Hi all
xxx

rainy this morning, then cloudy, then bright sun ...... it was supposed to rain all day, so I went out in my rain jacket!

Moonbi ..... it is not at all unusual for cabins to be broken into. But the policeman said that he'd had no other reports so far this year. He did say we were obviously very wise in what we left there ......... he shook his head in disbelief in what "newer" or more unwise cabin owners left in their cabins!

Our cabin is pretty isolated. There is a gravel road that goes past our farm gate to a area with lots on cabins right on the lake ................ I think there are something like 30 cabins down there, including a couple that are allegedly occupied all year round. They have a Residents Association, and they plough the road for snow in winter, and grade it at least once during the rest of the year. We keep meaning to contact them, because what they do makes it easier for us! But that area is about 15 km further down the road than we are.

We basically have no-one closer than about 10 km away ...... it's a bit hard to guess because the road twists and turns so much!

The problem I'm having with my computer is that I can't find out how to get some icons back that I was so used to using ............ and I seem to have Paint on My Pictures to use for editing rather than what I had before ....... and I have no idea how to do things like Autocorrect that I used a lot, or compress for use in emails and for avatars!

take care everyone

Persephone Report 24 Jun 2011 06:14

Moonbi,
Have been meaning to thank you regarding my wisdom, I will pass that on to the family... that will give them a laugh.

Evan took a few days at our Starship hospital, he had an infection but you would not know it from how mobile... he went from can hardly move one day to hopping in and out the next day. We had him at our place for a couple of days...he decided he would go to school after that... so that's not bad.. have op on Mon night and back at school 9 days later. Didn't happen when I was his age and had mine out.

Other thing is Moonbi.. I will pm you my e-mail address if you like and send you pics of this card that my friend's daughter did for her young cousin. It is really something.. a lot of love went into it... and I have never seen one like it.

Oh and Evan came to our place and then his dad did a 4cm cut/slice to his thumb and had to go to A&E.
End of May I got back from Wellington after visiting my younger daughter.. my little grandson had just gone 3 months and was due for a second visit. I managed to get a cold on my flight back, wasn't too well the next day, the following day had my first ride in an ambulance, had an asthma attack. So spent most of the day having blood tests, xrays, and several goes on the nebulizer... plus I was asked to help our on a BP survey which I did. They took it on your upper arm and then your wrist and compared the readings. Quite a good idea because sometimes they cannot always get to the patients upper arm easily. As a result of all of us back and forward to hospitals etc my youngest daughter asked if we could please have a treatment free week. I think we managed it, but now my 14 in August Granddaughter Anya is not well - I had to take her for ultra sound to her stomach: result nothing wrong. The next evening she was up at the hospital but they can't find anything wrong. Have said it is probably the glands in her stomach playing up. Not too sure about that one it sounds like something they tell you because they really don't know. She is still in pain. Her mum is stressed out as well about all the school she has missed this year and the school is also not happy about it. So us lot are a right lot of puddins..

You sound like you had a good trip around Ann... I get dead envious when I read on here of people' s travels around Britain and you are so close to Europe and can go tripping around there as well. We are so far away, but one day I will get back to the UK and Europe. I especially want to go to Kent and fossick around.

Off to cook the roast now. Must look at the cullinary delights thread too Bridget. :-)

Good morning Sylvia and Perse

Sylvia, I wonder if people have just not bothered to report break ins if the police ahven't heard of any.

Perse, what a bad year for health your family have had so far. I do remember when ours were young the doctor saying there is a gland in the stomach which is affected by things like tonsillitis in children (I think they grow out of it) But I hope they can either find what is wrong with your granddaughter or it stops bothering her.
Yes we enjoyed the Lake District, always beautiful up there but particularly so this time of year when it is so green from all the rain.

Persephone Report 24 Jun 2011 09:08

I guess so Ann, but it is only Anya that I am concerned about the rest of us... well it is just a few days out of a year... just that it all happened in such a short time.

I told Sylvia about a chap here that did burglaries sometime ago he didn't take anything, he would break in when the people were out and cook breakfast for himself, do his dishes and clean up/ wipe bench down etc. No one really wanted to prosecute him. If I knew he was coming to my place, I would give him a list of to dos... and I would make him some muffins to take away as well. ;-)

Ann I read somewhere else about your experience of the seagull on the motorway.

my daughter said that kind of behavior in adolescents is pre dormal schizophrenic.

early warning for a mental health issue.

checking in to say that I am about to take my little holiday to Adelaide.
Gson has gone home to his mum now and they are going on holiday to Bendigo for a few days, and then to Melbourne to see the theatrical "Peter Pan". Last week of the school hols. he will visit with his other gparents for 3 days.

Clear sunny day here, with a cold breeze off the mountains. heavy Snow has fallen again, by the feel of the air.

All going well, I am packing my things today. and leaving very early on the 4th.
There are some things I need to put in order here before I leave, but that wont take too long.

So I will be off the boards for about 2 weeks, unless I can get to a netcafe during that time.

My son2 has gone of to a funeral this morning. One of the basketball team had a baby girl, who died soon after birth.
It is a very sad thing as it was their first baby.
I do hope my son comes back ok. He gave me a warm hug just before he left.

Hope this finds everyone well

hi all
checking in from cold and wet Adelaide.
time has flown and I am leaving to go back home day after tomorrow.
Had a good connection from Sydney, but the landinf was rough. The worst I have ever experienced. my ears really hurt.

Having a good time here though. visiting brother's family and met the little grand neice Bianca. She is so so cute. All smiles. just beginning to reach out for things, and very happy to hold hands.

Have been to the scrapbooking and cardmaking supples called "Camelot" which was a real eye opener. there was so much stuff
that I gave up looking and asked for what I wanted. we ended up getting 11 sheets of A4 pearl to use in the wedding invites.at 60c per sheet I thought that was good. then I got some other papers 12x12, and sage coloured rhinestones, small buckles I can thread ribbon through, and some pearly flowers whivh look a bit like buttons.

Yesterday I visit with my nephew and his wife; the one interested in genealogy. and apart from freezing my feet off, as their house was so cold. it was a very nice visit.
Then we went to a fabric and sewing shop, and as her birthday is coming up; I bought my sil an electric heat tool for quilting. looks like a tiny trowel. Used instead of an iron, and can press into tiny corners.
I love mine, an she has already tried it out an is impressed.

hope all you folk are well
best wishes from Adelaide Sth Aust

Hi Moonbi, you have certainly had a lovely time and I am sooo envious of your visit to the scrapping shop. Did you learn anything re your genealogy as well? That would have been the icing on the cake.

Have a safe journey home

moonbi Report 14 Jul 2011 13:59

hi Ann

arrived home to a sunny but cold day. My plane was delayed from Sydney. as the Albury airport was fogged in for most of the morning and it took till just after noon to clear the backlog, so I got away just on 1pm and so was home about an hour later than I should have.

That scrapping supply shop was too much for me, there were things all over the place and so jumbled, i had to be careful not to trip on things at floor level. the aisles between are so narrow only one person at a time. so thats why I gave up looking and asked for what I wanted.

Sadly I didnt learn anything new about our family history, from my nephew;s wife. But we did have a very good general conversation about it all. I was fairly sure that I had covered my branches, and she confirmed that.
But great news, a packet has arrived while I was away; from Northampton records office.

I am back a generation more to 1670, and there is a will dated 1723 that has such a wealth of info.
I havent had time to digest it yet, but they have suggested that I get a digital copy, since the document of 4 pages is fragile, and a wax seal prevents it from being photocopied.

what do you think, should I order it?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 14 Jul 2011 14:38

If you are certian that it will contain important info yes. (As long as you can afford it.)

Will of John Lyon

this is a complex document which runs to 2 pages of text and includes the establishment of a trust and references to copyhold property held in the manor of Kettering. Associated with the will is a lengthy inventory of the deceased person's personal estate (goods and moveable assets) which is also 2 pages in length. The will has a codocil which mentions the testator's son John and his daughter Eleanor, the wife of Thomas Giles, both of whom are omitted from the will's principal legatees.

Nths records did send me a photocopy of the inventory 2 pages.

Sitting here all alone, so will make myself a cuppa soon and then ring my bro'

Grson taken to school this morning as we missed the bus by getting up too late. It was so nice to have him last night. He grew 2 cm taller over the 2 weeks I was away. He learned to roller bladeskate, and he lost his 2 front teeth on the top.

Last night I began to read him Enid Blyton's Round the Chimney Corner bedtime stories.
He said his school readers are so boring, but I replied he has to learn the new words in them.

Hope Sylvia is enjoying her cabin life.
