jax

jax Report 14 Jul 2010 00:37

My Taylors are on both sides of my mums family luckerly no Smiths.

The only uncommon name I have is my maiden name, put my name in on ancestry and only two entries found my birth and marriage

Taylors are not mine, they're in OH's lines

mine include Schofield ...... another common name in Lancashire and Yorkshire! and some of the earliest ones that I've found changed from Scholefield.

and then there's Cotterell/Cottrell/Cotterill/Cottrill ...... and any other spellings yet to be found!

You're lucky with an uncommon name ja...x

actually, I've been lucky with my maiden name Cadd ............. 1 family emigrated from a small village in Buckinghamshire to Australia in mid-1840, followed by his niece and nephew and families in mid-1850, then some of the 1850s emigrants moved on to California. This means there are lots of them in both countries ........... and the US descendents have done an incredible amount of work on the family, work that was underpinned by stuff that my own second cousin did back in the 1980s

So there are 3 or 4 full trees on rootsweb, all done back to 1720 to the Cadd who sprang up fully grown from the earth, and then back to about 1540 for the woman who married him.

I have a 24 page booklet that my second cousin put together in about 1994 or so ....... and everything that he found so painstakingly by visiitng record offices, churches, etc, is being confirmed as more and more records come on the internet.
