Mo, like you, I don't know when I last hung the washing on the line to dry, I shall be glad to see the spring coming, at least there will be a chance to dry the clothes out then.

All those march birthdays and then it will be Easter cards Sallie.

It wasn't too bad this evening, the meal was quite good, roast pork, mash and red cabbage with carrots, and cauli then apple pie and coffee. The prize giving only lasted an hour and a quarter so not too bad.

I didnt clean the verandah as the instructions on the container of stuff say do not use if rain is expected within 12 hours. The other stuff I used last year I think I had to wash off after application. I have done the washing and the weather seems to be turning fine so I have hung a few things outside, but need to keep an eye on things in case the misty rain comes back. Just about lunch time now.

Ann, don't remind me.lol!! To be fair I don't make many Easter cards., but I like to make some for the three children that I'm close to, and five adults.

Glad that the prize giving didn't last too long, and that you enjoyed the meal.
Did T receive his prize, I bet he was pleased and proud to get it.


We are just waiting to hear from Richard, Christie's grandad was taken into hospital today, suffering from pneumonia, so we are waiting to see how he is. I hope he'll be alright as he also has heart problems.

Sallie, I don't make too many Easter cards either but I am going to have to make and send them early because we will be in Tenerife for easter.

went to Cheltenham shopping today, bought a few things in M&S including a pair of walking trousers for T in the sale so he was pleased. Also bought a pair of pretty butterfly sparkly earrings for my sister for her birthday in Pastimes.

Ann, I have just been looking in briefly at the threads but not adding as I have been hot on the trail of ancestors and their descendents on FMP. It is not always easy as names are mistranscribed or a person keeps changing their first name or y.o.b. or p.o.b. or gets carried away by a UFO. When I have finished I will have a lot of names to add to my tree in the hopes of finding some relatives on here, probably 3rd or 4th cousins.

Hello girls,
Sorry for not posting yesterday, but we were looking after the grandchildren last night.
I took my lappy with me but could not get on the net.
All three grandchildren were typing away on theirs,and poor little me,just had to sit and watch. Oh so frustrating.

Ann, you are so lucky with your M&S bargains. We have only got one store local to us,and I nearly always seem to miss the sales. Or when I do get there,the size I want has all gone.
It was like the purple outfit I bought for the new year. I bought what I thought was my size,and they were to big,but they hadn't got them in the smaller size. Oh well, thats just my luck I suppose.

I believe I told you all,about my son's noisy neighbours. Well the latest episode is, that they set my son's fence on fire yesterday,by lighting a bonfire right next to the fence.
Fortunately they put it out. We have told him to inform his landlady, as they certainly don't want to have to replace the fence panel,when they do happen to move.
And that they should also write it down in the noise diary that they have to keep now.

Well we have another very cold windy day here in Kent. I just hope that spring hurries up and gets here.

Has anyone heard if Joyce got to Liverpool o.k.

It's very, very quiet on here, only Ann and Huia yesterday. Where is everyone gone?


I've had a cough and cold over the last few days, although it hasn't stopped me from doing anything. I haven't been out, but I've been doing some jobs that needed doing and also made some cards.


Ann, sounds as though you managed to get what you needed to in Cheltenham yesterday, and a couple of bargains besides.

It's a shame you're away for the Abergaveanny meet, it would have been nice to have met you, and possibly T as well. Never mind, there might be another meet somewhere, where we can both go to.



Mo, hope all went alright with baby sitting last night. I am just wondering if you are home by now

Huia, sounds as though you are doing okay with your family research on FMP, I feel quite envious.
Welsh ancestors are not the easiest to find, with so many families with the same names. I wish my grandmother's ancestors had been a bit unique and called their children different or unusal names, and not stuck to the naming patterns that was traditional in Wales for many years, at least with a lot of families. It can be very difficult to find whose who, especially with a name like Jones.



I've just had a call from Joyce, she sounds alright, but still suffering from cramp, I'm afraid.
She seems to be enjoying herself at Liverpool, but think she was disappointed that her granddaughter and her children couldn't meet her as planned.
One of her children wasn't very well, so they couldn't travel up to Liverpool from S. Yorkshire. It's a good while since Joyce has seen them all.

She goes home to Holland on Tuesday.

I'm going to do some cards now, so I'll "see " you all later on.

Sallie, yes I am going to the London meet. I have never been to one before,and I am looking forward to it.
I'm going to drag Roly along with me,as I don't much fancy London on my own.
I just wish we could all meet, it would be so lovely. But OZ and NZ is rather a long way to go for a meet. lol let alone this country.

Mo I am just trying to imagine what sort of person lights a bbonfire in the strong winds we have been having. And certainly your son should tell his landlady.

Sallie, yes it is a pity that we are away in April for the meet. Although it is a bit of a way from here we would probably have got there.

Well, sometimes, just sometimes I wish I had an OH who wasn't a Mr Fix it!!! Today he decided to fix my car alarm that is a specialist very complicated alarm. We think the alarm battery need renewing and that is flattening the car battery. So he takes bits apart, finds a broken wire, tries to solder the wire but the solder is no good so he shorts out the alarm so while it will lock the doors etc, it has now imbolised the car and the car is going nowhere. So now we have to find somebody who will come out to the car. Great!!!! Well done T (who is definitely NOT in my good books today!)

I was shopping yesterday, didn't find what I was looking for, and didn't find any other bargains ................ so I went to the bookstore and bought 5 books, new releases in paperback by some of my favourite authors.


Sally ............... OH's mother was Welsh. I keep giving up on trying to trace that family! I don't have Jones (I don't think anyway!!), but it's Roberts, Hughes, Wynn(e), etc.

........ the weather forecast through to Tuesday is warm and wet. Then it's dry, sunny and cold!

Mo, the only meet that I've been to, is the mini meet with Joyce in Sheffied, but I enjoyed it. And of course I'm going to the Abergavenny one in April, I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone there......my sister in law is going with me as we always spend the day together and Alun and my brother are usually sorting out the computer or something or other.when we visit them.

I don't mind being in London on my own, I used to go there while Richard was in Uni, and then would meet him afterwards.


Ann, I was born in SE Wales, about 24 miles from where Daff was born in Cardiff.

But my ancestors on my mothers side are all from Cardiganshire and Carmartheshire, they moved to Monmouthshire looking for work, found it and stayed there.
I was brought up in a place called Rhymney, it's right at the top of the Rhymney Valley, about a quarter of a mile from the Heads of the V alleys road.

Sorry about your car. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall when T told you.lolol!!!


Sylvia, my father was the only one of his brothers and sisters to have been
born in S Wales. All his family were from N. Wales, about 4 miles from Wrexham, a place called Ruabon and surrounding area. I not only have the inevitabe Jones, but also have the name Hughes on both my grandparents sides. so you can imagine what it's like.
Two of my father's brothers and one sister were born in Stoke on Trent, so thought that they would be easier to find there....no such luck... lots of Hughes' families must have moved there looking for work too. Not an easy task, at all.

OH's family comes from North Wales .... his grandfather was born in Llanbrynmair, Montgomeryshire, apprenticed for 7 years as a cabinet maker, became a journeyman, then changed professions, went to college in Didsbury Manchester, and became a Wesleyan Methodist Minister on the NW circuit.

That meant they moved house every 3 years!

He and Nain spoke both Welsh and English, and insisted that their children speak Welsh until they started school. After that, the children had to speak Welsh at home, and English outside.

OH's mother didnt speak English until she was 6 .............. but became totally bilingual. Even at the age of 70, you could not tell she was Welsh when she spoke English.

I understand that only one of the houses they lived in between 1910 and 1930 did not have dirt floors.

Nain was a Hughes, born in Llangwm, Denbighshire. Her father was a blacksmith who was killed in his 30s after a horse kicked him in the head.

Her mother became housekeeper for her father-in-law, then moved to Manchester after his death to live with one of her daughters who was Manageress of a city centre restaurant. She took her 4 younger children with her, but by that time, Nain had bcome a milliner and stayed in Wales .... she did go to Manchester at some point, 'cos that is where she met Taid.



One interesting little snippet ........ there is a book called Almonds and Raisins by Maisie Mosco

In that book there is a scene where the characters are going to the synagogue and pass "a little Welsh woman who was always sweeping the pavement outside her house"


That had to be OH's gt grandmother ...... they lived very close to the one and only synagogue, and were the only Welsh family in the area.


Now how did Maisie Mosco know about her habit of sweeping the pavement?!

These Hughes' are difficult to find. Most of them were born and bought up in Denbighshire, but one of my grt grandfather's was born mear Mold, Flintshire.

I wish I could find someone else that's looking for some of the Hughes family that I'm looking for, but I haven't had any luck so far.



I know what you mean about sweeping the pavement, a lot of people in the UK did that years ago, well at least in Wales and England they did, I can't speak for the rest.


Alun's grt. grandparents on his mother's side came from Cornwall and Gloucetsershire, but also moved to S Wales to look for work, and stayed there too.

Apart from Alun's father and his brother being born in Cardiff, his grandparents were born and bred in Herefordshire, but a lot of their ancestors were also born in Warwickshire and Gloucestershire.
Some of the Vaughans emigrated to America, too.


On my mother's side of the family, two of my grandmother's aunties, also emigrated to America, I have found, and we keep in touch with one of the sister's family in Ohio, but we cant find anything about the other sister's family in Pennsylvania. My 3rd cousin's swife have searched for any information in the records out there, but with no luck.

Good morning to you all.

I asked somebody if she would write a book or knew somebody else who would, about our old Franklin County Council. It went out of existence about 25 yrs ago when it was amalgamated with 3 Boroughs, becoming Franklin District Council. Now that has gone out of existence as we are now part of Auckland City. My dad was county engineer for many years and my sister and I have been rather annoyed that nobody wanted to know about the old County, but now the woman that I approached (emailed) who has just written one on our local Power Board says she could write it. I dont know what it will cost to print, quite a bit I imagine, but I have ideas for a sponsor or two. In fact I am all fired up at the idea of the book. I will be meeting the woman next week to talk over our ideas but tomorrow I want to go to our library to see what books there might be, and go around a few printers to get a rough idea of cost. If you dont see my for a long time you will know I have got really involved with it. One of the old office girls from dads time is in her mid 80s now, I think, so she needs to be interviewed asap. There will be quite a bit of research involved, I imagine, but I dont know where to start, hence my asking the woman for help.

T's Mother was born and grew up until she was 18 in Caerphilly in the delightfully named Gasworks Road.

Her Mother was born in Mynyddyslwyn Newport.
But her Father was born in Somerset and her Mother's Mother was born (we think) in Cornwall and grew up in Somerset, and her Mother's father was born in South Gloucestershire. So a real mix. And no real Welsh names Masters Tamblyn and Ingram.

Hello peeps, all this talk about Wales makes me think of my ancestors my mothers side of the family are all Welsh, she was born in Llanllwuchairan Newtown, north wales, I have relatives in Tenby, the Rhonnda valley and most of them called Morris....who knows if we dig deep enough we could all be related....lol...
how are you all doing? we have very high winds and it feels colder too... I have manged to almost finish the album for my godson, it helped because I had all the pics to hand,..... the vertigo is till with me although not as severe , now my left eye and all down one side of my face is playing silly b*****s but I am still doing the craft stuff...bit by bit....J is ok and so is D , love to everyone especially our friends over the water....

Hi there everyone.

I'm afraid I have no family ancestors from Wales,and the only claim I have to having been there,is when my dad was posted to Crickhowell (sp) many moons ago.
And when we went on a family holiday to, Carmarthan with our children.

So we are going to be losing Ann and our Jean, to their holidays again soon.
I have been dieting and have lost enough weight to fit into a suitcase, if there are any offers.
Seriously though, good luck to both of you,and I hope you have wonderful time away.

Not done any scrap book pages as I was busy with re-organising my room. Just cleared ou the final drawer in my desk this morning. I have been making Easter cards though because I shall have to post them early with being away at Easter. My Easter cards are always very simple and I don't make that many.
