lol Tiamo, we are discusing going halves with chickens with our son's partner. The place where we previously bought our chickes from has a minimum purchase of four birds. Two would suffice for our current needs. When both our children were at home, four chickens gave us an ample supply of eggs plus some extra to sell at times.

We give more away to neighbours than we eat ourselves. When they are all laying regularly there are far too many eggs. My daughter doesn't live at home and my son doesn't seem to eat healthy food :-D :-D

We have a foxes den just yards from the chicken house and run.

It's a bit of a nightmare - we rely on our underweight pussycat to see them off :-(

I would be so upset if something happened to an animal - i couldn't risk it - they would be like family - I was heartbroken when I lost the dogs & cat - let alone the budgie when I was 12

Hello all

A few years ago a dog got into the garden and killed our chooks. I complained to the Council and the Ranger said that it was our fault for having inadequate fencing. I, not very politely, reminded him that in WA it is an offence not to have your dog on a lead except in designated exercise areas! :-| :-|

Quite right, Alan.

But - how about this one - last year a bunch of crows dived bombed the hens and 2 of them died of shock. I just got there as they died -really horrible. We now have netting over the entire length of the outdoor run. :-(

I turn into a troglodyte in the summer. Much too hot for me particularly if it gets humid. When I lived in Leonora temps could get up to 40c before it bothered me as the air was dry. Here anyhing over 30c and I'm gone :-(

Hi~~
Lot of chicken chat going on, sorry you've lost your fowls ,at some time or other, hope you don't loose any more to predators.
I remember my uncle, who lived next door to us had chickens,I used to feed then when I was a child..fearless.. wasn't frightened of them pecking me ..tho they sometimes did !! He had a very high chicken wire fence surrounding the hen house and run, and also chicken wire over the top, belt and braces job.
I never remember him loosing any hens.

Am I on the right thread now ?! Yes..... Food and drink ;-)
