the water for hours. When I was young and still at home, we made a few trips on the ships between Devonport and Melbourne and if Mum and Dad didnt know where I was, they only had to go and look on the decks and they would find me looking out at the water. Well a big hello to all I havent mentioned, fingers crossed for tomorrow night, catch you all later. Cheers Sue
