Hello all

Tabitha, it's usually too hot to go walking during the day in summer and the heat lasts into the evening. I find the very early morning great. It's cool not much traffic about and I can appreciate the peace and quiet. There's usually a couple of dolphins in the estuary which I include in my route.

Sandie, that distinguished gentleman is my paternal grandfather. He is also my brickwall as the only records myself and others can find of him date from 1904 when he married my grandmother. He was 44 and she was 22. According to the 1911 census he was born in London but we can find no trace of him!

Sorry that grandfather is a 'brick-wall' in your research of your family.
Fortunately for me dad had an interest in his family background and had scribbled ( I really mean scribbled ,it's like when you're on the phone and just jotting things down ) He'd written down names during long tel conversations with his cousin about their ancestors .He was well educated but at best his writing when he was in his 80's was getting scrawly , and his notes to himself took some understanding :-( Helped me no end tho.

Have you tried the Genealogy chat site ? (London births do seem to bring up brick walls tho)...or am I suggesting to teach my granny to suck eggs ! No reply required !

lol Sandie :-D I've tried many sites and I've had no end of help from people on these boards and from my local family history society. The best that we can come up with is that my greatgrandfather married a lady who already had a child, or children. But even my greatgrandfather, Joseph Mortimer, is elusive at the moment. He was a coach trimmer according to my grandparent's marriage certificate but was deceased at the time of my grandparents wedding.

Nowt as strange as family Allan so the saying goes.

There's been a few skeletons in our family cupboard which have been opened and acknowledged by all parties concerned. All happy bunnies now. :-D
Paternal nan changed the date on her birth certificate , think it was to get married from the dates she was probably pregnant. Naughty nan!
Bleeding heck it was 9 yrs before we had our first.

Breaded haddock.

Must say G'nite now...have the rest of a good day :-) :-)

Allan - join us on another thread - we all have our brickwalls to contend with - but we have broken downs a few - my friend Evelyn has been trying to find a trace of her mothers birth cert for years - look it up on "trying tio find mother" lots of very good people on the boards are searching - its worth a try setting up one for Grandpa - I am also to be found on "Help us to help you three" we love a good mystery & a chat - if your depressed we cheer you up - or just listen - we share our joys & our sorrows - as someone said a few weeks ago - he spendt several hours reading through the thread - he laughed & cried with us -

We are all a bit barmy but we are there for each other in good times & bad - shae your brick wall with us.
