Morning all, Jude, isnt it lovely seeing the scan, our two go in Sept and will get to know the sex of the babe, also they are having a 3-d scan so they say, it will be very interesting to see that from all accounts.... hope everything continues to go well.... :-) :-) :-)
well friends hope all is well with you all too... still feeling the dizziness but very short lived so will be on its way very soon...
Marie I love hearing from you and what you get up to, the singing sounds great, I always loved singing and was part of the choir when Billy Graham came to Liverpool many many moons ago and did some concerts as part of a choir around the area we live in, my biggest problem was the breathing if I could have had singing lessons I was told I would be quite good, but alas we couldnt afford it , another one of my regrets in life , not being able to swim is another I did have lessons for that but had a fear of water and couldnt get over the panic attacks, and the other thing is not carrying on driving after minor accident, now that one was my biggest regret, oh and not watching what I ate all those years ago and trying to keep fit, might have been a slim me now ....lol... ;-) ;-)
Mo am I going to see pics of you in the wedding attire ? also let us know how it all went especially what the police said to you when they carted you away for unruly behaviour,I know you can get a bit wild after drinking champers..... ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) Hows Lily doing these days. bet she is a big girl now, also Roly hope he is on the mend .....
not heard from Caz again I wonder if the pm,s are getting through... hope she is o.k. although the little envelopes have been opened just the last one two days ago that is still shut....sending love and hugs to her <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Huia what size was the spider who made the web in you avatar? it looks as though it would be big...hope you are well and also your family....
Sallie , how is the card making doing , I manage to do a couple now and then, the vertigo curtails me though.... hope you are feeling better and also Jennie....
Sylvia , I had a chuckle when i saw the pic of your cabin, its suprising how ones mind works my vision of your cabin was a little wood hut in disrepair .....lol.... how wrong can you get.. :-S :-S :- how are you and your oh these days, do you still have to do the hospital visits? we are on a longish break from any of ours, my next one is in oct just the eye check....
Hope Dutch and her oh have a nice trip over here and all goes well so pleased that the littlies are much better and home agin, and hope the visit to see Caz will go well too....
blimey all this chatting has made me quite thirsty, so off to make a cuppa, take care and keep smiling you never know someone may be glad of one
:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Mo in Kent Report 18 Aug 2012 20:07

Hello lovelies,
Oooh Jude, it's wonderful when you see the scans of the baby. When my grandaughter put a photo on Face Book for me to see, I was thrilled. But I always have problems deciding what is what and where. On the latest scan, baby is sucking it's thumb, or as mum to be said,"She is sucking her thumb", it's to early for her to know the sex just yet, so I think it's just wishful thinking on her part. lol
She will have a big shock if she delivers a baby with an extra bit added on, but she will love it just the same.
Just think, that will give me twelve grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, and me only, ahem, a wee bitty thing of 21 ;-).

Jean my love, if I can get someone to take a photo of us both in our wedding attire, without breaking the camera, I will send you piccy. I also want one of the little bridesmaids and page boy, my youngest grandchildren.
We are keeping our fingers crossed as far as Lilly goes. They have taken her off of red meat, and at the moment her tummy seems to have settled down.
I bought her a little dress today, but had to buy her an age two to three year old, so as you can imagine she is quite big for an 18 month old, but so cute with it, and has a smile that would melt many a heart.
I have warned our local papers that I shall be on the champers that day, and they are going to send a reporter out to cover any mischief I get up to, and report it back to you, so you will be the first to " Read all abaht it." when I hit the headlines. ;-)

What a shame that Caz cant get onto the site, I bet she is really cheesed off with the situation.

Hi Mo

and everyone

Had a super dinner out for OH's birthday ...... feeling rather full now!!

The atmosphere was very French bistro ..................... imagine very high ceilinged (as in an old Paris building), wainscoting, dark red- purple paint above. Smallish tables ( for 2 or 4), marble topped, and 2 rows down a long room ............ one row against each wall.

We were seated close to the window, and could see out onto one of the busy streets of Vancouver ......... it's also art gallery row (about 15 or 16 art galleries selling art in less than a kilometre!), plus a live theatre, etc etc So lots of people passing by.

The food was good ....... prices about comparable with our very favourite restaurant ....... so not cheap!!

Our favourite restaurant is still tops with us.

I had duck breast (again!), and OH had a lamb rack.

Very friendly service ..........we don't do stuffy over here!!

Fun, enjoyed it, may go back again for a special dinner.

Hope everyone is well.

we're going up to cabin again on Wednesday until Sunday

take care

SylviaInCanada Report 19 Aug 2012 05:15

Jean ..................

that cabin WAS in complete disrepair when we got possession.

we'd asked the previous owner to rip out all the gyprock and ceilings inside, and plain clean it out.

So the outside walls were standing and more-or-less complete. The roof needed immediate replacement

The inside walls were just the blocks of lumber, with no "fillings" between them.

and it was filthy ............... I thought the "lino" in the main room was a very dark colour

NOOOOOOOOOOO ........... when I got the strong cleaner on it .............. it was an orange and cream pattern, very 1970s!

First thing we did was have the roof replaced, using that dark green metal.

Then OH and I began to re-do the walls inside ................. over here we use gyprock panels 8' x 4' to form walls.

We had about 72 panels delivered, had to move them inside, and then slowly worked our way through the cabin, installing them along with pink batt insulation.

The first room we blocked off was the bathroom ......... with its toilet and sink. The toilet flushed when you filled the tank with a bucket of water!

The last major work we had someone else do was plumbing ............... bringing water up hill from the creek and piping it through the house to the toilet, the sink in the bathroom, and a sink we installed in the kitchen.

But we only have cold water ....... and have to have our generator up there in order to work the pump that brings up the water.

I think OH finished the last major cupboard building and painting about 3 years ago.

At the same time, he was trying to bring some sort of order into the "farm land".

It was hard work, but fun.

Sylvia, I am very envious of your cabin.
You have both worked so hard on it, how can you bear to sell it, it's really lovely.
Your descripion of the restuarant where you had OH's meal, had me feeling as if I was there with you.
Like you I would have had the Duck, thats my favourite especially with Orange sauce.
How is you weather over there. We are wilting in the heat here. If I slept three hours last night it would have been a miracle.
We have every door and window open, and there is still no air.
How stupid are Roly and I. When we went shopping on Friday, we decided that for Sunday dinner today, we would have casserole steak, oh how I wish we had chosen salad, the house was like a sauna.
I put it in the oven before we went out this lunch time, and when I opened the front door on arriving home, the aroma was lovely, but the heat hit you like a brick.

Not been on much today, joy of joys we have been car shopping. Not mine but OH has had his BMW for 6 years and feels ready for a change. Boys and their toys! 74 going on 44 and looking at huge cars, Difficult to point out that if he keeps it for the same number of years he will be 80. So I gave in in the end and went with the flow and, if it has not been sold by the time he goes for a second look tomorrow (after golf of course, have to get our ptrioroties right) he has seen the one he fancies. Of course it is in the garage the furthest away from here, down in Thornbury. He is changing back to a Merc (all being well), had one some 15 years ago and he always loved it. Not a new one of course, we don't do new cars.

Mo in Kent Report 20 Aug 2012 18:44

Ooh Ann, these men, arn't they frustrating at times. Roly wants a new car, but he has had his sensible head on lately, and has been looking at vehicles that are cheaper on petrol, and car tax.
Our son has had new Mercs for his last two cars, on advice from his accountant, he keeps them a couple of years and then changes them.
Mind you the newest ones are such luxury, and you feel like you are floating on a cloud when being driven in one.
I thought my youngest son, would ask his brother to drive him to his wedding next week, but the answer would probably have no, as he needs to transport his wife and family to the venue.

Well it's been another sweltering day here, I hope you are not all suffering from heat exhaustion.

See Jean you can't resist can you?
I am glad that Caz was pleased with the flowers etc. A lovely surprise for her.

Ok, scrap what you knew about the car at Thornbury! Went down there, test drove it, I wasn't keen and sensed T wasn't comfortable, it had a vicious clutch and somehow just wasn't right and the hand brake was really weird. Although we neither of us said anything. Back at the garage, they didn't want to take the BMW in part exchange, said we'd have a deal if we sold it privately. So we left it. Went back to a garage that wasn't open on Sunday where they had several used Mercs. And bought an entirely different Merc. A coupe, Avantgarde, 2 door petrol auto. Very sporty and with a 3199 engine. We have my VW for short journeys so petrol consumption isn't a great consideration. It has Sat nav, parking sensors (the other one had neither), heated wing mirrors, all sorts of gizmos for him to play with. Black (I know!!!! I always said I wouldn't have a black car. He'll be for ever polishing it). T drove it and it was lovely. And they took ours in exchange. Hopefully if we get the cash and insurance in time we will have it on friday.

Mo 18 years ago we had a white Merc, the old wedding car shape and we used it for T to drive our DiL to the wedding when she married our son. As T drove the bride and groom away from the church the exhaust blew :-D :-D You have never heard such a racket.

Hi Mo

and everyone
xxxx

The weather has cooled down ......... thank heavens!!

It only got to 25C in my back garden today ................ but it feels cooler than that.

I even went our for a short walk mid-morning ............ it was only about 20C, so very pleasant.

We are going back up to the cabin on Wednesday, and will return on Sunday.

We will again stay in the hotel in town, and drive the 60 km each way to the cabin every day.

Hopefully, OH will get the outside painting finished, and he will also put up the shutters on the 4 windows that can get damaged or broken by flying branches or stones if we do not cover them. We can get some pretty fierce winds coming up the valley!

So, don't worry if you don't see me until next week :-D :-D :-D

Take care ........... and do try to behave while I'm away :-D :-D ;-)

I repotted my Japanese maple yesterday , went to the gym this morning, had a very good session then went to visit my daughter Barbara and helped her fold her washing, then made the Emily's & Abigail's beds, she is still not well and went back to the doctor to get another script for more antibiotics for her Sinusitis, very Painful both her ear drums burst , I don't know how she stands the pain.

It doesn't take long for the mileage to go up on new cars Lorraine. As soon as we drive them off the forecourt they depreciate in value as well. It's a real pain in the BTM.

Jean, we all knew you wouldn't be able to not do your card making. You love it soo much, and it gives you enjoyment.
I can visualise Caz, Joyce and Sheila getting together, oh boy, I bet there was no donkey there for Joyce to talk the hind legs of lol. She doesn't get the chance very often, to natter away in her own language does she bless her.

Oooh Ann, the new merc sounds lovely, sheer luxury for you both.
When we got married, we had an old black merc as our wedding car, I felt like royalty back then in 1964.
But the very first car we bought, when we lived in Germany, was a VW beetle. It had a blown exhaust, and every time Roly had to leave camp, he had to go slowly past the guard room, as it made such a racket, or he would have been told he could not drive it in that condition. And way back then we couldn't afford to get a new exhaust, but that little beetle did us a great favour.
The next car we innocently bought, was an Opel Record. Two weeks after we got it, the big ends blew, and we had no car, until such time as we saved enough to get a recon engine. We were such innocents then, but we learnt the hard way.

Sylvia, enjoy your time up at the cabin. Make sure IM INDOORS doesn't over do things though love.
If he offers you a paint brush to help him, make sure you have an excuse handy, like you are just going to put the kettle on to make him a drink. lol
See you when you get back love.x

Marie, poor Barbara has been going through the wars lately. Sinustitus can be very painful, but even worse when you rupture the eardrums at the same time, as it's not just the sinuses that suffer then, it's the head, nose and ears at the same time.
Sorry to hear you have been suffering with the cold, and I know it's no consolation, but would you seriously care to take some of our heat for a couple of days please.
If we were able to adjust to the weather, we probably would be able to tolerate it, but it no sooner arrives, and we try to get used to it, and get up the following day and it's tipping it down with rain. lol
Your Japanese Maple sounds lovely. Does it grow very big? only I have to admit I have never seen one.
How the grandchildren doing now?

I bet Huia has been busy buying more bits and bobs from the hospice shop. How are you doing Huia, I hope you are well my lovely.

Got to love and leave you now girls, must prepare the salad for dinner tonight, I cant be bothered to cook anything hot today.

Cooeee Jude, hope alls well at your end.

Huia Report 21 Aug 2012 21:56

Mo, I was very good on Monday, I didnt buy anything. I left them all for the customers. They pay full price. The volunteers are given a discount, although I usually argue with the boss that the discount is too big.

Somebody from the Hospice phoned yesterday to ask if I could go in tomorrow as they are visiting the shop. Not sure what that is all about. Must remember to take some blinkers so I dont see the goods on sale.

Must go, I have a lot of things lined up to do today. The sun is shining, so I want to clear out more of the drain that goes across the top of the drive. I also want to photograph my red kowhai which is coming into flower for the first time, then I will come back inside to cool off and go through boxes of stuff which I dragged out last night into the lounge so that I would have to go through them before I stub my toes too much or fall over them. See you all later.

Huia.

The Red Kowhai ngutu looks great. How often is it meant to flower? I know you said that this is the first time ever, but I was wondering how long ago you planted it.
