What a good day it is today. I was also in tears this morning, happy tears. It is also so good to see them looking so well. It also brought on thoughts of what it must be like to work down a mine. I expect that many of you have ancestors who were coal miners. My uncle was one. He worked at the coal face with a pick, crawling on his hands and knees. It was in the days before unions. All the coal mines were privately owned and when he had to give up because of his health, there was no compensition. When he died, the autopsy showed that his lungs were completely black. My uncle wasn't a very big man, he was a miner because his father was, as were most of the men who lived around him. He didn't let his son go down the mine and he was pleased that his daughter didn't marry a miner. It was a very hard life then as it surely must still be today. We should give our thanks to all men and women who are happy to do all the dangerous jobs that we wouldn't want to, to make our lives that much better. My prayers are still with Sophie. Love SuzyQ

Scouring the family history sites for something, and found this - its members interests in the Benalla Family History Society. I thought there might be some names you may be interested in. http://home.vicnet(.)net(.)au/~bfamhist/page7.htm Jood - forever lurking for her dead peeps

Afternoon happy Wattlers Great news about the miners. They now deserve a little privacy to be with their families. More prayers to the gods for little Sophie and her parents. Wilson....soooo sorry to hear about your cat. What is the matter with some people? How hard would it be to stop, check the poor animal out and move it off the road? I would be inconsolable if my cat, Winnie, was killed like that. <<<hugs>>> on their way to you. Well I got the boys moving this morning and we now have a lovely, old cast iron bath in the back yard. A bit of rust proofing on the underside and we'll be ready to do the papyrus feature. The bath wasn't near as heavy as we thought it would be so no stretched muscles or aching backs. I managed to put 3 photos of my 'family artifact' on the photo page today. If any of you are interested you might take a look and give me your opinions. Gotta go. Graeme seems full of energy so we are going to do some weeding. Big <<<hugs>>> to everyone. See y'all later love Trifley

Evening all Laurie yes I believe you heard right. On our local news it stated that it looked like only Todd was at the funeral. I was wondering if Brant was ok, but I think it is just all the focus on not only him but his family, they probably just wanted some privacy. Brant actually didnt want to go to hospital, he just wanted to go home, and that is what he said when he signed himself out of hospital, so possibly that is what he did. Also Brant has only been working at the mine for abouot 4 years and originally from Queensland whereas Todd was born and bred in Beaconsfield. I saw the funeral procession go past my place, the harleys put on an impressive show, even if it was on a sad occasion. Cheers Sue

Hi Wafflers At least Joodles has a clean mind.............which is more than I can say for Anna and Lew Lew . Got your emails, girls......climbed back on my chair after pmsl. I'll have you know my granny was a good Irish catholic and would not have had either of the things you suggested. Now everyone else is going to wonder what on earth you 2 thought it looked like heee heee. It would make a good cosh, though. Maybe it's some sort of truncheon. A polly waffle to the peep with the most original idea. I've got time for another cup of coffee before bed. Be back later. love Trifley

Good Morning All, another beautiful sunny day here in Mudgee (bugger!!), but at least it's lovely for Laurie and Jood's visit. Looking forward to lunching with them! Trifley, I still reckon your artifact looks like something Nefer might have lost! Have you checked him lately for missing bits, pmsl. heee heee Wattlers have been a bit quiet overnight. Probably all emotionally exhausted after the miners' rescue. Just spoke to my Aunt in Bright, Vic, and they've already had about 30 cm of snow. Will probably go and visit her in August. Hey, Lara, that's not far from Yarrawonga, is it? Might pop over for a cuppa! Well must away and get myself ready for today's special lunch. Love to you all ~~~waving north, south, east and west~~~ Lew Lew (51) xxx

Anna Report 9 May 2006 23:44

Morning all Beautiful day in sunny Queensland. I wonder how Todd and Brant are feeling this morning. I heard on the Sunrise show that Brant has not pulled up as well as was originally thought but there weren't any details. I cannot even begin to imagine how bleak and stressful those long days underground must have been. Haven't heard anything about little Sophie - here's hoping she is doing well. And Grant won Dancing with the Stars - I will miss it on a Tuesday night. I still lthink Toby should have been in the final. Hi Cilla - Reb is organising the venue for Brisbane and she has diappeared off the boards - she may be in the naughty room with Nefer - but I'm sure she'll drag herself back to Wattle tthread eventually and give us the details. Hi Trifley - found any more phallic objects lately? On second thoughts, I don't really want to know, me having led a sheltered life and all..... Had an interesting speaker at our genealogy meeting yesterday - the man who started the Ryerson Index. He comes from Sydney and is a member of lthe Dead People's Society. He is now living in Toowoomba and still co-ordinates the details he receives daily from people indexing the death/funeral/obituaries from papers around Australia. Such a nice guy. Writing group this arvo so best polish up the homework I need to finish by this afternoon. Have a good day XX Anna Tony - where are you?

Morning all Just a quick hello before I put the next load of washing out. Have you all seen the thread about someone hacking into GC photo page? Don't know if it's a furphy or not. But could explain why the photo site has been playing up. Big ~~~~~~waves to everyone. Healing thoughts for little Sophie. I'll check back later. love Trifley PS Anna....no, just the one unusual artifact. Can't even start a collection with just one ha ha. T

Trifely, Could you pm or email me a description of your artifact please? I know you had one on general a while ago. Hubby will take piccy's and description to work (he is a conservator at the War Memorial but they conserve all sorts of objects including cultural objects and like a challenge at lunchtimes!) Help with name decorations??????????? ~~~~~~~Vonny

Lewella Report 10 May 2006 00:54

Vonny, in Word you should have lots of 'symbols'. Just cut and paste the ones you want. Some of them don't work, so it's trial and error, I'm afraid. Any news of little Sophie? Trifley, you're so lucky with have such an, umm, err, 'unusual' artifact. Are you bringing it to the Brissie Meet, pmsl. Heeeee heeee Lew Lew xxx

Morning Wattlers, bit gloomy in Melb today, looks like it wants to rain. Lew Lew Joodles have a great lunch and dont forget we want pics. I heard last night that Sophie will be in a drug induced coma for the next 2 weeks but she is stable and will hopefully make a good recovery. I think because of the broken ribs they dont want her to move very much. Hi to all the wafflers, back later Jude2

Good Morning wattlers, Have been away for a couple of days, so have been trying to catch up with posts, give up as a bad job II think. Well I think it has all been said, the joy, emotions about the miners, I think the whole country felt the same. Still very dry in the Gong and windy, hate the wind. Have so many projects on the go I don't know where to start. My eldest Grandson turns 21 in Nov and I have so many pictures and lots of bits and pieces so have decided to do a book from birth to 21 in the scapbooking way. I am also trying to put together a sort of family history book. on my ancesters. Well have a nice day all and will pop bck later. Sandra in the Gong

Trifley I am shocked. To think that you would even consider selling a relic from your ancestor! You never know - it might still have DNA on it. You'll have to think of some other way to fund your retirement - surely you could organise some enticing entertainment on the barge which would be a good money spinner.....? I'm sure the Wattlers could come up with some creative ideas..!! :>) Anna
