lol Tabitha.

In the same garden (not that we do) you can grow lemons, grapefruit, oranges, apples plums, apricots etc.

We do have a lemon tree and grapefruit bush and we have also planted a mandarin tree but no fruit from that so far. We did have a grafted apple tree and a plum tree but took them out as they required too much attention. Also we are too close to the sea so the wins carry a fair amount of salt.

50 kms south is the town and area of Donnybrook, which is a major Apple and soft fruit grownig area, and 40 kms north is Harvey which is a Citrus area.

My maternal gramps had a huge garden ,with many apple trees.. cooking and eating , plums and many other veg, my aunt tells me that they never bought veg or fruit cos their dad grew it all.
I remember the garden very well, but it was becoming a a bit overgrown when gramps died. It was so large he couldn't manage it at his age.
When the property was sold , the garden which not 'attached' to the house but across the road now has 2 lovely bungalows on it.
The house is now I think 5 or more flats.
Marvellous property for someone to develop...which they did.
Dad ' maintained 'it until it was sold , none of the family wanted to buy it :-( Tho I can understand , unless they were property developers, which they weren't. they all had their own houses and were settled else where.

Hi All

Sandie, we've always had a vegie garden and grown fruit. In the UK we had a Bramley's Apple Tree and also a James Grieve Aplle tree, together with a Victoria plum Bush. We also had a couple of Gooseberry bushes.

We can't buy Gooseberries in WA, or at least, I've never seen them on sale

Celeriac

I live in S E Wales . U K. and it can be very cold.
Gramps and my parents lived in the same village about 6 miles east and a lot lower than where we live, despite that we get a good crop of veg and fruit. Dad's garden wasn't quite as big as gramps but he grew most of our veg and fruit.

Hello all

Quinsgran, we have just picked and frozen two Kgs of bradbeans and there are still plenty more to go. We have a small grape vine that we planted last year, but relocated this year. Turnips and beetroot also did exceptionally well as did the Kale and Silverbeet.

Tabitha, it might sound exotic but even warm climates have their drawbacks, particularly WA where there has been a drought for the last few years. This year rainfall is nearly back to average, but all our dams are very low, less than 30% capacity so water restrictions will again be in force!
