Mo, I have to admit that since Phil went into care, or even earlier, I didnt change the sheets as often as I should. I did change the one on his half of the bed as he always slept in the altogether, though I have to say he always had a shower before bed, so perhaps I didnt need to change it so often. In winter I always was dressed neck to toes in bed.

I should explain about our bed. We had two 2'6" wide beds which we used to make up as one queen size bed. Then it occurred to me that I could use 2 single sheets on the bottom, just using the one Q size sheet on top, plus the big blankets etc. When we got new mattresses we couldnt get 2'6" wide ones so Phil widened the bases to take the 3' mattresses and I continued with single sheets on the bottom. Now he is in care, I have separated the two beds so I dont need the large sheet and blankets on top. A bit easier for making the bed.

I am still having problems getting on to the post's, I will try and get in contact with G.R.
I am feelling better and my cold sore's are healing ,thank goodness.
It is bitterley cold here so this will be short.

I am sorry to hear that Dutch is in pain . She sent me such a beautiful card for my Birthday I got it the morning after my Birthday and it has taken Pride of place on my cupboard with all the other card's.

Jean and friend's I was give some lovely presents from Kathleen ,Barbara and grandchildren the theme was the wise old Owl,( I collect owls)
1 a trinket box in the shape of an owl with stones for eyes and colored stones and enamel so it is a lovely colour,
2nd a black umbrella with the poem of the wise old OWL and also owls on it also.
3rd. present a silver chain with a silver Owl . I was thrilled with them and the owl & chain looks so nice on a black Wollen Jumper.

I am visiting my sons to-morrow and they have present's for me also.

:-)I did my tutoring on Friday and I had 6 Ladies come alone, they seemed to have a good time and I am very pleased with their progress, I hope they can stay keen, as we will then be able to do some singing at some of the Homes for the eldely.I also enjoyed the experience., though I was exhausted when we finished.

Sylvia it is nice to see you experiencing some warm weather.I couldn't live in such a cold place :O

Glad to hear that you are feeling a lot better, and that your cold sores are now healing well.
It sounds as though your tutoring went well on Friday, as you say, let's hope that they will stay keen, so that you can all sing at the homes for the elderly. I'm sure that hearing you all sing, would give so much pleasure to the people that live there.

I hope that the doctor will investigate further, so that you'll all know what's causing the problems for your granddaughter. Hoping that it will soon get sorted, and that all wil be alright.

You certainly had some lovely birthday presents. It's nice when given things that we collect and really like----and you still have more pressies to come. Lovely!

Marie, I am sorry to hear about your grandaughters problems with her Kidneys again. I hope they can sort it out for her as soon as is possible, she's gone through enough as it is.
Thank the lord your cold sores are now drying out, they make you so self concious don't they.
Ah ha, now I know where all the singing voices I could here the other night, it was you and your ladies, having your practise session. Mind you it did sound lovely.

P (our son) and L came late yesterday afternoon, brought dinner for all of us - hot chicken plus small containers with pasta, potato salad, or coelslaw, plus they brought bread and tomatoes. They wanted to leave it all here, but I wouldnt have eaten the pot. salad or coleslaw as there is always too much dressing on them. And it would have taken a week to get through the bread, and I already had tomatoes, but they insisted on leaving the remains of the chook.

P did some tidying up of trees down the drive, etc, and he noticed one of the bird boxes was upside down so he put it the right way up with a new screw to hold it in place. They have gone home now.

Suddenly it is raining. I was thinking of going to a concert in Papakura this afternoon, to see my old choir mates. I hope it wont be raining too much.

Well, today is vey different from yesterday! Much cooler, and raining! Had to wear a rain jacket when we went out.




I didn't tell you ................ I went to the drs on Thursday. It was a pre-arranged appointment for prescription reflls, but I told her I'd had that rotten cold and cough for 2 weeks, and even coughed a few times to prove it :))

She examined me, and listened to my chest .............. but it was all clear. Isn't that always the case?!! Anyway, it's now just the tail end of a viral infection, but she thinks I probably had a mild (?!) case of bronchitis in that first week.

She did know what I was talking about though, 'cos she said she'd had the same thing!

Well I went to the concert, all Mozart. Very well presented and sung, even though I wasnt up on the stage helping with the singing!

When P was looking for some screws in the workshop this morning he almost picked up a dead rat. I had been noticing the smell the last couple of days. It was in a trap which was upside down. I must reset the traps.

Ooh Huia if P hadn't gone into the workshop the smell would have got worse, how awful would that be when you would have to have hunted it down. Glad you enjoyed your concert.
Sylvia glad you are recovering from your cold at last, and if you had a bit of bronchitis no wonder it made you feel worse.
I don't mention everyone because I can't sit too long at computer with my poorly back, last time I saw the doc he said he didn't know how I could still walk with the things wrong with it, I say it's the morphine I take for FM that helps, lol.
I spoke to Joyce last night and she can't sit at computer for too long, and she has real difficulty walking with her feet so bad so she is housebound nearly as well.
If you look in Joyce I am thinking about you and speak to you Wed.

Hi Ann I hope so, she is so looking forward to it and thinks it will be the last time she will be able to make it. She puts one foot in front of the other and hopes for the best, plus she won't be walking far when over here.
There is nothing they can do for me with my back, if they operated I would end up paralysed, and bad as I am now it is better than that.

Why is it that smoke detectors decide to warn me in the small hours of the morning that the battery is flat? About 4.30 am one started its peeping. About once a minute it peeps. I knew what it was and tried to ignore it, but I kept hearing it. I had to drag the stepladder up the stairs this morning so I could get up to take the detector down. Unfortunately I used the last new battery a couple of days ago and got son to hang that detector back up. He is taller than me, and not so nervous about climbing up and looking up. It never used to bother me, but old age is making me shaky. I must buy some new batteries today when I go out to do my afternoon shift in the hospice shop.

Son and wife visited Phil before they came here. Son said it is the most alert he has seen him for ages. Phil was even talking, although they couldnt make out what he was saying, so it is not just my hearing problem. I will be getting new and hopefully better hearing aids on the 27th so I hope I can hear people a bit better.

Huia, we had our house re-wired some years ago, and the electrician persuaded us to install a wired-in smoke detector, saying it was better and safer.


How I wish that we had not agreed!

Yes, it saves having to replace batteries, and getting that annoying warning beep

BUT ........ it has been wired into the same circuit that has our bedside lights and alarm clock radios.

It does not have a turn off switch on it, so if it goes off, someone has to go down to the fuse box, and remove the fuse.


Every now and again it goes off for no reason


every time we remove the fuse, and then replace it ............. we have to re-set the clock radios


We now no longer grill any food, because that always set it off!

In fact, I think the battery alarms were safer, because they will continue to work even if the electricity has been cut off for some reason.


I think the very worst though was the night the phone started ringing .............. and ringing ............. and ringing


There was no-one on the other end, we could not phone out, leaving the handset off made no difference, it still continued to ring


OH went to a neigbour's to phone the company .............. of course, no-one could come out! It was Sunday evening!

And, just our luck, the phone was in our bedroom :((

We managed to extend the cord into the hallway, away from our bedroom door, and we covered the phone with cushions, thus reducing the noise to a very low level.


It turned out that a switch in a small sub-station had got stuck in the wrong position.

How annoying that would have been, Sylvia. At least the peeping was not too loud as I am a bit hard of hearing and dont wear the hearing aids in bed (they would squeal if I did), and I had the bedroom door shut and it was the alarm at the other end of the house anyway.

Thanks for warning me not to get the wired ones, anyway. I will put the new battery in when I get home this afternoon, then I can put the ladder away.

Sylvia, that phone must have driven you MAD!! I bet that you felt like taking a hammer to it. Well, that it how I would have felt.

So sorry to hear that so many of you have been feeling unwell and or undergoing treatment of some kind.

Now that I know how old some of you are, I feel like a stripling. I am only 62
So I should stopmy moaning and get on with living.


The one trouble I have in not believing in any kind of Deity is that when I wake in the morning and am well enough to get out of bed, I have no-one to give thanks to.

I feel that I have a lot to be thankful for, a lovely family, good friends, I still have all my facilities (even if some of them are a bit ropey at times0. I have a bed to sleep in, a (non-leaking) roof over my head, and plenty of food in my belly... What more could I need?

The workmen are now here, sorting out my fence and back gate. So I will soon feel a lot more secure and private.

I even won a little raffle on Thursday evening - They call it a half-and-half. Half the money raised goes to funds and the other half is the prize. So I am now ten pounds better off. Perhaps I will buy something for the garden.


On Wednesday I am going to have a facial (Massage) at the local college. Haven't had one for ages and looking forward to it. It will be done by a first year student and hopefully will help her to complete all the "required elements".

Just made the workmen another cup of tea (their second) so will soon be having one myself too. A cup of earl Grey goes down nicely.

Tess, I am sure that you just give general thanks for your health and being secure and well fed in your home. Somebody/something somewhere will hear.
