Mo in Kent Report 25 Jan 2011 19:03

Hello girls,just a quickie.

So if you dont hear from me, you will know I am thinking of you all.
Love to you all Mo xxx

Hi everyone

the heavy rain of yesterday has eased off ......... it's now classed as "drizzle"

still looks pretty wet out there though!

Mo ....... congratulations on the darts!

Mo ............... it was not in a garage.

The study was part of an extension we did, and was built on "stilts", leaving an open area beneath it. The side next to the street has wood latticing over it, the side facing south has a flower bed, plants, a couple of small shrubs, then the lawn and veggie garden before the fence and back lane. The west facing side is open to the carport ...... which itself is open to the garden and then the back lane. They are both attached to the house on the north side.

So they didn't have to "break in" ...... which is a sticking point as far as the police are concerned, and why they wouldn't come round immediately yesterday.

The police also won't do anything until we can give them the model number, and any other identifying features.

OH is going to phone the company we bought it from, hopefully later today (he's in the dentist's chair again at the moment). That company is up near where we have the cabin ...... and we're hoping that they keep computer records!

He will also have another search through "cabin" boxes in the basement that we brought back last September ...... the problem there is that he has been beavering away for the last 5 or 6 months sorting out and clearing out ..........................................

We're waiting to see the insurance company adjustor ........ he and OH are playing phone tag at the moment!

Will be making shepherd's pie for dinner tonight ............ OH is having another 3-4 hours in "the" chair this morning! Soft food will be preferable to chewing meat!

Take care everyone

Sylvia, that is the stuff of nightmares, 3-4 hours in the dentists chair. Not sure I could stand it for that long.

Wonder how Mo caught the virus on her laptop? Hope you get it fixed soon Mo.

I was wondering how Debbie is, has anyone heard anything from her lately?

AnninGlos Report 25 Jan 2011 20:42

Jean the back is easier thanks, it is always with me to a certain extant but occasionally it is worse. Not so bad now anyway. A week in Llandudno is just what you need isn't it? I do hope the vertigo stays away.

My last mowing man (a friend of my son) has now got a full time job. The new one looked at my lawn on Monday and I got the impression he would be coming yesterday or today so I have kept off the internet in case he phoned, but not a peep from him. If he hasnt phoned by midday tomorrow I will go to town to visit Phil and do some shopping. At least my jungle is not too tall yet. I can still see through it and avoid any lions or tigers.

Hello girls.
Oh boy, I am a right ignoramous where computers are concerned.
I took my laptop to the repair man, who took ages to sort it out. Apparantly
Yahoo tools was causing the problems, but fortunately it was not a virus.
I bought the lappy home, and thought I had better check my e.mails.
I switched on and,HUH whats going on here then, not my home page, but MSN. Right how do I get my mail from here, thicko me had no idea. Wheres my home page gone to, how do I get it back.
Well to cut a long story short, I managed, and got into my e.mail eventually.
Right next LOG INTO mail, hum whats my pass word.
Do you think I could remember it, NO. So I had to set it all up again.
I just hope and pray it does not go wrong again in a hurry.
We are both as thick as two short planks, where computers are concerned

Huia, just make sure you take the double barrel shot gun outside with you,
just in case there is a predator out in the garden.
Has your cat come back into the house yet?

Sylvia, surely as you didn't invite the burglars in, they broke into your home.
The law can be a complete ass at times.
Have you had any luck on the generator model number yet.
I do hope your OH's mouth is feeling a little better now. 4 hours sitting in one place is a very long time. Especially having to keep your mouth open for that long.

Ann we have not heard from Debbie in months. I am wondering if she let her membership lapse.
It was lovely to hear of her childrens escapades.

I hope everyone is o.k.and not feeling to cold.
We maybe having more snow flurries tomorrow, but I am hoping the forecasters are wrong.
Take care everyone. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Sorry I am around but not on here too much. This morning was food shopping after collecting our wills from the solicitor. I reckon we have spent all of fifteen minutes with her at a cost of £300 for the two wills. Not a bad little earner that is it. (wills £125 each + 20% VAT.) Very very simple wills too, about half an A4 sheet.

We then went for lunch at the local Brewers Fayre where we enjoyed fish and chips. Then when we got home, after unpacking the shopping, I have been shifting all my books and craft stuff, scrap books etc that are not on wall shelves out of here into the spare bedroom so that T can lay a new carpet tomorrow. He has yet to move the desk, book shelves, TV, and 9 drawers out. The settee has to stay and be manoevred.

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 27 Jan 2011 19:22

Good grief Ann,£50.00 VAT, it's so unfair isn't it.
The cost of seeing a solicitor is going through he roof. There was an offer going on here, for a will writing service for the price of £50.00 per will inclusive of VAT.
But with the VAT going up as it has, I dare say those prices will now have to go up as well.
Poor T having to move the big furniture, he will have muscles like Popeye
when he's finished.
I,m glad you liked the golfing e.mail I sent you. My daughter in law is a golf widow as well. When they go away for holidays, my son and grandson insist that they book a place near a golf course.
I am now a darts widow, but it used to be cricket every weekend.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 27 Jan 2011 20:04

There was an article in the papaer recently in the finance section saying to be wary of will writers as the price often rocketed after you agreed to use them and they were often unqualified, self taught, not bonded etc.

Hi all

warm, and alternating dry and very wet here! It seems to be 2 days pouring rain, 2 days dry at the moment, and the temperature is up around 10C most days.

I found the phone number of the place we bought the generator, OH phoned them yesterday, and within 30 secs they had checked their records and given him the model number. He then contacted the police, and that has been added to the file for use "if they ever find it". They still won't come round because it didn't involve a physical breaking in to the house.

Now he's trying to get hold of the assessor ............... they're playing telephone tag at the moment!

Ann ........ having the kind of dental treatment done that he's having done is not for me either! I couldn't take the long hours in the chair, the pain, OR the cost! He has a very high pain threshold, but even he has been resorting to taking a tylenol the last couple of time (similar to your paracetamol).

We plan on doing our will soon ... like all good plans, it keeps getting derailed! Really must do it though, because I really want to tie things up into trust funds for MJ and for J. OH is not with me on this, but my past experience of M has given me a distrust of what he might do if any amount was available to him. There is this continual urge to open a business rather than work for anyone else .... often not very considered businesses, and anyway his interests last for about 3-5 years.

Take care everyone

Hi Mo and Ann,

Sorry I haven't been on for a couple of days, it was food shopping yesterday, and the Jennie and Michael arrived so that M could help Alun move a bits of furniture. I also started sorting my craft stuff out yesterday
morning.

This afternoon M & J came over to help me to sort some more of the craft stuff, it took us 5 hrs, and it still isn't finish.lol!! Still, at least most of it is done now. I need to buy some more storage containers, I didn't realise I had as much stuff as I have.

Mo, how is your new granddaughter doing? I hope she's taking her feeds alright now.

Alun has gone to the M R club, his usual Thursday night out. I'm sure he thinks that the club would fall down without him being there.LOL!

Ann, it sounds as though both you and T have been busy. It takes so long to move things about from one room to another, especially as we get older.

We have so much stuff that we need to get rid of, the trouble is it's too good to throw out, but we don't use it and never will...so it will have to go and I'll have to stop being sentimental about some of the things.

Jean, thank you for sending me e-mail that you had from Marie. It's lovely.
Hope your vertigo is keeping away, so that you can get on with some craft.

Huia, did your new mowing man come back to do the garden? I hope he did. It's so annoying waiting in for someone to call, and then they don't turn up.
Hope Phil was ok and responded to youwhen you last visited him.

Thinking about Joyce and Caz, and hope that they are not in as much pain as they've been in.

Sylvia, hope your OH has recovered from the treatment he had at the dentists a few days ago. Hope you are alright and that you and OH have managed to find the information you need for the generator that's gone walkies.

Marie, since I've got older, I'm not as organised as I was in the past.
To be honest, I'm pleased and very grateful for both Jennie and Michael's help, they are both very organised in their house, so they are just the right ones to help me.

Julia, Linda, Liz and Tess, thinking about you all and hope everything is okay with you and your families.

Speak to you all soon.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

The mowing man hasnt been yet. I went out at lunch time yesterday so he might have phoned then, but he didnt leave a message on the answer phone. The rain started at lunchtime today so when once it got heavy I got on the internet, looking at censuses on FMP. I have made some more corrections to their transcriptions. I still have lots I want to look up, but I can do that on a rainy afternoon while you all get your beauty sleep. Just hoping, of course that the tropical cyclone which is nearly here fizzles out and doesnt put the power out.

Huia.

Sallie Report 28 Jan 2011 17:13

Huia, I hope that the tropical cyclone will fizzle out before it gets to you, you don't want or need it doing any damage to your house or places near your.

It's a shame that the mowing man hasn't got back in touch with you, especially after telling you he would.

I've been watching a couple of programmes on TV over the last few days.
One is Passport Patrol and the other Motorway Patrol all set in NZ.
I've found them both very interesting, as a couple were filmed on the Northern motorway, so it was nice to see some of the lovely scenery you have there. It was all the more enjoyable because with you living there, it brought things a litttle bit closer to you. If you know what I mean...not always good at putting things how I mean.LOL!!

Hope all our friends are all okay.

I have to go out now, so I'll probably speak to you all later on.

Love to you all and take care. Sallie.xxx

Well the carpet is laid and looks very nice, he doesn't do too badly for 72 my OH. We ended up having to buy new underlay as well so £55 for the carpet and £50 for the underlay!!!! At the moment he is trying to get all my computer, printer, scanner etc back in so that tomorrow we can start to get straight again. Trouble is, I want him to stop but he is insisting on going on. He should sleep tonight.

Huia I hope the tropical cyclone doesn't reach you.

Sallie, I am pleased that you have managed to get your craft stuff sorted, I have tried to sort out a bit more of mine today and it is looking tidier.

YorkshireCaz Report 28 Jan 2011 18:29

Hello girls, not been on for a few days, couldn't sit for long but my back feels ok for now thank goodness. Huia I hope the cyclone doesn't cause much damage or put your power out, the high winds we have are bad enough for me, I hate it. Sallie I wish your lot could come and sort all my stash out, I've been looking at it today and wondering how to sort things. The trouble I have is I have one tall set of drawers in the corner of the room and another in the bedroom, however I sort them I am always wanting something out of the bedroom. I keep finding things, pack of card or peel offs and thinking 'I don't remember those', but of course they all get used eventually.
I tried to sleep this afternoon, usually read but I was tired, a flipping young lad on a quad bike kept going round the village and up our street, never did get my sleep.
My legs are acting up again keep folding up but not fallen again yet, just at the weekend as well when I wanted to go to the Range, I hate going in my wheelchair as I can't see what's above me and have to have hubby with me all the time. Last time we went he said I could use one of theirs, so there I was holding my crutches, shoulder bag on my knee and the basket, he had to push me because of fm I can't propel myself. What a farce, next time I will use my own, it's a lot more comfortable, and I don't need my crutches to get into the shop.

Hubby is home so will say bye for now

Hope everyone is ok, Joyce was still having trouble with cramp in her feet and legs but she is having it during the day now, must be awful. I will be ringing her tomorrow so will find out how she is.

Love Caz xxxx

Huia Report 28 Jan 2011 20:48

The cyclone seems to be more up north at the moment. Heavy flooding, people drowned (not as many as in Oz), others climbing trees. One house on Waikehe Island in the Hauraki Gulf (not too far from Auckland) was shattered when a slip engulfed it, but the residents survived. Another house at Stanmore Bay north of Auckland hit by a slip. Phils sister lives there, but she shouldnt be hit by slips, just the wind. I must phone her to see how she is.

Sallie, I know what you mean about the TV programme meaning more to you because you know I live in NZ. When the big bush fire was raging in OZ, with Mick from the Bush in its path it had so much more meaning for me, not just 'oh another big fire in OZ' as I had read some of his postings. We are certainly becoming one big family on GR.

Off to ring s.i.l. now.

Huia.

Sallie Report 28 Jan 2011 20:56

Hi Everyone,

Caz, well, I'm hoping that things will be a lot easier now that most of my craft stuff is sorted out. There is still some stuff that I need a couple of containers for, but not sure what kind to get, because most of what's left are lots of different bits and bobs.

Take care if you go to the Range over the weekend, as you say you will be better off in your own wheelchair with it being more comfortable, so you'll be able to concentrate a bit more on what you want. I'm sure it must have been difficult trying to hold your crutches, your handbag and trying to find what you wanted.

Ann, glad that your new carpet is down and that you are pleased with it.
Well done to T! It's good that he can lay carpet as it saves a bit of money.
The worst thing about having to put a new carpet down is having to clear the room before and then putting everything back. Still it looks nice when it's all done.

I can't get over the amount you and T had to pay out to make your wills.
These solicitors are doing well....talk about money for old rope.LOL!!

Sylvia, like you and your OH, we need to amend our wills, but there's alawys other things to do first and then we forget about it again. After hearing from Ann how much it cost them, I must say it put's me off doing
it. lol!!

Pleased that the company you bought the generator off could give you the model number, but as you say will the generator ever be found.
Things are like that in this country, once something gets stolen in a 'break in' we don't usually see them again. Jennie and Michael had a break inabout five years ago, before they got married.....even though the police came and they took finger prints, they didn't ever find anything.

I wonder where everyone else is, it's been very quiet on here.

Mo.I hope you are and your family are all okay. How is the weather with you? It's really cold here, I couldn't get over how cold it was when we went out earlier, after Alun came home from work.
We are thinking of going to Derby tomorrow morning, but I'm having second thoughts now I know how cold it is. I'm a right misery when it's cold, I just want to stay in house.lol!!

Joyce sorry to hear that you are suffering from cramp throughout the day now, surely there must be something that the doctor can give you so that you don't have to suffer so much. Hope Jan is alright. Have you heard how his cousin is lately? The one that lost her leg.....hope she's recovering well.

Hope all is well with everyone else and your families.

Alun has just made us a cuppa, so will say bye for now.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Mo in Kent Report 28 Jan 2011 21:12

Evening all.
Sylvia, thank goodness you managed to get the model number, for the generator.
The blessed assessors certainly take their time in sorting these things out, they forget the trauma that the claimant is going through.
I understand that they have to be sure it's not a false claim, but for goodness sake, a generator is something out of the ordinary isn't it.

Goodness me Sallie, what with both you and Ann doing all this sorting out, it's making me feel guilty.
There is so much I want to get on and do, but to be honest, I just don't have the inclination at the moment.

Ann, poor T must be exhausted now. The trouble is, some men don't know when to stop ,do they. T has been a very active man, probably for most of his life, and finds it hard to slow down.
Could you please send me the recipe for getting him up of his BTM, so that I can give Roly a dose of it.
£105 was not bad for the carpet and underlay was it.

Hi Caz, good to hear from you.
I bet you felt like wrapping that bike round that lads neck didn't you. We used to have three lads that would do that around here as well, but not on a quad bike, but one of the bikes that sounds like bees going around in a can,a little 50cc thing. Fortunately they have grown up now,and moved away.
I do wonder at some shops, having their counters up so high. In this day and age, I thought that businesses would have got their acts together by now,and realised that a lot of wheelchair users have different needs.
Our local Pharmacy, is going to be doing a lot more disability aids
ie, beds and also kitchens, they already do a lot of other aids, but have bought into a franchise to help the disabled. It's high time this happened, as people were having to travel long distances to get anything they needed.
I also think that supermarkets should up grade their wheelchairs, to the type that have facilities for customers to put their shopping in, rather than having to put the baskets on their knees.

Joyce (((((((((hugs for you))))))))))))

I wonder if our Jean is o.k, sh has not been in to speak to us for a few days. ((((((((((((((((HUGS FOR JEAN))))))))))))))
Bye for now girls Love to you all. Mo xxx

Oooh nearly forgot our Huia. Hi there honey, I hope that cyclone missed your area. Take care love.
