Thank goodness we have heard from you Sallie, I was getting really worried about you. It definately looks like it is going to be quiet here over the weekend. My neighbour has just popped in for a cuppa, and a chat.
Hi dutch, are you feeling any better now. Is Jan any better.

Cooled down a bit Mo, only about 76 now, was in the 80s. A bit cloudy today with occasional patched of sun, still enjoying ourselves, tired today though as we had a late night last night, chatting and drinking with our hosts.

Hi Everyone ,

I had just written a nice long message to you all, and forgot to press submit before going back to the message boards, so lost the lot.

Now how stupid is that? It must be my age! lolol!!

I'll write another message to you all tomorrow, as I'm too tired tonight.
Sorry!

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Huia Report 18 Sep 2010 21:18

Good morning/evening all. It has been very stormy here in NZ. It was supposed to ease up for a little while today, and I had thought of visiting Phil in that easy space, but at present it is still blowing rather strongly. I will see how it goes later on, but I might give it a miss for a few days until the storm has passed. There was a small tornado about 50m to the west of us, lifted the roof off a house and ruined the interior, while the neighbours houses were untouched. Lots of trees down all over the place. A stadium in Invercargill (down the bottom of NZ) lost its roof due to heavy snow. The Waikato River has flooded parts of Hamilton city. The more I think about it the more I think Phil can miss his Sunday visit from me. But we will see. If things ease up after I have done the breakfast dishes etc I could change my mind, or even go after lunch. This is supposed to be spring now!

I visited Phil after doing the dishes. He was not very wide awake so I stayed only a half hour, arrived home just before the rain returned. It is forecast to continue wet and very windy until Friday :((( Will it never cease?

Hi everyone, I have just been reading the last few days postings on here and found that I missed a word out in the first sentancecof my last posting. I meant to say that it wasn't raining!

Slept on the seatee most of yesterday afternoon, so didn't get round to check the genes boards.

Jean, I am so sorry to read about your fall. I hope that you soon feel better and that you get your glasses sorted pdq I know that I would be lost without mine.

Dutch, I hope that your water infection clears quickly, at least you are now on medication for it. Good luck with the Doctor on Tuesday.

I enjoyed my massage on Friday, got a take-away fish soup from a local Caribbean take-away on my way home. yummy-yummy.

Huia, the weather sounds pretty dismal .. but at least you have got the spring and summer to look forward to.

Off now for some food.

Take care everyone, and thanks for your good wishes,

Tess

Hi girls. Good to hear from you.
Ann, it's good to hear you are still enjoying yourselves. All the late nights will catch up with you, when you get home. How much longer are you there for?.
It's not very nice here at the moment, and has turned very chilly. But I refuse to put the fire on just yet. So an extra cardigan came in handy.
I hope you have both taken a coat with you for when you come home.Brrrrrr

Sallie are you sure you are pushing the submit button, and not the preview. I have done that a few times by mistake, and wondered where my message had gone.

Huia, I hope the winds and rain slow down a bit, to enable you to get out and about.
What a pity Phil wa not very responsive when you visited him. But it makes you happier knowing you have seen him doesn't it.
I was reading on the carers thread about you buying the cuddly toys. You should keep them for yourself to snuggle up to of a night time.

Hi Dutch my lovely. I hope that you are feeling a little better. The infection may take quite a while to clear, so lets hope the doctor gives you more anti-biotics to take to clear it up completely.
Good luck for Tuesday, please let us know how you get on.
Is Jan's flu any better now. I do hope so.

Hello Tess. I did not know you could buy take away fish soup. Shows how much of a sheltered life I live now. LOL
I hope you are feeling a little better today. You know what they say, "one day at a time ".
Have you started on your vitamin B12 injections yet.

I wonder if Debbie and the family are o.k, only we have not heard from them in a while.

Also we have not heard much from Sylvia either. If you are looking in Sylvia
a big((((((((((((HUG ))))))))))))) for you and xxxxx for MJ

Liz I hope you are o.k, and getting things sorted out at your end. Did you manage to contact the C.A.B for information.

Last and not least our lovely Jean ((((((((((((((((((HUGS and XXXXX))))))))))))))

Take care everyone. Love Mo xxx

Sallie Report 19 Sep 2010 20:22

Hi Ladies,

Sorry abut last night, I don't know what I must have been thinking about, not to have pressed the submit button.
Alun goes back to work tomorrow, so it looks as though I'll be back to making cards this week, not that I mind. Didn't have much time towards the end of last week, as we were out a few days, by the time we got home I was too tired to do anything else.

Joyce, it was lovely to hear your voice when you phoned, you certainly sounded your normal self. I'm so pleased to know that you are much better. It's a wonder that your doctor's ears haven't fallen off, after what I called him. lolol!! Anyway the main thing is, that you are a lot better now. Maybe the pain that you still have is because the water infection hasn't cleared up completely and that you might need some more or a different antibiotics.

Jean, I hope that you are feeling a little better today and that the bruises are not so painful as they were yesterday. I also hope that J and D are both alright. Are you managing to make any cards? With your fingers being so sore from the fall it must be a no!

When do you and J go to Llandudno? I know you that you've told us, but I can't remember the date.

Huia, I see from your post that you went to see Phil after all, sorry to hear that he wasn't as responsive as he's been. It was good that you managed to get home before the rain started again.

Debbie, hope all is well with you and your family. It's a while since we heard from you, so I hope there's nothing wrong.

Ann. good to hear that you and OH are enjoying your holiday. I read on JoJo's thread that you have made some toppers ready for your Christmas cards. You have done well making them while you're on holiday.

Mo, I hope that your leg is better than it's been and that you will hear from the hospital very soon.

I see from your post yesterday, that your neighbour had been around for a cuppa and a natter.

Up until six years ago, myself and a neighbour did that a couple of times a week. She suffered with a bad chest for a couple of years, so couldn't go out very much, she always liked to come over here, it was only four houses away and flat to walk on, so she could manage that okay.
She was only 44 and died suddenly one evening, Alun had been across
there to take a passport form and photos back to their daughter, she died half an hour later. It was such a shock to us all.

Richard has got a job at last! He's over the moon, he really thought that he wasn't going to get a job again. Who can blame him, considering that he had applied for well over 450 jobs and only got a response from about twelve of the companies.
He will be working in Slough, which isn't too far away, but he has to travel to Harlow each day to do his training, so it'll mean the long haul on the M25. Still it will only be for about four weeks, so the time will soon go.

Tess, lovely to hear from you and to know that you're feeling a bit better.
Glad that you enjoyed your fish soup. I've never tried it so don't know what it's like. What sort of fish is it made from and is there any vegetables in it?

Sylvia, hope that your weather is not as cold as it's been. It's a bit colder here too, but I suppose what else can we expect from now on.lolol!!
Alun and I went to Derby yesterday morning and we were both glad that we had put a warm jacket on.

Hope all is well with J and her family. I bet you can't wait for Christmas to see them all again, especially MJ, with it being his first Christmas too.
Sending hugs and kisses to MJ. xxxxxx

Liz, how are things with you? I hope that you are better than you've been.
Also hope that OH is better and that the doctor has started to sort out the problem he has.
Has he heard anything from NY son yet? I can understand OH being hurt , to be treated the way he has after all the help he has given his son in the past.

Well I hope that Marie and her friend had a good journey, and that they'll have a great hoiday.

Mo, nearly forgot to ask you. When do you start playing darts again?
It can't be too long now, I'm sure.

Alun has just made us a drink, so I'd better go and have it.

Love and best wishes to you all. Sallie. xxx

Hi all

sorry I haven't been in for a few days. I've had a busy week ...... out almost all day on Tuesday and Wednesday, then really tired on Thursday and Friday!

The weather is poor here at the moment. It isn't really too cold. In fact, I have been out in short sleeves a couple of times, but what we have needed is rain jackets! It started raining again late yesterday (Saturday) afternoon, and we had some really heavy rain during the evening and overnight. We are still under a rain warning! I think is is supposed to be sunny on Tuesday or Wednesday :)))

Yesterday, we went out to our local Home Depot store, and chose flooring for the kitchen ..... we picked a vinyl with a large "stone tile" pattern. It comes in big sheets that are cut to size. An estimator will come by Thursday (we hope .... or we have to phone the company) to measure and make notes. It will take another couple of days for us to be given an accurate estimate. Then it will take about 2 weeks to get it in, and arrange installation.

OH is hoping to empty one or two of base cupboards today ............. after he's found a space to put the boxes!

We have about 3 weeks left in the time of the estimate to have the plumbing done ...... they estimated that would only take half-a-day.

The cabinets are well on the way to being finished.

Sallie ........ so glad to hear that Richard has got a job at last. It must be so hard for young people these days.

Mo, I've just seen your message. No it wasn't the preview button I hit, I checked that just in case and hoped that I had, but no joy I'm afraid.

I'm later posting because Jennie and Michael came for their Sunday later today as Michael had been with their next door neighbour to pick up a caravan.

While they were here they helped Alun to move our living room around, so that I could get a small craft table in, so that I can make cards in here during the winter.

Sallie I can't tell you how pleased I am about Richards job. He had tried so hard for so long bless him, but it has paid of in the long run.
It's a darned nuisance that he has to travel so far, but hey, he's got a job, yippee, I am chuffed to fluffy balls for him.
You are lucky to be able to change your room around. We have to leave our furniture where it is, as the room is not that big. But it's lovely and cosy in the winter time, with the fire on.
Our darts season starts again on the 4th of October Sallie. I just hope my knee is better by then, as I can't get my balance right whilst it's like it is.
I start my physio on Tuesday afternoon. I don't know if it will help, but kill or cure as the saying goes.

Hi Sylvia, I thought you had forgotten us love.
What colour have you chosen for the kitchen units, and the flooring.
Your lino sounds very much like the one Jean chose. Great minds think alike methinks.
It shouldn't take long for the plumbing to be installed,as most of the pipe works are already there. It would normally only mean new connections, unless they are changing the whole lot of the pipes from the mains itself.
My son owns his own kitchen showroom, and does all the fitting himself.
He doesn't trust anyone else to do the fits for him, just in case there is a problem.
His son is going to go into business with him at a later stage. At the moment he is at college, doing an electrical course, so that he can take over from my son, doing all the electrics on the fits.
I cant remember what the actual course is called, if I asked Roly he would tell me, but he is into his programme on the t.v at the moment. ( As normal )
Sorry to hear that your weather, like Huia's has been rotten lately.

Well I will say good night god bless you all. Love Mo xxx

It is still very warm here but we did have rain overnight, everything soon dried up though.
Sallie I am so pleased that Richard has got a job at last, well done him for perseverence.
Tess, hope you are feeling better, take away soup sounds nice.
Sylvia, I always think wet is worse than cold in some ways, so uncomfortable.

Mo in Kent Report 20 Sep 2010 14:00

Hi girls.
Dutch I have been playing darts for years. I play for the Rainham and District league. It's only local pubs and clubs though, not big time. I could not afford to drink in many pubs these days,so I belong to a local club, the drinks are a bit cheaper in there.
Gone are the days when I won lots of trophies, the old arthritus has a lot to answer for.
When our season starts, we get good results, but come the return matches, the other teams have pulled their socks up, and we get nowhere. Never mind I enjoy it anyway.
I wish I could be up to the standard of Raymond van Barneveld, or the dutch ladies champion, I can't remember her name though I am afraid.
We always love to watch the competitions on t.v. I wonder sometimes, how the heck they manage to the score 180, getting the darts in that little red treble is a skill I have never managed to achieve.
We don't play on a treble board in our league, it's just a black Kentish board, and we need to hit a double to finish the same as a trble board, but there are no trebles at all on the boards, and we don't bust if we score more than we need.
Sorry all, talking darts with Dutch, and leaving you all out, how rude of me.
I went shopping this morning, and because I thought it would be cold out, I put my new winter coat on. Oh how I wish I hadn't, I was sweating buckets. That will teach me.
I will pop back later to speak to you all. Love Mo xxx

Sallie Report 20 Sep 2010 14:12

Hi All,

Joyce, lovely to see your post. I thought I'd just have a quick look in while I'm having a break from card making. How are you getting on with your cards?

Mo, there are a few ways that we can put our living room furniture, but after a short while we always seem to move it back to how we had it originally.
But at least I can make cards in here now, although the majority of my craft stash has to be kept in another room. I don't mind that, as I am able to store the things I need all the time and a few other things on the shelf on the craft table.

I keep wondering how Richard is getting on today. The store in S makinglough is opening a week on Friday, so he won't have to travel to Harlow very long, thank goodness.

He was getting down about not having a job, he thought what was the point of getting his GCSE's, A levels, and a degree and still not being able to get a job. I'm glad to say that he didn't give up and persevered to find one.k to the card
ard making.

I wonder where Debbie is, it seems ages since we heard from her.
We haven't heard from Liz for a while either, hope that everything is okay with the both of them.

Jean, I hope you are feeling a bit better again today. Take care!

Sylvia, it will be lovely when your kitchen is done. I know after we had our's done, it was like being in a different house, we had so much more storage space, it was wonderful.

Huia, hope your weather is getting better. I hate it when it rains a lot, everything and everwhere looks so dismal.

Tess, hope you are having a good day today. We are all here for you, if you need us.

Ann, pleased to know that the weather is stiil good for you and T.

Right, I've had my break now, so it's back to the card making.

I might look in later today.

That was me last week Sallie. Every time I wanted to do something, we had visitors turn up. Dont get me wrong, I was pleased to see them, but it meant other things had to go on the back burner.
How did Richards first day go. I hope he did not get caught up in any snarl ups on the M25. Thats one horrendous piece of motorway.

Thank goodness you have got a good memory Joyce. I could not for the life of me remember Francis Hoesenlaars name. I knew Trina Gullivers name, but just one year I would love to see her unseated.
There are so many excellent players on the circuit now, but nerves take over when it comes to the semi-finals. And Francis and Trina, have been in the finals so many times, it doesn't bother them any more.

Right I am of to watch some t.v now, and check the boards out.
Love to you all. Mo xxx

SylviaInCanada Report 20 Sep 2010 19:19

Hi all

it's still raining!

Mo .......... I could never forget you!

I just run out of time, and get uncomfortable sitting when I get so tired.

OH just phoned ............. he has arranged for the plumber to start on October 4. Apparently the work will be spread over 2 or 3 days, the finishing bit being determined by when the flooring is laid.

It does involve some new piping. The inlet into the house for water is in the basement, and has to be led upstairs. The old pipe to the kitchen sink was installed when the house was built (about 1944) ................ not only was it a metal of some sort, but it was installed in the wall. At a later date, the pipe under the kitchen sink was connected to newer copper piping where it came out from the wall, and then to plastic piping around 1980.

So, we've decided to have all new piping installed from the basement to the sink, but out in the open so we can get to it for repairs etc. Plus, there is some evidence that the old metal can react with copper, and that may not be too good for us. The old piping inside the wall will be sealed off, but left in place .......... so we shouldn't havve to have the wall ripped apart!

Then we also want some piping led along part of one wall in the kitchen because we want to have a built-in dishwasher. There isn't room to do it next to the sink.

The house was re-wired about 4 years ago, and I think everything should be OK there.

Sallie ....... I'm not sure how much more storage space we will get, since we basically lose one cupboard to the dishwasher. BUT we are going to have pull-out shelves in the cupboards, so it will make life much easier. No getting down on your knees to see what is in there! I haven't been able to do that for at least the last couple of years, and OH has had to do it for me ..... but he's beginning to compain about his knees now!

OH's sister arrives on Sunday evening for an overnight visit, she has to be back at the airport by about 8 am. She's visiting her daughter in the Yukon and cannot get there from her home town without flying south to Vancouver, and then north from here to the Yukon! At least we get to see her every few months, even if only for overnight!

OH plans to start ripping out the bottom cupboards and counters after she's left.

Tonight we're going out to an "Information Meeting" ................... there are big plans to do a redevelopment on the site of our local Safeway (grocery store). The plans involve moving the store to the front of its car park, and building 3 high rise towers on the rest. One of 9 floors, one of 14, and one of 24 ........ this in an area where there are lots of apartment buildings, but none higher than 4 floors, but the majority are houses. About 50% of the apartments are supposed to be for renting at "affordable" rents ....... but the rents that are being suggested are NOT affordable. In fact, the cost I heard for a 2-bedroom apartment is almost twice the going rate in the neighbourhood, granted that's in much older buildings. BUT the rooms in those older apartments are also much larger!

Not only that, but the site is at the junction of 2 major roads, with quite incredible traffic AND a high accident rate at the corner.

I'm also concerned about the facilities in the neighbourhood for that number of extra people ............. the elementary school is old, and already has extra portable buildings to accommodate students, the high school is way over subscribed, the local community centre is old and ....................... you see what I mean?!

off to mooch around the baords.

take care
