Apart from your pain clinic appointment, February is full of painful memories for you.

I didn't know of the after shock that hit Christchurch, was there any damage done, or was it just a small quake.

Marie, it must be something to do with the time of year, making so many of us feel depressed or so worn out, that all we want to do is sleep.
I bet the water aerobics soon woke you up though.
How are all the family doing now. Has your grandson settled down at university.
And your daughter, are her meds keeping her problems at bay.
I can't believe that Rockhampton have suffered another flash flood. When the heck is all this going to stop.
You are supposed to be nearing your summer months now arn't you.

I am pleased everything went well with the retinologist Sylvia. I think I would have been spitting feathers having to wait that long. But at least you know all is well.
I bet the optician when reffering to your "interesting eyes ",meant that they had healed very well after your cataract operation, and probably showed no signs of being operated on.
Or else they were friendly eyes, and you were cross eyed at the time.lol

Someone send a message to Tenerife, warning that Ann and T are on their way again for a whole month.
Oh you lucky girl Ann, a whole month of rest, relaxation, and sunshine.
We will have to storm Heathrow Airport, if they go on strike, and get you both on the plane ourselves. Sorry about the return journey, you will have to stay there a bit longer if they do strike, ahhhh that would be a shame wouldn't it, not.Just make sure you buy yourselves a tent to take with you, just in case you do get stranded over there. LOL

Hopefully Julia, when Sallie feels a bit more like her old self, you will be able to meet again for another coffee.

Sallie honey, please let us know how you get on at the doctors. Obviously the tablets the doctor gave you, have not helped to solve your problems.
A good friend of mine, lost her husband last October, and she was not coping very well at all.
Her G.P put her on Prozac, and all they did was make her even worse.
After much nagging from us her friends, she went back to see the doctor and she was prescribed Citalaphram, and now she is a completely different woman, and is coping very well.
I am not suggesting that your G.P should put you onto the same tablets, I am just trying to explain how different tablets can help, and it's not always the first tablets they prescribe that could help the situation, but a case of suck it and see,in many cases.

Jeannnnnnnn how are you my lovely lady. We miss you, and can't wait for you to feel up to posting again.

Hi again Ladies,

I got on okay at the doctors, both the doctor and myself have decided that I will slowly start to come off my tablets. Over the time I've been taking them I have put on quite a bit of weight, and although that isn't the reason for my depression, it isn't helping either. He also feels that as I now know the reason, he thinks and I agree with him, that the tablets won't resolve anything. So I have come to find out one or two things and come to terms with them so that hopefully I can move on and depression will be the thing of the past. So I suppose time will tell, but as the doctor said that he is there for me and that I can ring and ask to speak to him, and if he isn't in the surgery at the time, he will ring me back.

Also asked about a hearing test, no problem with that, I just have to pick some papers up from the surgery after 4.o clock tomorrow. Not exactly sure what happens after that or when I'll actually have the test.


Joyce rang me tonight as she had got mixed up with someone else that is poorly, so was sorry for the mix up.
She sounded a lot better, but is still suffering quite badly from cramp.


Mo, hope your new granddaughter is feeding alright now. Like you and a couple of our friends on here, I cant get over that the midwife doesn't call much at all now. When Laura had Gracie last May, the midwife only called once, I think that even Laura was a bit shocked, because when she had Chloe eight years ago, the midwife called every day then.

I saw the doc this morning. She thinks there is nothing to worry about with my lumps and bumps etc, although she did suggest that when I see the dermatologist (hopefully the appointment will come through soon) he might want to dig out a couple of the things on my back. The surgery nurse did freeze a couple of things on my front. I would like to have a lot more of the ugly things removed, but I will wait until I see the dermatologist. My skin is very dry, probably because of all the hydrocortisone cream I used last year, so she has prescribed some Aqueous cream to use as a soap substitute in the shower, 4 big jars of it, not that I have used soap for many years as I know it dries the skin, but this will hopefully help moisturise thse skin, along with the various skin lotions that I try to remember to apply several times a day.

I visited Phil afterwards. He wasnt all that responsive. Last time I saw him I heard him say what sounded like b*gg*r off. I asked him if he wanted me to b*gg*r off and he said you might as well. Charming. But I didnt. One man who walks around a lot, talking to himself, does a lot of swearing, when he isnt pulling his trousers down as he did again today!

The earthquake in Christchurch yesterday was 5.1, followed by three smaller ones over the next 4 hours. There was a bit of damage, but not as much as the original one last year. They can expect a lot more quakes. When Phil and I were in Chch a few years ago we felt one but I think it was only about mag 3.

I am on Citalopram, Mo. The doc today said it wont do any harm to keep taking them (I take only half a tab each day). It seems to quell the restless legs I often get at night that stop me from sleeping. I have also come to the conclusion that they quell my sneezing attacks. The attacks are random, not hayfever or I would be sneezing constantly in the season, but when I have an attack I can sneeze 30 times in a row, not good for the throat. I had stopped taking the Citalopram for a week and had a sneezing attack at the end of it, admittedly only 10 times on that occasion, but that is when I decided the tabs were preventing the attacks. Perhaps I need to see an ENT specialist, but if the Cital. works on these things and doesnt do any harm, then why not keep using them?

I must start tying up bundles of newspapers etc for tomorrow mornings recycling (once a month), and sort out tins and plastic recyclables. Then it will be time to think about dinner.

Sallie, you are so lucky to have such an understanding doctor. How nice that you can ring him whenever you need to chat to him.
Has the appointment for your therapist come through yet. I do hope so, as she was such a help to you last time.
It's good to hear that you can get your ear test done, even if you do have to wait a few weeks for it.
Sallie, our little minx, is getting her apetite now, thank the lord. She was fed at 6.30 last night, by S's grandmother, but baby didn't want it all, but 1hour later,she was screaming out for more. Little but often, is my way of thinking till she gets herself into a feeding routine.

Thank goodness Huia, that the skin tags are o.k.
Oh my word, I don't think they will literally dig out the moles on your back love, but if they do it as my specialist did, they froze it first, then cut it out.
It's not as bad as what it sounds, so don't worry your little ole self about it.
Aqueous cream and lotion is excellent for really dry skin, so should help you greatly.
Your Phil is a cheeky Bu**er, telling you to B of like that. But I bet he was going through one of his vacant periods, and didn't mean what he said to you.
Huia, I have been on Citalophram for years now, just a low dosage, but it helps by making my brain shut the pain out, giving me a chance to lead a normal life.

Can't get warm here today (it was -.5) outside at 11.30am this morning, not that cold but the house hasn't warmed up.

Pleased to hear little one is starting to feed better now Mo, there will be no stopping her now.

Hope your hearing test comes through soon Sallie, that in itself would make you feel better, it is miserable if you can't hear properly. anyway, glad you had a good doctors appointment and got things on the way to being sotred.

I have sneezing fits for no reason, as does my sister, and so did my father. Annoying isn't it? My father always had lots of nose bleeds, fortunately I have never so far suffered with those.

I had a hospital appointment yesterday to check out the patch on my leg that was a suspect rodent ulcer (you may remember I had two before then had a cream to treat two more last August, one disappeared and this one almost did.) Well the consultany has decided to leave it for a year unless I notice anything happening with it. He thinks it is dormant now and nothing to worry about. So that was good.

Ann, it's good to know that I'm not the only one that can't get warm today, Alun has just said that it was -6 here late morning, so no wonder we can't get warm.

Pleased that things went well for you at the hospital yesterday and that you know if the patch changes in any way, you can go back to see the Consultant.


Huia, I hope that the cream that the doctor gave you will heip, and pleased to know that the doctor doesn't think that the tags are anything to worry about.

Mo, so pleased that the baby is starting to feed, I'm sure she'll come along in leaps and bounds, now.

I'm not going back to see the therapist, as I told the doctor, I think that I now need to resolve a few things myself, as I know what caused the depression, and it wouldn't be fair if another patient needed the therapist more than I do. So he agreed with me, but if I go "down hill" again, he would refer back to them.

Both Alun and I get on well with the doctor and have never had any trouble with him, although some people don't like him very much. There again, there are some doctors in the practice that we are not keen on.

Hopefully, it won't be too long before I have a hearing test, it's really miserable not being able to hear clearly. I'm sure it sapped my confidence so much that maybe that was part of the reason I didn't want to go out on my own.



We are having trouble with our e-mails, it seems as though we can send them out, but can't receive any...it was two weeks ago that we received any, so if any of you have sent any, please don't think that I'm ignoring you, it's just that we haven't had them.


Jean, how are things with you? I hope that your vertigo is not as bad as it's been.
Also hope that J and D are both alright.


Marie, hope all goes well when you go for your yearly "check up" at the end of the month.

Thank goodness, we have some good news. This is the type of reading I like.
Ann, I am sooo pleased that the patch on your leg turned to be good news.
Those rodent ulcers are awful arn't they. My mum had to have one cut out from the temple area of her face.
As we all know, there is not much flesh in that area, and it took ages for it to heal.
I can't believe how both, yours and Sallie's temperature, have been so low today.
We have had a beautiful, sunny day here, and not that cold either.
But this evening the temperature has started to fall. So much so, that Roly has put the central heating on, without my having to ask.

Sallie, not being able to hear very well, may well have sapped your confidence. But after the hearing test, if they give you the aids, you will then be in a different world altogether.
Roly found things very noisy, when he had his fitted,as he had got used to the silence and at the time didn't realise his hearing was fading.
But he won't wear the darned thing now, so I am back to shouting at him,and having my ears blasted by the t.v as he cant hear it.
So thats a hearing aid he wont wear, and teeth that hurt him so he wont wear them either.
Still I wouldn't swap him for a newer model.

Hello all, I haven't much time so I will keep it short, it was me that put on here that poor Sallie was poorly, Joyce told me she was and I wanted Sallie to know I was thinking of her. I haven't been on much because my back is so painful if I try to sit, I'm back to only being comfortable lying flat. Can't remember who it was that said they hope my legs get better soon, but they will only get worse, I have nerve damage in my spinal chord to the nerves that go to my legs, in time I will be in my wheelchair permanently, I've known for a long time it was coming but it scared me last weekend. Thanks you for your concern but I live with it as best I can and as Joyce says can laugh about it and the silly things they make me do.
Huia at least Phil spoke to you when he swore, it must be nice to see him awake when you visit.
Oh hubby has arrived so must go, thought I would have more time.
I'm not ignoring you all and hope everyone is keeping well.
Sallie I tried to do two cards last night but couldn't settle with the pain in my back, so I have one done and one half done, I got a new cuttlebug this morning so going to have some fun when I feel up to it.

Sallie, the hearing problem can be so 'isolating'. I have a slight hearing problem and have hearing aids, but like Mo's OH I dont wear them all the time. I know it is naughty of me, but they dont sit properly behind my ears with my glasses, even though I had been assured that they would. My ears are very close to my head, not red sails in the sunset, such as some people have. When Phil was still at home I would wear one to watch TV but left the 'behind the ear' part dangling out sideways. Now Phil isnt here I just turn the TV up.

They dont work on the phone either and I find with that some people seem very muffled, although not all. Perhaps it is their phones that muffle things. As for the answer phone, that is very difficult to hear, even with the hearing aid in. In fact my son could not understand one message I asked him to listen to. Another things is that the batteries seem to fail at crucial moments and I dont want to ask people to hold on while I change the battery. It is such a fiddly business.

I have been talking of applying for a special phone system where a third person listens in and types the replies to me so that I can read it. I think I need a docs cert to apply for it though.

Must go, have to take recycling stuff to Hunua before midday and I am not even dressed yet as I slept in this morning.

Sallie I came off the anti depre tabs, and felt better for it more in control,
the vertigo is at lull at the moment hope it stays that way, been very nasty for a while. but I actually made some muffins, and didnt fall over....I also finished the album and hvent been in my craft room for three days, but I am getting itchy feet and fingers so maybe tomorrow....hope your lot are ok.

I so hope that bloomin Vertigo, leaves you alone now,and lets you get back to normal.

If you've got itchy feet, scratch them. Failing that, take it slowly doing your crafting, just a little at a time,and hopefully it will keep the vertigo at bay.

My lot are o.k. Apart from my son, who has had to go to the dentist today.
He's had no sleep for two nights with a raging toothache. He's got an infection in his gum, but insisted that the dentist did some work on his tooth,as well.
Stupid idiot, she gave him the injection in his gum,and started to remove the nerve. The injection had not worked, he shot out of the chair screaming in pain.
She has managed to get half of the nerve out, but he has to go back on monday, to have the rest removed.
I dread to think how much pain he will be in, when his gum comes back to life.
If only he had gone to the dentist before Christmas, when the pain started.
But he wouldn't listen.

Had some bad news last night ...... my friend who developed a glioma before Christmas, died peacefully earlier on Thursday evening.


Huia ... I have had skin tages for many many years. They used to call them stalked moles, and one doctor I had back around 1970 said some people had lots of them, others didn't, and that they often appear suddenly, several at a time.

They are not usually harmful, and can be frozen off, although now that is not covered by our medical service .... unless they are causing a problem, such as under a bra strap or where they might catch on clothes (eg, neck).

I've had several of them removed over the years ............... they're usually frozen with liquid nitrogen and then drop off after several days.


Dr Scholls has also put out a treatment for them .... it 's a little bottle that does about 8 applications, and costs around $35 Canadian ... google "Dr Scholl's Skin Tag Remover". it does come with a lot of warnings.

OR, you can tie a piece of cotton or dental floss around the stalk ....... only that is really finicky!


If the doctor removes anything from your back, do be aware that things heal more slowly on you back because there is relatively little flesh there.

I had a suspect mole removed a couple of years ago. The stitches were left in for 2 weeks, that's twice as long as for other areas. Then the wound split open as I got into bed the evening after the stitches were removed ... I didn't move quite as cautiously as I had been doing. I got to the doctor the next morning, but there was already an infection in there. I had 6 weeks of regular visits to the doctor, and OH dressing the wound every day before it healed.

My sister-in-law had a rodent ulcer taken off the side of her leg 18mths ago. She wasn't too bothered about it at first, as she had had shingles the year before so thought that it was something from that. Her daughter(my niece) who is a nurse looked at it and told her to go and see the doctor as she felt sure that it was a rodent ulcer. Of course she was right, but I don't think Sylvia would have bothered about it, until perhaps it would have been too late.


Caz, I think like Mo I might have said that I hoped your legs were better, but what I meant as I'm sure Mo did, that you were not having too much trouble has you had been having. I'm sorry if I was a bit insensitive asking you that, it wasn't meant to be.

Well, you managed to do a card and get half way through another one, as you say you might be able to do some more tomorrow.

I've just realised something, most of my life I've always tended to pick the skin around my finger nails, except for the last 12years, the amount of time that I've suffered from depresssion. Over the last week I've come to realise that I've started doing it again, and during this time I've, I started to do something about trying to resolve the reason for my depression, not sure if it has some bearing on it, but it seems such a coincidence.

Huia, I'm looking forward to being able to hear people clearly again. The hearing aid that I paid so much money for hasn't helped me very much at all, as far as Alun and I are concerned it was a total waste of money. I certainly wouldn't recommend going private for a hearing test or hearing aid.
Maybe I was just unlucky, but I deffinitely wouldn't buy one again.

Like you, I wear glasses so hope that I'll be ok with the piece behind my ear.


Sylvia, sorry to hear about your friend, but she's at peace now and not suffering anymore.

It sounds as though you had a bad six weeks after you had the mole removed and the stitches out a couple of years ago. I'm sure it must have been very worrying for both you and OH.

Such a lot of news Firstly Citalopram, I have been on this for a number of years.
I call it my happy pill it has made a large difference to my life I don't have any side effects .It has controlled my Irritability, negativity and my depression. I wouldn't be without it, I live a much happier life because of it.
I also wear a hearing aid, it has made some difference, I was born with some loss of hearing in my left ear and as I get older it will get worse and I may end up deaf in that ear, but for now the hearing aid does help.

It does get a bit sore when I have to wear my glasses for several hours like when I use the computer for a long time but once I take the glasses off it is OK after awhile.
Skin Tags, I also have them I have had some of them removed at different times I get them around my neck and when it is hot at night and I perspire they become itchy at the moment they are too small to have them removed.
My doctor injects a small amount of anesthesia under the skin of each one then cuts it off.
She then uses a laser to stop the bleeding,.it is a bit sore for about a week. Medicare cover the cost.

In Australia our hearing tests are covered by the Government and they also subsidise the cost of the Hearing Aid, I pay $35 a year to the company and they supply me with as many batteries as I need , they also Service the
aid and I have a hearing test every 2 nd year,,this is also covered by the Gov.This is one of the many services a pensioner's entitled to in our country.
Floods: My Brother Neville also Sister Carmel are back in their home and are very happy to be there .

Many people in Victoria are now in shelter as their homes are inundated. Once the waters get to the Great Murray river these smaller rivers should recede to there normal levels.and people will be able to pick up there lives once more, with a lot of help from neighbours friends & volunteer's & our armed forces, who will be working for many month's to come.

God Bless them all, the work they have done in the last 8 weeks has been amazing.

I had a rude awakening this morning. After having trouble getting to sleep last night I was finally sleeping and at 7 a.m. I was woken by a male voice calling out. I staggered out of bed saying I'm coming. Threw on my dressing gown and slippers and when I opened my bedroom door there was a man in the passage. As all the doors were locked I wondered how he got in, then realised it was my son. They had gone over to the valley last night in their campervan, but it rained all night and he was worried that slips might come down on the road and block them in, so they came over early. He had tooted his horn as he came up the drive but I didnt hear him and I didnt hear him opening the garage roller door. They stayed for 3 hours and have now gone home, to Rotorua. This rain has certainly cooled things down, I think I need to change my board name again.
