Sallie Report 20 Sep 2010 20:27

Mo, don't know how Richard got on on his first day, he wasn't finishing until six and then make his way home on that wonderful M25, lolol!!!, so goodness knows what time he got home. He did say that they were going to do the weekly shopping as soon as he got home, so I haven't spoken to him to find out. I'll ring him in about an hour, as both Alun and I are itching to know how he got on.

Sylvia, I like the idea of pull out shelves, it's got to be a must for everyone as they grow older.
Our kitchen is a good size so we have plenty of cupboards, but with me being only 5ft and having short arms I find it difficult to reach things from the back of the middle shelves.
Although I have a small step stool, I still find it difficult to reach things from the corner shelves

I'm going to make a cuppa now, so will speak to you all tomorrow.

Love, Sallie. xxx

Sylvia, Just had to ask OH where the Yukon is, sorry to show my ignorance.
Sallie, annoring to be vertically challenged isn't it? All the cupboards in our kitchen are so tall that I can't reach without a step stool. And as to what is stored on the tops of them.
Don't complain Mo, it would be nice to get visitors, we rarely get any. And you chat away with Joyce about darts, don't understand a word but nice to see something different.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Sep 2010 00:45

I'm not vertically challenged, I'm now 5' 7" (used to be 5' 8½" lol!)

.............. but I need a step stool to see what is on the top shelves of the upper cupboards!

unfortunately, slide out drawers are not feasible for the upper cupboards because you still can't see what is inside them!

EDITED ... to put a space between 5' and 7 ........ it looked as though I said I'm now 57 lol!

Hello, everyone, As you see Dutch, I am feeling much better thanks, the bruises are turning yellow now so It matches most of my peggies......lol.... still a bit shaky though, takes a while when you are a golden oldie....well you all seem to be very busy, or going to be... Sylvia, your kitchen sounds as though it will be done in quick time, ours went on for weeks. we have the pull out corner shelves and also pull out drawers too, worth all the hassle, they are so good, I have a gadget that enables me to get most of the stuff off the higher cupboards, the sort the street cleaners use to pick up litter...
Ann, your holiday sounds just what I need we are off to our fav place end of Oct, but it wont be hot and sunny , although you never know , we have been before that time of year and had an indian summer perfick....
Sallie, had to stop the cards for a while but had a go yesterday and made a step card with an over card in printed acetate... great news for Richard, my grandson S is out of work again, he is a chef by trade and managed to work quite a while when the restaraunt closed over two years ago, now its back to job seeking again. D is doing very well and is working full time at the moment, J is J...lol...bless him ..
Huia, Debbie, Tess, hope you are all o.k. our Marie who is on her jollies, in Italy, much love to you all.
Mo, my famous dart player friend, you are a dark horse, we keep finding all sorts of hidden gems about you, are there anymore skeletons in your cupboard you would like to share with us???? xxx

Sallie Report 21 Sep 2010 18:14

Hello Girls,

Jean, lovely to see you back on the boards and to know that you are feeling a lot better. It's good that you have been able to make a card, so at least your hands are not so sore.

Yes, it's great that Richard has got a job at last, so now we hope that things will go well for him with this company.

I'm sorry to hear that your grandson has lost his job. Let's hope that as a qualified chef, it won't be too long before he'll get another one.

It's nice to know that D is able to work full time hours, she is to be admired, how she always looks on the positive of life. Well done, D!

I'm still waiting for Alun to scan some of my cards, so that I can send you, Caz, Joyce and Ann pics of them as I promised. I'm sorry to keep you waiting for them, but it isn't easy getting him away from his trains.lolol!!!

Dutch, sorry to hear that you are still suffering badly from cramp. I hope you managed to get some sleep when you went back to bed. Would it be worth mentioning to your doctor when you go on Thursday?

I've posted on the thread that you put up for Caz, I really hope that things won't be as bad as she fears. She's such a lovely lady!

Mo, everything went okay on Richard's first day, thank you for asking.
Just hope that things will go alright for him from now on. He told us that he will have a lot of reading to do while he's training, but I don't think that will put him off because he's always got his head in a book. Not the kind of books that I myself would read, he likes reading mostly Autobiographies, Biographies and Non-Fiction.

He's in Harlow again today, then tomorrow he has to go to Wood Green, so he'll be able to go on the train and underground.

Sylvia, I had to chuckle when I read what you had edited. Oh it would be nice if we could all go back in age -----and without all the aches and pains that go with growing old. lolol!!

Ann, seen on the news about that couple, I hope it isn't anywhere near to where you and T are staying.

Liz. it's good to see you on the boards, but as Jean has already said we miss you on here.

Thinking about Huia, Debbie, Tess and Marie.

Well that's all for now, I might look in later on.

Love and best wishes. Sallie. xxx

Mo in Kent Report 21 Sep 2010 19:04

Hello everyone.
Well I went for my physio today. She thinks it's to do with my cartilege (sp),
And I now have to wait for an M.R.I scan, and it could tale weeks to arrive.
I am supposed to keep my leg elevated, and apply ice pack three to four times a day. For goodness sake, does she not realise, that the work does not do itself. Roly is very good, but I can't expect him to do everything, for the next goodness knows how many weeks.
If it is the cartilege, she thinks they will,as she put it, wash it out. I am not sure how they do that, have visions of a big hose pipe, inserted into my knee LOL
When we said that I have the cysts, she said they have swollen because of the damage to the knee, and if the cartilege is sorted, then the cysts will go down.
It seemed a complete waste of time, but only time will tell.

Jean there are no more skeletons in my cupboard, apart from my line dancing fame. Well not so much fame I am afraid to say. Only got three trophies for coming third,in the competitions I entered. Always the bridesmaid, and never the bride as they say. But great fun at the time.
And the costumes were absolutely grand, you would have been dead proud of me Jean.
Your little fingers did brilliantly today, typing that amount love, well done sweetie.
I hope you are o.k today, and that your lovely yellow bruises soon disperse.

Oh Joyce, I do feel for you with the cramps. It's amazing how during the day, the cramps do not seem to be as bad as at night.
As Sallie has said, could you mention it to your doctor on Thursday. Or is he already aware that you suffer from it.

Sallie, I feel sure that Richard will make a complete success with this new job. The difference between him and others, is that he really wanted to work, and a lot of others don't.
They attend interviews, because they have to, or they will lose what benefits they are receiving. And if they have children, I hate to admit, they are better of not working.
We know of a man from years ago, who had ten children. He was a cobbler by trade. And when he lost his job,and applied for benefits, he was better of not working. He got his rent paid, his children had free school meals, and he certainly learnt what to apply for, and when to do it.
As we both know, and Jean as well no doubt, that our boys were living on the bread line,as they had no dependants.

Hi Sylvia, Huia,Tess, Liz and our holiday girl Ann, oh and not forgetting Debbie.
Bye for now my friends. Love Mo xxx

Huia Report 21 Sep 2010 20:45

Well, last nights tv weather forecast led me to believe that the weather was going to be a bit better today so I was planning to go shopping and visit Phil, but our newspaper online says we had the 'lull' last night and it is going to be worse today. I am heartily sick and tired of it. I dont know if I will be going out today, or going out of my mind with boredom. I suppose I can wash the breakfast dishes and write a shopping list just in case I do decide to go out.

Sallie Report 21 Sep 2010 20:54

Mo, sorry I had forgotten that you were going for physio today. So will she be able to send you for the MRI scan? Goodness knows how long you'll have to wait, now Mo. As for keeping your leg elevated that's easier said than done-----like you said who do they think is going to do all the things that need to be done.

My brother has had an operation on his other heel today, it went well, thank goodness. He has to keep it elevated for two weeks, using crutches so that he can have a small amount of exercise around the house.

Take care!

Hi all

it was a lovely sunny day today .... tomorrow it officially becomes fall, and it is forecast to be sunny

BUT the rain returns by the weekend ...... and this may well become the wettest September on record. We've already had almost 3 times the average.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

just spent an hour on the web trying to make reservations on the ferry for our trip to Vancouver Island in a couple of weeks time.

Everything went well, until it was time to access my account, which I have had for years

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr no I don't have an account it seems

password not accepted, asked for reminder, email address not on file

WHAT!

I then went round 3 times trying to register anew

Before we'd finished, OH was standing beside me counting each stroke for my password, and other secret symbols

finally managed to get accepted, and to get reservations for the two trips .............. although I really wasn't sure whether I was booking 3 trips in one direction by the time I'd finished!

I now need a rest!!!

Take care everyone

Sylvia, sorry to hear that you had troubleaccessing your account. It is so maddening when you can't access an account that you know you have. We have had the same problems in the past, so I know how you feel.
I must say that you made me laugh when you said that in the end you didn't know whether you had booked for three trips the same way. I know the feeling.lolol!!

Dutch, I hope that all will go well for you tomorrow, whatever the problem is, you must get it sorted out. If you don't, it will only make you worry and you'll start thinking all sorts of things.

Hope Jan is feeling better.

Good luck for tomorrow, I'll be thinking about you. Take care!

Huia, sorry that you are having such awful weather,. I hope that it soon clear up so that you can get out and about.

I have to get ready to go and do the shopping now, so will speak to you all later on.

Mo in Kent Report 22 Sep 2010 18:42

Hi all.
I bet you were on the phone to Liz, Dutch. She is a proper night owl isn't she.
Good luck for the doctors tommorrow. We will look forward to speaking to you, when you are up to it love.

Huia I hope your weather clears up very soon, theres nothing worse than being housebound, when you feel you would like to go out,and can't.
How's your mouse situation now, have they all gone. They probably came
in out of the cold and rain.
But they did not ask if they could move in did they, and if they did, they should have been paying rent. LOL

Sallie, have you heard how your brother is feeling today. He will get bored just sitting around, especially if he is normally an active man. Is this the brother who is a priest.
Does he have a computer to keep him occupied. Or perhaps he likes to do cross words,or word searches. I like to sit and read a lot, I am a proper book worm.

Oh Sylvia, what a nuisance being unable to pay for your booking straight away. It does make you wonder what the heck is going on at times doesn't it.
How long are you going to be in Vancouver Island for. It sounds lovely, I am very envious, in fact to be honest, I am green with envy.

Sallie have you finished buying the shop up yet. lol
My big shop day, should be Friday, but we will wait and see. If we get the rain thats forecast, it may be done on Saturday or Sunday. I refuse to get soaked, we will have to manage with whats in the freezer.

I hope everyone is well. Love to all. Mo xxx

Sallie Report 22 Sep 2010 21:58

Hi Everyone,

Well that's a good job over and done with for another week----the older I get, the more I dislike shopping.
Mo, we always did our shopping on a Friday, but it got so busy and chaotic, that we changed our day to a Wednesday and because it was much quieter, we've stuck to a Wednesday ever since.

Thank you for asking about my brother! I spoke to my sister-in-law last night and she said that the operation had gone well, that he was alright and that he was in theatre for two hours.

I spoke to John myself at lunch time, he sounded fine and said he wasn't in any pain as whatever medication they gave him for the operation, was still working. But he did say that about nine tonight the medication would have worn off.

Yes Mo, he is a vicar and he's my only sibling. He doesn't like sitting down for long, so he's not too happy about keeping his leg elevated for two weeks---but he enjoys reading and he'll be able to watch sport on the television, and of course he's got his laptop, so hopefully he'll have enough to keep him occupied.

The weather's been lovely here today, but it looks as though we're going to have rain tomorrow and Friday---the trouble is, that once the rain starts, it doesn't know when to stop.

Well I'll say goodnight to you all and I'll speak to you all tomorrow.

Love and best wishes to you all. Sallie. xxx

Huia Report 22 Sep 2010 21:59

I did visit Phil yesterday afternoon, after all. I was fed up with staying at home twiddling my thumbs.

I havent done any washing for ages so might do some today. I wont hang it on the line as I would probably lose it all with these gales. My son had tidied up in the basement when he was up so I might put the clothes rack down there to drape some of the stuff on.

Apparently our daylight saving comes in this weekend. It is much earlier than it has been in the past. At least I can please myself when I get up and go to bed, not have to get up in the dark if I dont want to.

Huia.

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 24 Sep 2010 15:07

Hi all, i am still here and I am fine. Been off-line since Monday. My son has been tryimg to sort out my new (wireless) computer for me. He has had to get a new router (x2) plus a new modem. Then he had to speak to all sorts of people before he finally got it sorted (about an hour ago)
I have been taking Vitamin B12 tablets, not having injections, but have had a pretty good week so far (for me) Even managed to do a little ironing earlier today, and I have put it away!

Yestaeday, went to a college in town to have my hair done. Then trotted to (the nearby ) Central Library.
Changed my books and even managed to spend some time in the referance section.

While on the bus on the way home, we had a "tropical downpour" Luckily it had stopped by the time I got off the bus.

Hope that everyone is okay

Mo in Kent Report 24 Sep 2010 18:13

Oh thank goodness, I thought everyone had forgotten this little thread.
Hi Tess, it's so good to hear from you.
So you are looking all glamorous are you, with your nice hair do.
I am pleased you are feeling a little better. Hopefully the vit B12 tablets will continue to make your health improve.
Lucky girl having your son there to sort out all the computer problems.
Like you, our weather has been abysmal today. I did all the bedding this morning, and by the time I had finished the wash, the heavens had opened, and it's been like it all day.
I have got two clothes horses full up. I just hope that it clears up tommorrow,as this load of washing is never going to dry indoors.

Huia, I am going to sound very thick here, but how does your daylight saving work over there.
As you know our clocks go back in October, and forward in hmm cant remember in what month. But it is only by one hour.
Have you got anything planned for the weekend love.

I hope that everyone is well. Take care my friends. Love Mo xxx

Huia Report 24 Sep 2010 20:27

Hi there Mo.

Tonight we put our clocks forward an hour. It used to be late October that we did it, so now I will be getting up in the dark for a while. I think the clocks go back again in April. I have 5 or 6 clocks to alter each time, not to mention my watch. I think the tv and the computer do it by themselves.

Huia.

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 24 Sep 2010 21:03

Thanks for that Huia. Like you it's a darn nuisance having to change all the clocks in this house. We have six clocks, plus watches to change. Fortunately the central heating adjusts itself. I don't know how it does that, but it's darn clever.
It's my oven clock that is the biggest problem for me, thank god Roly knows how to change it,as when I do it, I somehow manage to put it onto the automatic cook setting, and then I don't know how to alter it. If it was down to me I would leave it flashing, and not touch it at all. LOL
Hows your weather over there now. Has it settled down now, or have you still got the rain and winds.
Bye for now. Love Mo xxx
