Hello all. I'm jealous, apart from going to Belgium and Germany when I was in the UK army reserve, I didn't spend much time abroad. :-(

Hi~~
My first trip across the waters was a 17day school trip to Switzerland when I was 17.
It was brilliant .I was rather tiddly arriving in Belgium for breakfast after the ferry crossing, my friends and I gave up our berths ( I couldn't sleep down in the depths of that blooming ferry, it stunk of diesel fuel to me ..ugh ) so spent the crossing on the upper decks partaking of a few bevvies..but returned in time for the 'role call'.
We had a few days in Germany , before getting to Interlaken in Switzerland, where we spent most of the time, ( lots of trips to Lucerne , Gringelwald , Murren and up the Jungfrau ,just a few I remember ) ....it was beautiful.
The return journey we had a few days in France . It was in July ,and tho we'd spent a long time on the coach ,I came back as tanned as if I'd had fortnight soaking up the sun on some Mediterranean beach.
Been to a lot more places since then :)

But Europe will fit into Australia with lots of space left over !
Tho the different cultures were somewhat of an experience. :-)

Ok so I'd forgotten about my school trips to Switzeland and Norway, but as they were over 50 years ago they probably don't count :-(
I also went to Cyprus in 1970 wth the army and to Bulgaria a few years later!

I'd love to go to Sweden or Norway :)

lol Sandie. We never went to Spain as it was too 'English'. For the same reason we will not go to Bali (it's too Australian complete with drunken yobs) even though it's cheaper to fly there from Perth than it is to fly from Perth to most Australian cities. :-(

Ooh.. that was our first hols abroad when the children were young ..Spain.
Thought that it being so ' British' ,it would be OK if anything happened with the children, and the hosps being so good.
Only been to mainland Spain once ,Minorca is a beautiful island, the Canaries too,all of the islands. Majorca has some nice quite places, but has a reputation of being full of drunken British louts like Ibiza, yet there there are some lovely places. We self cater and usually have a villa or town house.
We love the Greek islands tho, been to lots of the less commercialized ones.
Went to Corfu before children were born and the hosps were appalling , they have improved now.

Good day all~~~
It's sunny , but with a chilling easterly wind...still going out for my walk later :-)
Then brace ourselves for the snow that is forecast.
We had a dusting last night, still visible where the sun hasn't shone on it!

No snow in the south east (as forecast) -

Saw your comment on the "Oranges & Sunshine" Allan - saw the film today - very thought provoking - how could either government do that & the charities get away with it in the name of Christian Charity it is beyond belief - I feel like I should apologise & I was born several years after it all happened - its all so very sad -

lol Tabitha. No worse than The Australian Government did to the Aboriginal Children up to as recently as 1970; here is a link if you are interested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stolen_Generations. Some of the missions were still in existence when I first arrived in Leonora in 1982, although by that stage they had reverted back to full aboriginal control. I also knew, and worked with, several of the 'Stolen Generation'

No, Tabitha. People did complain about their treatment but no one in authority listened, nor took the complaints seriously. Look at the very recent revelations about Jimmy Saville! The following link which is about a case in WA at a school hostel illustrates the point nicely, if that is the correct expression to use :-( http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/misjudged-character-of-complainant-may-have-allowed-mckenna-to-keep-abusing-20120411-1ws1e.html
