Isn't that just the worst part of clock changes power cuts etc Sylvia, re-setting all the clocks? Glad it didn't last too long anyway.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 17 Jan 2011 21:50

yes Ann

just long enough for all the appliances and everything to have to be re-set!

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 18 Jan 2011 19:28

Good evening ladies.

Back from my good deeds for the day, new mummy and baby minding, whilst Roly and son took son's car in for repair.
Little Lilly is not feeding very well. She's being fed every six hours, and then it's a job to get her to even drink that.
The midwife phoned today, not visited, as she's supposed to do. My son mentioned that baby was not taking her milk, and her attitude was, " Well she will take it when she's hungry," but that does not stop mummy and daddy from worrying.
She's a crafty little thing, when the bottle is put into her mouth, she just opens her mouth wider, so that she doesn't have to drink it.
They have given her a dummy today, something they didn't want to do, to try to teach her to suck. And surprise surprise, she started sucking well on it. Lets hope now she gets the message, and takes her milk.
She is such a lovely little mite, and very much like my sons eldest son.

Ahhhh Sylvia a lovely romantic evening, by candle light and torch lol.
We are lucky, in as much as if we have a power out, we do have gas for our hob,and can make hot drinks that way.
And as for having to re-set the clocks, just imagine how we feel, when our clocks go forwards and back, twice a year, it's a real pain in the bum.
Do your clocks change twice yearly as ours do, or is your time constant.

Ann whats your weather been like today.? Ours has been glorious. But this evening, as we were late getting back from our sons house, we decided to get a take-away, and whilst waiting for it, a gritting lorry went past, griiting the main road. Please don't tell me we are going to be getting more bad weather.

I wonder how our cyber friends are, only it's been a while since we have heard from them. Love to you all. and take care of yourselves.

Hopefully tomorrow, we will get time to do some of our own shopping, instead of having to run around like blue ar*ed flies.

Bye for now girls, love to all. Mo xxx

Huia Report 18 Jan 2011 19:42

Hi there all.

Yesterday I went to town for a little bit of shopping. The weather was a bit doubtful, in fact a few spits of rain. Just after I arrived home the rain started in earnest. And the wind became extremely strong. Chloe the cat is still not coming inside. I did leave the front door open a bit, after removing the mat with the flea powder on and sweeping the foyer. I then shut the foyer door so she could at least come in there out of the cold and rain but she preferred to sleep on the porch just outside so I put an old woollen dress down for her.

The wind seems to have eased off. I might try to get a doctors appointment today or tomorrow to have my weird skintags/moles/whatever looked at.

Huia.

Mo in Kent Report 18 Jan 2011 20:31

Huia, please make sure you do go and see the doctor about your tags/moles or whatever, to make sure they are safe.
Poor Chloe, she's feeling left out, after the rats took over, bless her.
I have sent you the photo of my new grandaughter Huia.

Little Lily is beautiful Mo, thank you for the photo. I always think i wouldn't like to have that horrible rubber teat stuck in my mouth. I think they take a while to get used to it.

Mo in Kent Report 18 Jan 2011 22:03

Ann, in desperation S put her to the breast this morning, but she still wouldn't suck.
I think she's going to be a stubborn little thing, just like her dad and mum.lol

Hi everyone

the weather is cooling down again here ........ around 5C daytime instead of the 10 or 12C it has been!

Mo ........ we change our clocks twice a year just as you do, but we only have about 4 month "winter" and 8 months Daylight Savings

This year, our clocks will go forward on March 13, and then back on November 6

But we don't usually have to re-enter all the other information, like the date, pre-set radio stations, etc etc etc

on the TV, we even had to re-set the LANGUAGE!

Being officially a bilingual country (French and English), we had to choose which language option!

Then there was the answer machine, which needed a new message recording

Mo I think it is bad that the midwife didn't call when baby is so young.

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 18 Jan 2011 22:24

I know Ann, especially as mum had split during the birth, and would not have stitches silly girl. It seems now that she may have a small infection in the wound.
I thought they had to also check where the umbilical (sp) cord had been cut, to ensure there was no infection in that as well.
But things have changed so much, you wouldn't believe.
They are not allowed to make the bottles up in advance, and store in the fridge until needed, they have to be made fresh, and mostly drunk cold.

Thanks for explaining about the clocks Sylvia. Ours change in April I think, and then again in October, but then you would probably remember that, stupid me.

Hi all

Sorry to hear littlie is being fussy about feeding.

That midwife should have visited!!

Interesting day today

OH was at the dentist for a marathon session. He had another appointment at 1 pm, and about 11 am the dentist's receptionist phoned and asked if I could see if that appointment could be moved back to 2 pm ....... she gave a phone number and hoped it was correct because it was the best she could do "through all the hands in OH's mouth" as he gave it to her

I spent about 2 hours this evening planning our summer trip.

The society we both belong to has its annual meeting in NS in July ......... we used to attend every year, but have missed the last 2 years for various reasons. However, we really do feel that we should attend this one ....... combining it with a visit to the family of course!

J said they would prefer we stayed with them before the meeting rather than afterward.

So I have now presented her with an option of us arriving by plane, staying with them for about 9 days, moving to the university residence for the meeting, and then leaving by train the day after the meeting ends. Alternate dates would be arriving 1 or 2 days later.

As soon as she lets me know whether the dates fit for them, I'll email the information to OH, and he'll get our travel agent to work making the reservations. Somehow, Alvin often finds cheaper deals than I do!

And I always think of the Chipmunks when I say his name!!!!

We're going to splurge, and travel Executive Class on the plane. I did make the interesting discovery that Economy Class fares vary depending on the day of the week, and the time of day, but the two Executive Class fares never change! We're looking at the cheaper of the 2 fares ..... which is non-refundable. I don't see paying almost double just for the ability to make changes without paying extra! We'll take out travel insurance instead!

Tomorrow I have to go to see the retinologist to see if there is anyhting wrong with the retinas ... or if I just have itneresting eyes as the optician said back in November!

Take care everyone

Hi Mo and girls, just a quickie before I close down. I haven't been on Genes for a while as my legs gave up on me on Saturday, just couldn't stand up or walk and spent the weekend in bed, a bit scary. I've been catching up on the threads but they don't move as quickly as they used to. I hope everyone is ok, Jean is still getting the vertigo attacks so doesn't use computer much, I think it was Dutch who told me Sallie wasn't well, if you see this Sallie I hope you are soon on the mend.
Mo your granddaughter is beautiful, I got a surprise when I checked my e-mails Marie had sent me her photo, bet you are proud as punch.
Been called for my tea so must go.

Love Caz xx

Mo in Kent Report 19 Jan 2011 21:29

Caz ,I am sorry to hear you have had a bad few days. It must have been very frightening for you love.
I hope you have had a better day today.

I agree the threads don't move very fast these days, but it makes it a bit easier to catch up on whats been going on. LOL.

Sylvia, I hope you get on o.k tomorrow at the retinologists.
Travelling executive class will be a real treat for you both. Luxury on all levels.
I hope your OH got on alright at the dentists. Has he got much more to be done.?

We have had new mum, son and baby here for most of the day.
The midwife turned up this morning, and is very pleased with both mum and baby. But she will not be back again till Friday.
Apparantly, they only make visits every other day now. I suppose it comes down to costs again.
It was good to see little mummy actually eating for a change. She has had such a bad time during her pregnancy, and was quite sick after eating during the term of her pregnancy.
It's not so surprising actually, that baby is not a very good feeder is it.

Oh I forgot to tell you, we lost at darts on monday. 4-2 and 2-1, my partner Eve and I were the only ones to win our game thank goodness.

I hope that all our friends who have not been very well, will soon feel better.

Well girls I must say goodnight god bless. Love to you all. Moxxx

Pleased to hear that Mum and Babe got a thumbs up from midwife Mo. Hope babe starts to take more food soon, I think the first few days they don't worry too much about them until they settle down. Must be a shock being thrown out into the world mustn't it?

Sorry you didn't do too well at darts but well done to you and your partner for winning.

Caz, I am sorry you have had a problem with your legs, must be very scary for you. Can you manage a laptop in bed to keep the boredom at bay?

Sylvia, hope the retina check goes ok for you.

We have one holiday all booked up now, our month in Tenerife in April, flight was booked before christmas, now we have booked an overnight stay at a hotel the day before and the long term car parking. Sadly flying economy and via Madrid so fingers crossed for no strikes in Heathrow or Madrid.

Jean, hope you are getting on ok and that the medication is helping the vertigo. Wonder what is causing it, they seem to be treating the symptom, have they looked for the cause?

I hadn't realised that Sallie was poorly, I thought that she was away visiting her son for a few days. Hope you are ok Sallie.

SylviaInCanada Report 20 Jan 2011 01:03

Hi all

Mo ........ glad to hear that mum & baby are doing well. I was quite surprised with some of the things J said and did after MJ was born last year .... very different from my day!!

Sorry you didn't get on too well at darts.

OH has at least a couple more months before his mouth will be complete ............. by then he'll have had all crowns replaced, and several implants done. He thinks it will be worth it.

I got on well at the retinologist's ................ it was a long visit, as I didn't even get in to see the technician to be given 3 sets of eyedrops until 50 minutes after the appointment time. In fact OH arrived just about 5 minutes later, all ready to take me home!! Had to wait another 45 minutes or so to see the specialist

Anyway, he said my eyes are fine, he didn't see any need to carry out any treatment. He was very pleased with how well the cataract operations had turned out ... I had them done in 2001, and he'd referred me to the other doctor.

I asked what my optician could have meant when she said I had "interesting eyes" back in November .............. and he just gave a little laugh and said "well, they are a little unusual"!!! Anyway, it's nice to know that whatever she saw is not serious!!!

Caz ........ hope you are feeling better. It must have been a shock for you.

Ann ....... we travel Executive when we can because I just cannot take long hours in a cramped seat ....... I have to be able to stretch my hip out and wiggle around or I am almost crippled for days.

It will be almost 7 hours on the plane for us ............ only 2 hours shorter than for us to get to London UK! It's one reason why we prefer to travel by train .......... plus we get food in Executive class and you no longer get fed on domestic flights, even these long-haul ones!

There is another airline that we could use to get to NS, and we flew with them last April. They only have Economy Class, but the seats are leather and are a little bigger than the national airline we're using this time, so it was a fairly comfortable flight. But it did take me a couple of days to get my hip and leg back to relatively pain-free.

To be honest, one reason for not using them this time is that I now know the sleeping arrangements we'll have at J&M's, they're different from last April, and I'd rather arrive as pain-free as possible to give me a head-start!

Another plus to taking Exectuive Class is that we save points with that airline, and get 50% more points (over whatever the base number is) for the flight ....... we're trying to save points and money with the idea of another trip to Australia, possibly next year. We had thought this year, but then changed our minds.

must go and start dinner

Congrats Mo on the granddaughter.

Sylvia, what is so special about Australia? They have floods and fires and droughts there. We wont mention the earthquakes we have in NZ though. Another fairly big aftershock in Christchurch area yesterday.

Must get my dinner now.

Love to all.

ps Mo, I have an appointment with the doc for tomorrow to get my 'things' checked out. I hope a lot of them can be removed as they are ugly and tend to get in the way when I want to scratch!

Good Morning/Evening ladies, I hope you are all well.
I am sorry to read on here that Sallie is poorly. As you know, I met for coffee with Sallie a couple of weeks ago, and, apart from her depression, did not say she was feeling poorly, or show any outward signs
I read on here, the same as everyone, that she and her OH had gone down to her son Richard's for a few days, so I am now surprised to read this news.
We did not exchange addresses or phone numbers, though we only live about four miles apart, so I have no other contact with here, apart from on here.
I do hope it is nothing serious, and that she will be back on this thread soon. Get well soon Sallie

Hi Ladies,

Just a quick reply to everyone, before I go to the surgery to see what the doctor has decided what he's going to do about the medication I'm taking
for depression. Three weeks ago when I seen him he wasn't sure if it would be best to change it or not. So hopefully he has made up his mind when I see him at 6.30p.m.

Alun, Jennie and I have been down to Richard's for a couple of days, as he had a couple of days off work, so we had a nice two days with him and Christie. We enjoyed a few hours at Windsor, both Jennie and I love to go to the shops there when we go down, we also love going into Daniels store to their coffee shop. Jennie loves their tuna mayo baquettes, and I like their pots of tea.
The weather was lovely and bright, but there was a bit of a chilly wind.

I must get ready to go to the surgery now, so I'll speak to you all later on.

Love, Sallie.xxx
