Hi all.
Ann, it's so stupid having to go through all the rigmarole when moving, and working with the children.
After all, we are all have to go through police checks prior to fostering, and the people within the household are the same,nothing changes apart from the house.
As long as the fostered child, still has it's own room, and all the love it has received from the family along the way, why do the powers that be, have to cause so many problems.
Yes, I can understand them needing to be sure that a child is safe, within the area you may be moving to, but they cause so much upset for the child in doing so.
When we were fostering, we moved twice, with no problems, and no forms to have to fill in.
But then they decided to change a lot of the rules, regarding children. We were not allowed to cuddle a child on our knee, ( after a fall or anything like that ) as it could be mistranscribed as abuse. If a little one had hurt itself, a cuddle sometimes was all that was needed, but no, they stopped that.
I was very lucky, in as much as theparents of the children we cared for,knew of us and our whereabouts, so there was no need for secrecy.
Apart that was from when you are caring for an abused child, then privacy HAD to come into it.

Lorraine, it will be lovely for you to see your daughter this weekend. My OH was in the R.A.F when we married, and after many posting all over this country, and abroad, he came out, for us to settle the children into permanant schools, rather than having to keep changing so often.
It was a great life, but not for any great length of time with a young family.
It was bad enough with my father having been in the army, and my brother and I traipsed all over the world, I didn't want for our children to have to go through the same thing. As much as it was fun as a child, boarding school was a thing I did not enjoy.

I think thinga were a bit different in the 60s/70s, the checks for foster parents were still there but we never have anything like the CRB (police checks) that foster parents have today, we had Social service checks and fire checks and that was about all. We mostly had babies. The first baby we ever had was prem, weighed 5 pounds, ( was 26, had one child of our own, no experience with prem babies, he was fed on watered Ideal milk every two hours and he didn't thrive very well. We didn't have a clue and had no extra advice except from the clinic. He was adopted at 6 weeks, in that time we were coping with the baby and the Mum's visits, she was 16 and wanted to keep him but her parents insisted he be adopted, she was heartbroken and would bring him toys and little clothes. He was to be taken to Ireland after adoption, I often wonder what happened to him. (I didn't know the name of the adoptive parents.) You wouldn't have done it for the money then either, we just about broke even with that one. the one we had for six months was treated like our own, other than borrowing a pram for him. His Mum couldn't make up her mind, she was going to marry the father, then she wasn't, she wanted the baby then she didn't, in the end I think she was going to marry the father who decided he didn't want the baby (who was gorgeous by the way.). So we had to put our feet down, we were supposed to only have the babies for 6 months, by then we had our daughter who was 10 and son who was three and son was getting so attached to his 'brother'. So we requested he be taken into full time foster care as it wasn't fare to him or our own children. (We wouldn't have been allowed to adopt him anyway as we were not on the list for adoption.) Of our own children and adoptive and daily minded babies he was the best behaved, never cried, slept through the night from the time we had him at 2 weeks and was always smiling.

And thank her for the phone number and could you please explain that much as I'd like to chat it would be 'painful' as I have trouble hearing on the phone. ok for short calls but not for chatting. I think it is a landline number she has given me or I'd text her. Thanks.

Hi Ann,
Just back from doctors, my cholesterol has dropped from 7.1 to 3.1 thank goodness, I am so chuffed about it.
She has kept me on the 40mg of Simvastatin for the next six months, to see how I go, and then she hopes to drop it down to 20mg.

I will txt Jean to thank her for your bits, as a phone call will be rather expensive wont it. We normally do the txting bit between us.

Mo, Is the phone no starting in 017 a mobile then? If so I can text her. Yes calls are expensive, another reason we don't phone people often.

Ann, no thats not the start of her Mobile number, thats her home number.
I have txt her Ann, and she does understand about your not ringing. I think she forgot about your hearing problems.

will reply in a bit shopping with fd, yes checks are rigerous, i thought id fail a couple of years ago when health got worse but we only have older children who mainly just need emotional support, thank gawd spelling wasnt in the criteria.

Hello girls, sorry not been on here for a few days, a bit preoccupied with things at the moment, I'm afraid.


Mo, so pleased to hear that your cholesterol has dropped since seeing the doctor the last time. I'm sure that you feel relieved about it.

Jennie seen the Rheumatologist on Monday, she has reactive arthritis caused by when her Crohn's is active. One of the doctors drained the fluid off her knee and also injected steroids into it, so it is feeling a lot better, thank goodness. If the she has anymore problems with her knees over the next twelve months she will be able to ring them for an appointment rather than having to go back to her GP and wait for a referal. So that will be good.

I must say that they really look after her at the hospital, any kind of problem and they quickly sort it for her. She has her MRI scan on Monday ( trust it to be my birthday, don't think I'll enjoy it very much) and then she has her Colonoscopy on the Friday.I shall be glad when it's all over and done with.





Lorraine, I'm sure you are really looking forward to having your daughter home at the weekend. It's always nice to have our children stay with us for a while.






Ann I didn't realise that you, Mo and Lorraine fostered children in the past. It's a great thing to be able to do, and I admire you all for doing it, but I don't think I would be able to do it, as I would be too upset when they left, saying goodbye to them. It's a good thing that everyone isn't like me or there wouldn't anyone there for them all. Bless them.






Caz, Joyce rang me yesterday, she said that you are at the hospital today, hope all goes well for you there and that the results will be what you hope for. Also hope that your kidney infection is now a lot better with the new antibiotics. Thinking of you.




Joyce said that her chest infection has cleared up now but she is still having a lot of pain with gout. So hoping that it will improve for her very soon.

Sallie, glad they seem to have helped with the pain in Jennie's knee, hope all goes well with the MRI and colonoscopy. Try not to worry too much, worrying won't help her and will make you unwell. I know it is easier said than done. My son always says. 'Mum, there is no point worrying until you know what you are worrying about' Hard but I do try to follow that.

With fostering many people used to say the same as you, 'how can you bear to hand them back?' My answer was always, we do it for them, not us, if we are upset we can get over it but they need our help'.

Hello girls, I am feeling pretty good with myself today, went to the cancer clinic this morning and everything is perfect, the scans and x-rays show nothing at all, I was a bit worried about the scan on my head but it's ok. the best bit was when they weighed me, I have lost over 7 kilos, I knew I must have lost a bit with being poorly but 7, blimey, feels good. I don't have to go back for six weeks, lets hope it's the same next time.
Sally I will be speaking to Joyce tonight, has she still got her rough voice, poor Joyce, it's always one thing or another isn't it.
It's been a lovely day, all sunshine now it is very dark and overcast and I heard a rumble of thunder not long back, don't mind thunder but hate lightning. Oh heck the rain is coming down in stair rods now, still I am inside.
My kidney is ok now thanks, I have three more capsules to take then I have done and I am feeling a lot better.
Lol, come to think of it I didn't have any dinner, just came home had a cuppa and went to bed to rest my back, think I will go get some toast.

Caz, well done, those are fantastic results, no wonder you are feeling upbeat, surprising how different these things make us feel. and Well done for losing the weight.

today I am sympathising with your back pain as I seem to have strained mine. Some years ago I had a really bad back but for a couple of years have had no problem with it. I don't know what I did to mine yesterday but was in agony with it yesterday evening and had a job getting to sleep last night. It was a bit better tis morning but has stiffened up again now. Trying not to spend too much time on here so visiting for a few minutes at a time.

Glad your kidney is ok too, let's hope that has kicked it into touch. :-)

Oh Ann I sympathyse with you with your back, there's nothing worse and it makes you feel miserable when it goes on. A nice hot soak in the bath will help it, trouble for us is we only have a shower in here, I do miss my bath though.
Hope your back gets better soon.
The weight loss was with being poorly so don't want to lose any that way again, lol.

well another day and i get to see my donna and a bonus she is staying over.
Im also hoping to have a young man staying for the weekend, and ive no spare rooms , if the rain would stay off we could have put the tent and gazebo up for the younger ones

Oh heck, I have spent ages writing a long piece and have just lost it, it just vanished, never mind I will do it again tomorrow. I am due for my eyes testingearly tomorrow morning, with having the mini stroke and losing some sight in left eye I have to have it done regularly and it's one of those things I just don't like.
Oh is doing supper and it's nearly ready so will see you all tomorrow. No Mo I wonder where she is, unless she is away and I missed it.

Blimey seven kilo's is a lot to lose honey, I bet you look at yourself in the morror, and say who the flippin eck is that staring back at me.
Not a nice way to lose weight though, but now you are a skinny minnie, you will need nice new clothes to wear. ( shush dont tell him indoors, it will frighten the life out of him)
I am dead crafty, I buy things when I go out alone, and hide them in my wardrobe.
When I wear them, I tell Roly I have bought them from the charity shop, and he thinks about how much money I have saved him. lol ;-)
I hope your eye test goes well tomorrow. And I am really pleased you are feeling better as well.

Ann, what the devil have you been up to, to do your back in like that. I do hope you and T have not been misbehaving lol.
It's so easily done though isn't it, you sometimes only have to get up awkwardly from a chair to put it out.
Get T to give you a good rub down with some linament. You might pong a bit, but it could help.

Sallie, the steroid injections will definately help Jennie's knee. I bet it hurt when they drained the fluid off though.
It's so much better that she can just ring the hospital for an urgent appointment, rather than having to go through the whole rigamarole of seeing the doctor first and getting a referal.
Are you doing anything special for your birthday on Monday.....Oooops I am not supposed to know that, even though you have just spoken about it.

Joyce's voice is back to normal, so she was able to talk as usual.lol!! She said she is feeling a lot better except for still suffering from gout, which is very painful.
