It seems a while since I have added to the thread, Sallie it is nice to see you back, I know what you mean about the shopping but I don't go, OH goes on his own as I think I am a burden with him having to get my wheelchair out and put it up then get me out, that's before we start shopping. He's much quicker on his own. I am going through a bit of a rough time just now, my back is not too bad but I am having trouble with my leg, last week they thought I had thrombosis in it but when the matron came to have a look it turns out to be only fluid, but it makes it hard to walk. The leg is going down slowly but they made a right mess of one of my prescription tablets, it's taken them two weeks to sort out then the matron came with two weeks supply of one of them which takes me to next week, to say I am fed up is an understatement and I wish they would get themselves sorted out.
Huia it sounds as if you are getting on top of the little bu**ers now, I would be getting my iron out and ironing the mattress on high heat, or even steaming it. I love figs and wish I had a fig tree but I've no garden where we live now just a communal one. What are the "rotten little silvereyes" I imagine them as the greenfly we have that spoils our plants.
Need a cuppa so will go now.

Love Caz xx

Caz, hope you can get that lkeg sorted out and your prescriptions too. What a pain.... literally. I wondered about the 'rotten little silver eyes' as well. sounds like a bug we can do without.

Huia Caz's idea re a hot iron is a good one. Hope you can kill them off for good.

Sally no problem, e mail me the photos as soon as you have them and I will put them on. there are a lot more on there since before you went away.

Lovely day here today again. Been to Homebase and bought paint for the seats in the garden. Then went to the Range and was aggraated to see they sell the paint (didn't think they would) and it is cheaper (by £3 each can) than Homebase. Aso went to Dunelm and then as I said the Range where I got some stuff I couldn't find in the Paper WArehouse in the Lake District.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ to Sylvia, Mo, Tess, Marie and Jean and anyone else looking in and (((((hugs))))) for Joyce.
Hello Ladies,
It's another beautiful day here too. It shows up just how much needs to be done to freshen the house up.lol!
Caz, nice to hear from you, although I'm sorry that you are having trouble with your leg.....at least the swelling is going down so lets hope that it will soon be a lot better.
Are you managing to make some cards? I am now doing the cards for the April birthdays, not as many to make as the ones for March. I must also start on the Easter cards, although I don't send many of them.
Ann, I haven't been on your blog for a short while, so it will be nice to see all the other cards.
I noticed when we went to the Range that they sold paint and that it was cheaper there than the DIY stores. Alun uses spray paint for some parts of his train layouts so he always goes to the Range for it....it's between
£3-4 cheaper (depending on which one he needs ) than B&Q.
Huia, as Caz said, it sounds like a good idea to iron the mattress with iron on a very hot setting.
Hope you managed to pick the rest of your figs, it would be a shame if the rotten little silver eyes get them. Whatever they might be, I have never heard of them until now.
I'll speak to you all later on, going to make myself a nice cup of tea now.
Love, Sallie.xxx
Hi Sylvia, it's a good job you have an idea what Silver Eyes are. They are obviously not a bird that has it's habitat here in the U.K. or Ann would have known about it.
It'scomes as a shock when we realise how old our children are, my eldset daughter will be 47 this year, now that does make me feel old.
How sad that your mum died on your J's birthday.
Roly's grandfather died on his birthday as well,on new years day.
Huia, you lucky thing having figs in your garden.
Do you have to have any more applications of the lotion, for the scabies.
A good deep clean is whats needed ,to ensure that the it has gone. But such hard work to have to do at any age, let alone when we are starting to age a bit.
A good boil wash should help with the bedding etc.
Have there been any more sightings of the othere little Bu**ers, the rats I mean.
I wonder if it was them that started it all off in the beginning, vermin thats what they are,and they carry so many diseases. You were so brave handling them on your own love.
It's funny you saying about buying the paint for the garden furniture Ann.
When we were in the garden yesterday, Roly said that ours needs another coat this year. Hah, I shall believe that when I see it, unless I do it myself of course.
I am getting quite handy with a paint brush now. lol
Hi Caz and Sallie, what are you both doing on here, get back to that card making. lol
I hope you have both had good days today.
Has anyone heard how Joyce and Jan are today.
Wheres our Jean tonight I wonder, I bet she busy card making as well.
Marie, I hope you knee is feeling a little better today.
Tess, I also hope you are feeling brighter today.
Take care everyone. Love to you all. Mo xxx
I'm still going.... but still a bit weak.
My son will be 37 next month and my late father would have been 91 tomorrow (he died in 1991).
I still have an aunt (by marriage) who ws born in 1910 and is still going strong. Although a communist in earlier days 9at least I think that she was), she was still pleased to get her telegram from the Queen for her 100th birthday.
she is now looking forward to getting her next one. Who knows, if the Queen retires, it may even be from a different Monarch!
Tess
P.S. I think that we may have "spoken" before Huah, I have read may of your postings and remember you walking down some (very high) steps recently!!
Huia Report 24 Mar 2011 23:42
Yes, Sylvia got it right, but then she has been to Oz where ours originated. They are also called white-eye or wax-eye. My sister calls them hoomees because when she sees them eating her figs or guavas she tells them off and they look at her with a surprised look as if to say "who, me?"
I didnt do such a big wash this morning as there is a bit of rain. I still have a lot more that I want to do before winter though.
Mo, to quote from a website on Scabies: Scabies is nearly always acquired from skin-to-skin contact with someone else with scabies. The contact may be quite brief such as holding hands.
Scabies is not due to poor hygiene. Nor is it due to animal mites, which do not infest humans." The rats have not been coming indoors lately, but they are trying to make nests downstairs, in the gap above the insulation that we put up under our house floor. Grrrr. I think I am going to have to set poison for them. I dont think our cat is interested in eating rats, she doesnt even eat the cat meat that I try her on, just licks off the gravy.
Jennet was born on the same date as my mum died ............... but 13 years later
I didn't actually connect the fact that Jennet was born on the anniversary of Mum's death, until a cousin sent me a photo of Mum's headstone. J was 16 then!
I do block out the date when someone close to me has died I remember month and year, but not date.
Huia ................ I don't think I've ever seen a silver-eye, but I was thinking what might eat figs on high branches!
Hi girls, I spoke to Joyce on Wednesday but she wasn't very well nor Jan. As you know jan has pnuemonia(sp) and he was laid on the couch rattling away in his chest when he breaths, he has to stay off work for this week. Joyce is still in a lot of pain with her back and feet, when she bumped into the bridge with her scooter last weekend she pulled a muscle in her back. The pair of them are really down and don't know how to do the shopping tomorrow, they take Jan's mum for her shopping as she needs help as well so it's all a bit of a pickle at the moment. I will be ringing her tomorrow for our weekend chat so will find the latest news of them both.
I'm hoping Liz is alright I haven't seen her on here today and she always puts something on.
Hope everyones keeping well.
Hi there girls.
Huia, give them darned rats a BIG dose of poison love, they have lodged at your home for long enough, and have outlived their welcome.
Those bloomin Scabies mites, are a nuisance to get rid off arn't they.
I meant no disrespect when I said about deep cleaning the house love.
And I genuinely wondered if the rats had bought the mites into the house.
Please forgive me if my comments upset you.
I wonder why your cat had changed her feeding habits, and wanting to be outside all the time. Is she getting on in years now. Before we lost our cat,last year, she wanted to be outside more, but we thought nothing of it, as she was always an animal that preferred to be in the garden, only coming in when she was hungry. But in the end she had a heart attack, and cancer. We still miss her terribly.
Like you Tess, I still have an aunt alive and she has got to be well into her
90's now. My cousin keeps me updated on her, as I have not seen her in well over 49 years,and she is quite frail.
I often think it would be nice to see her, but I am afraid that the shock might kill her, as the last time I saw her,I was only 16 years old.
Hello our Jean. I'm saddened to hear that you are still suffering with that
blasted Vertigo. I suppose it's an advancement that it's affecting you on your left side, when you are in bed, and not when lying down in general.
Mind you, no matter how we try to stay in one position in bed, we still tend to turn in our sleep. We will have to get J to tie you in one position in the bed so that you can't turn over. (Ooops that sounds rather cheeky doesn't it ) No saucy thoughts please ladies, keep it clean.
Not long now Ann, till you go to Tenerife. I will have to get your T to give Roly some tips about getting started on painting the garden furniture.
This is the best weather to get it started, but I can see me still waiting this time next year, before he gets up the energy to get going. LOL
Hello Caz. It's sad to hear that Joyce and Jan are still not good. They have had so much go wrong this year all ready haven't they. I hope that a member of the family can go and get their shopping for them, they shouldn't have to worry when they are both incapacitated. It's about time someone did something for them for a change.
Don't forget our clocks change this weekend, we lose another hours sleep
ooh I hate it when they change like this. We just get used to things, and wham we either go forward or backwards an hour.
We had our coucil tax bill in today, shock horror. Not that it has been increased, but they have our savings down as a huge amount. Roly has spent nearly half an hour on the phone trying to get through to them.
We have now got to send bank and building society statements to them, for it to be corrected.
How do they think that any major repairs get done, in our homes. They have to be paid for by us. And we obviously have had to fork out for a new central heating system, and Kitchen, so our savings have been reduced greatly.
Do they think that these things come free or what. LOL Everyones savings are going to dwindle, the way the economy is at the moment.
Right thats my moan over.
Bye for now girls. Love Mo xxx
Mo, I didnt take offence at your comments, but since Sylvia was the only one on here who guessed that silvereyes were birds, I thought that perhaps nobody else knew much about scabies either. I certainly didnt until I got it and I googled the site I was given.
Our clocks go back an hour next weekend, I think, so for a little while we will be 12 hours apart. After that it will be 11 hours, I think. The change of times always has me confused for a while. The time here now is 11.08 a.m. on Saturday.
Hello to everyone,
Hi Huia, yes you are right the Silver eyes do love figs but they dont get much of a look in here as the starlings are a much bigger bird and frighten the little silver eyes away, also the blackbirds are a nuisance as well.,i dont have a fig tree now but I have had them and they seem to go alright when pruned I think I would wait until spring to prune.
As I am writing this, it is Midday daylight saving time,i THINK WE CHANGE NEXT WEEKEND ALSO.
Our state election is on to-day the prediction is that Labour will get a thrashing.
My leg is a little better but i have been warned by the physio that I must still rest .
Hi Bridget the fidget , it is nice to see you popping in
.
Hi Jean sorry to hear that your vertigo is still with you Try not to stress out my dear, as one who knows it doesnt help.
I am very pleased to hear that you are having some nice weather ,It is sunny here to-day but we have a very cold wind blowing.
I dont know if I told you all, that I am a member of the University of the 3rd.age and in the 2nd term I will be starting a group for Singing it will be some instruction in breathing also word as sung but the whole aim is for all to enjoy what we do , last night I sat and went through some of my music it took awhile and I still have boxes in the Garage unpacked also a large brief case of Chior music. the class will only be about 8 to 10 voices .I am looking foward to the experience.(explaination U3A is entirely made up of people over 60 yrs.)
Hi Mo and Roly you sound very chipper I do hope you get your garden furniture painted while you have good weather I can only look at mine at the moment , it needs some replacement of some of the timber but I can't get out to( "Bunnings" our bigest hardware chain.) to pick some up.maybe next weekend.I hope LOL
To Ann, Sally, Sylvia,Caz Joyce and Liz also Julia if she should pop by Love to you all Hugs to all our sick ones
Hi all
Canada (and the US) turned their clocks forward 2 weeks ago ................. it is now about 7:30 pm PDT Friday, which means it must be about 2:30 am GMT Saturday ......... and I have no idea what time in NZ or Australia!!!
ok ... so 4 hours ago Huia said it was 11:08 am Saturday, which means it was about 3:08 pm here (and therefore about 10:08 pm GMT)
....... which means I think that I am currently about 16 hours behind Huia in NZ
phew!!!
I used to try to phone my friend in Mudgee NSW about 8 pm on a Saturday evening, and it would be about 3 pm on Sunday afternoon ........ and they'd be relaxing in the shade on their little patio!
Huia ........... I've just looked at wikipedia, and seen a photo of the silver eye ........................ I think we did see them many eyars ago when we were living in Melbourne, but we weren't sure what they were.
Huia Report 26 Mar 2011 06:14
I visited Phil today just after lunch today. He was actually talking to me at times. Not that I could hear him properly as he has such a quiet voice, and there was another resident talking to herself the whole time, plus other noises. Still, at least he was talking to me. I didnt hold his hand. The nurse said they got the doc to look at him last week and they decided to treat him for scabies. I dont know if they were sure he had it, or if they were just taking precautions in case I had given it to him with previous hand-holding.
The weather has turned wet and windy. There is apparently a tropical cyclone on its way, although they are usually downgraded to a depression by the time they get here, but I can stay indoors tomorrow.
