Hi all, will fill you in with the latest saga from the family who couldn't organise a p-up in a brewery tomorrow lol Just cross everything that things go the way I hope they will, latest is that son comes alone from NY ... but we've heard that one before lol

Counselling was good,

Huia Report 6 Jul 2010 09:57

I'm glad the counselling went well Liz.

I went to town this morning and found the info my brother in law wanted. Took only 2 or 3 mins. I then took some books to the op shop and asked if they would like another helper in there. She gave me a form to fill out. I have to name 2 referees. I have 2 people in mind but feel I should ask them first and they are both at choir practice tonight so it will have to be tomorrow I ring them. Anyway, no hurry.

Huia.

Deborah Report 6 Jul 2010 13:00

Hello Ladies,

Oh Liz, I do hope all the plans work out well in the end. I am on tenterhooks over it and the ongoing saga, so I can imagine what you are feeling. It's like agood book that I can't out down, with the story twisting in so many different directions. Keep smiling and be positive - you'll get through it, and you will feel great in your new outfit.

Huia, a friend of mine does voluntary work in a local Cancer Support Shop and she really enjoys it. She wanted to have something to do and it gets her out and meeting people. A good social activity. Good luck with getting all the papers in order.

I actually did some work on my Family Tree the other day, which is what I joined here for in the first place but don't get round to doing very often.

Peter & I were going through a load of photos which he had managed to rescue from his Dads house before Peters brother & sister threw everything into the skip when they were clearing out. I think Peter has learnt from me how inportant these things are. Not sure he would have been quite so dedicated a few years ago when both of his parents were alive and life was rosy.

Anyway, we managed to get a few names sorted and I put them onto my tree and actually managed to get some info from the Census records, so Peter is pleased that my time spenbt on here isn't all wasted!!!!

Life looks good at the moment. I have spent the morning typing up bills, which I don't enjoy doing but it has to be done and once I get started it is ok. We are lucky that most of our customers pay quite quickly, so don't have too much trouble getting money in.

I hope that you are all keeping as well as you can be. Jean, how are you these days? Sallie, I hope that you are a bit better, how is Jennie now? My sister came round last night. She is very well, and now wondering how she can shed a few pounds. She asked if I would go to the gym with her, but I cant do evenings and as she works, she can't meet me during the day. It is very difficult to motivate myself but if I had someone to go with it would be so much better. I'll have to see.

Anyway, better go, lunch is calling - I suppose a salad would be sensible, but it may just be fruit & yoghurt, and an enormous amount of cups of tea. I sometimes think tea was discovered just for me (and you, Mo. LOL).

Take care everyone.

Debbie xx

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 6 Jul 2010 15:19

Another snippet especially for Debbie lol (and anyone else who is interested lol)
When I was talking to the bride to be about this last evening - she rang to get o.h.'s work number - she said that her fiance (the son in England) said recently that altho he wasn't sure about being a dad when they decided to start trying for a baby, he is very excited and happy about it now the baby is on the way !
Now I am happy for them that he is feeling like this, but what a stupid thing to do! He had just proposed and she is rushing to arrange the wedding for 6 months time, and he agrees to start trying for a baby even tho he isn't sure about it? She goes ahead even tho he isn't sure about it? (or did he not voice that feeling but just went along with it all?) They have a big mortgage which they took out the year before, and have put themselves under huge pressure to arrange and pay for a wedding, with all the extra hassle of helping to pay for the best man/brother to get over here and to buy his outfit ( they obviously won't get a pressie from him altho they sent him one last year when he married his American landlady - they have asked for 'monetary gifts' as they have all they need in the house)
I can only think S got really desperate for a baby when her best friend found herself pregnant with her new boyfriend, and she already has a son by a previous relationship, so wanted them to be new Mums around the same time, her friend is 7 weeks ahead of her, and she was already scared she was leaving things too late as she is 31! I did keep telling her she had plenty of time to have kids once they were in a better position financially, now she is worried that she won't be able to go back to work part time, as she doesn't want to do full time and miss all the baby's growing up!

Still waiting to hear if the son went into a strop in NY or if his wife did too, so that he ends up saying he won't come at all. Apparently they are already arguing because of the stress over money, he hasn't found a job despite getting his permit to work a few months ago so things aren't rosy there either.

Happy families lol

Mo in Kent Report 6 Jul 2010 19:18

Oh my oh my Liz, this gets more intriguing as time goes by. Talk about families at war.
I can just imagine the arguments going on in N.Y. "You are not going without me,if you go you can stay there, don't bother coming back here." lol
I would love to have been a fly on the wall, when N.Y son told his wife.
I can't wait for the next update, this is better than corrie at the moment.

What a bloomin good idea Huia, doing voluntary work. You will be meeting
new people every day,who probably are like you,and don't have many others to talk to,and would be grateful for a few minutes chat. It would also break your days up a bit.

Debbie, I have given up on my tree for the time being. I have hit that brick wall we all come up against at times.
How lucky that you found the photo's of Peters family. It's surprising that when we take all these photo's as our families grow up,and we put them into albums, how we can forget about them.
My grandchildren love looking through the albums,of when they were all young. And they end up in fits of laughter,at some off the antics that they got up to when they were babies.
We have christmas photo's,when at one time or another, their fathers acted as father christmas. The children are sat on their dads knee, and didn't know it was them. When we explain to them who is who, they are so amazed,of course they don't remember us taking the pics in the first place.
I have lots of photo's of most of them in the buff, and have threatened them many a time, that when it is a special birthday I will have them put into the local paper, to show them up. I have not done it yet, but I am biding my time. LOL

I hope Sallie has had a good day in Nottingham. Thank goodness Robin Hood is no longer in Sherwood Forest ,or he could have stolen her purse, oh my god, what would she do then. No money to buy more crafting stuff. LOL.

Love to you all. Best wishes Mo xxx

Hello Ladies,

I'd almost finished writing a message to you all, when I received a phone call, Alun then decided to open a new tab to look at something and when he tried to get back onto this thread, my message just disappeared. So needless to say, I'm not a very happy bunny.

Mo, we had a good time in Nottingham, had some lunch there, and also got what we wanted, and of course, a bit more too.
It was great to go around the shops and not have any feelings of panic, so I know I'm getting better now. Oh Mo, what would I have done if Robin Hood was still there? I certainly wouldn't have put all my money in one purse, lol. I didn't go to any craft shops today, though. It's best to wait to go to Derby for craft stuff.

I'll re-write my lost message to you all tomorrow, when Alun is safely at work, lol!!

Goodnight to everyone. Take care!

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Sallie Report 7 Jul 2010 14:37

Hello Ladies,

Where is everyone? It's very quiet on here today! Right, while Alun's safely out of the way, I'll write the message that he lost for me last night. lol!

Debbie, Jennie had an appointment with the Consultant this morning, she's so pleased with her that she's decided to take Jennie off the medication once she's finished what she has left in the fridge. So Jennie will now need to go back on the tablets that she was on before. I can't remember the name of them at the moment. The only problem is, Jennie is short on vitamin D, so apart from that she's very pleased with Jennie.

Jennie said, that the Consultant made her and Michael smile---he's lovely and brown, with being out in the sun a lot, so she told Jennie to do what her 'boyfriend' does and go out in the sun. The trouble is, because Jennie suffers from water retention in her hands, due to her medication, she can't get her wedding ring on. She's obviously forgotten that they're married,
even though Jennie's been with her since she was nineteen, but there again she can't remember which of her patients are married or not. At least they had a chuckle over it.
How is your sister now? Is she still on any medication? Please give her my best wishes, when you next see her.
I expect the children are looking forward to the school holidays! It's nice that they do a lot of activities, as they have lots to keep them from getting bored.

Liz, pleased to hear that all went well with the Counsellor, on Monday.
I think that OH's son in NY, needs to grow up and start to realise that he shouldn't expect his family here, to finance him. They have to work for their money and he should do the same. That's the way that life is, I'm afraid!
If I were you Liz, I'd let them all get on with it, then they can't blame you for anything, said or done.

Huia, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll get a 'job' in the charity shop.It would do you the world of good, meeting and talking to people most, if not every day. Like you, Alun kept his Maths and Physics work that he had done in Grammar Schoool, and then added to them when he finished in University, with some more Maths and Physics work that he had done there over the years. Back last year, Jennie and Michael came over and cleared the loft out for us, so at least the loft got sorted, and all the years of work that Alun had kept, are now no more! lol!!
Have you been to see Phil over the last few days? If you have, I hope that he was awake and able to respond to you, like he has done lately.

Mo, I expect you and Roly are really looking forward to the weekend. I hope the weather will stay at least dry for you. It's our usual shopping day tday, not sure exactly what to get this week, with Richard and Christie coming up for the weekend. I like to make sure that I have a few of the things that they really like to eat, in the fridge and cupboard, because a lot of things they like, Alun and I don't, so I have to buy things especially for them.

Sylvia, it can't be too long now, before your daughter and her family arrive. I'm sure you're really looking forward to seeing them, especially MJ, as they change and grow so quickly. You and OH will see a big difference in him since you were there. Hugs and kisses to MJ!! xxx

Marie, hope all is going well for you and your family. Also hope that the weather isn't too bad there.

Jean, I hope that you are starting to feel a bit better each day. We all really miss you on here! I also hope that everything is going on alright for both J and D. Please give them both my love and best wishes.

Ann, have you started anymore cards yet. I've done some, but not as many as I'd hoped to do. I think I told you that my sister-in-law asked me if I could make some for the church that my brother is vicar of. They are having a church fair in September,so she thought it would be nice to have some handmade cards to sell. I just don't know how many I should make.

Joyce, if you are looking in, I'm looking forward to meeting you on Friday. Have you heard anything from Caz? I hope that things are going along okay for her. Take care!

We haven't heard from Marilyn for quite a while. Maybe she's away on holiday.

I'm off to have a shower now, ready to go out. I might speak to you all later!

Love and best wishes to you all. Love, Sallie.xxx

Thank goodness Sallie and Ann have posted, I thought the whole country
had gone to sleep. It has been very very quiet on here.

I am looking forward to the weekend Sallie, but not the sleeping arrangements.
Our weather forecast is for it to be a hot, humid weekend. But as we will be on the coast,it should be a lot cooler.
The cards you are making for your brother, are they christmas cards,or just
everyday cards. As the fete is in September christmas cards might be a nice idea as well.
It's good news about Jennie. If Jennie could get out in the sun,she will get plenty of the vitamins that she needs. Just as long as she doesn't sit in it for to long, and get herself burn't.
I bet that both Jennie and Michael did laugh at the idea of her being called a single woman again.
I am glad you had a good time in Nottingham. And if you had seen Robin Hood, people would not have seen you for dust. Oooooh that would have been spooky. He would have been singing, " them bones them bones, them dry bones," LOL
I bet you will have a wonderful time when you meet Dutch on Friday.

Ann, we have to have our secrets from our OH's at times don't we. Like yourself having to make your OH's birthday card, whilst he is not around.
When I go out to buy one for Roly,I have to ask him to wait outside the shop, while I go in. So it's never really a secret.
If I want to buy him a gift,I have to make up an excuse to get out alone.

Hi all

I think summer has finally arrived ..... sunny and about 22/23C yesterday, sunny and expected to get clost to 30C today, over 30 on Friday.

Yesterday was great, just what I like ................. but not any higher!!! I'm sitting here with a fan blowing on me!

Old school books?? Yep ..... same here ........ only it's both OH and me, AND also daughter's!

OH is gradually doing a clear out in the basement (our version of your loft for storage!!) ............. he asked the other week did I really need the Geography and Biology books from Grammar School

I suppose we all kept them because there was sooooooooooo much work invested in them!!

Yes Sallie ............... only 10 days to go, they arrive on July 19. And I have to find out what food we have to buy for them.

I know M has a different cereal, we've already bought a couple of boxes of that because it came on special the other week :)) But J eats a very different breakfast, dictated by the naturopathic doctor she's been going to ..... it seems to involve an egg, a bit of protein (tinned fish), yoghurt, and something else.

Plus, M doesn't like a lot of the foods that we like ... although he's much better now that he was when they first married. Not worried about J in the same way, of course!

We tend to live on cold meat salads during the summer .... hot roast on Sunday, cold roast for the next 2 or 3 days, then deli meat or tinned salmon for the rest

He doesn't like cold roast meat, has to be wamed up in the microwave. Not sure that he eats deli meat!

We'll get it sorted out .................. and it's a minor worry only!

take care

Huia Report 7 Jul 2010 20:05

Mo, are you saying that Sallie has no flesh on her bones (dem dry bones)? Oh, perhaps you mean Robin talking about himself.

I visited Phil again yesterday and he seemed quite improved. He has put on weight and is walking unaided, so I was told by a carer. He was chatting to me. Usually he only talks if I ask him something. The only problem is I cant understand what he says, but I just answer noncommittally. There is a mid winter Christmas party there next Wednesday afternoon so I am going to take my white 'Santa' hat to wear. I dont suppose you have mid summer Christmas parties in England.

I have had mice in the basement and have caught 4 in a couple of days. I havent been downstairs yet to see whether I caught another last night. I told the cat off for not doing her duty. I think I need a few more traps. A friend had said there was a plague of rats and mice this winter. Living in the country has its drawbacks.

I woke early this morning and couldnt get back to sleep. I suppose I should now get my breakfast as it is past 7 a.m.

Hi Sylvia and Huia.
It makes it rather difficult when people have different dietary needs doesn't it Sylvia.
But as it's not for a long term arrangement, you can work around it can't you.
I bet it's all excitement in your house at the moment, with looking forwards to the baby arriving.
Have you bought a cot for him to sleep in,or will mum and dad be bringing one for MJ.
At least you will have the good weather for when they arrive. Just as long as it does not get to hot for baby. Little ones get very fretful when it's to warm.

Huia I did mean Robin Hood, not our Sallie, bless her.
Flippin mice are a real nuisance arn't they. Are they just in your cellar.
My grandaughter had them in her old house, and they were eating into anything they could find.
She went to have her breakfast one morning, and the mice had chewed through the cereal box, into the cornflakes. Yuk. She didn't bother with breakfast that day.
She had traps down all over the place, but the little blighters managed to avoid them all.
She has a dog that totally ignored them, unless it wanted to play with them.
Soft bu**er that he is.
Good to hear that Phil was responsive to you. It makes you feel much happier doesn't it love, even though it's a hard job to walk away and leave him there.
We dont have mid winter christmas celebrations. But I bet you look a picture in your white christmas hat.

Well I will say good night god bless you all. Love to all. Mo xxx

Huia Report 8 Jul 2010 00:39

Mo, we dont have a cellar. Our basement is the garage and Phils workshop. The house is up above. I think it is some of the gardening stuff that they are getting into, blood and bone or lime or seed-raising mix. I did have something eat half an apple in the fruit bowl in the kitchen but I havent been able to catch anything, although it did set the trap off the first night I set it, probably by running over the top of it, unless it was a rat, horrid thought. I have some mouse traps that are not like the old fashioned ones. They are like a large spring clip clothes peg. I just put a dab of peanut butter on the trigger, apparently they love it. When it catches a mouse I just squeeze the trap to release it, dead of course.

Huia.

Mo

we are not buying a cot or borrowing one.

I thought J was bringing a portable playpen with her, which is what many people use .... but she has decided that MJ can sleep on the floor

She has a quite large pad, that is specially for babies to be put on on the floor, it folds up quite small, and she reckons that it will be as comfortable as any cot mattress. Plus he sleeps on a sheepskin pad, and she is going to try to bring that.

They are limited to 2 checked cases each, and MJ does not have a luggage allowance on the way out here. They have booked a seat for him going back ..... J said there was no way she could hold him for what could be upto 8 hours or even more .. and then he does get the same 2 bag allowance. They have to pay full adult price for the seat.

It takes almost as long to go from Vancouver to NS as it does for us to go to the UK .......... NS is actually closer to the UK than to here!

Ooooh Huia I do hope it's not a rat. We had all that problem with the one we had last year. The little blighter liked the fruit, but did not like the rat bait that the rat man laid out for it.
In the end we caught it with a rat trap and peanut butter, just like you have put down.
It was not a pretty sight, seeing it caught in the trap dead. But I would rather it that way, than to have had it running round the house any longer.

Sylvia. I forgot that young mums these days can buy travel cots. But I have to admit that I had not thought about large floor pads. I have never heard of them before.
How unfair that they have to pay full fare for MJ. But as you say, it's a long journey for him to be held in the arms. And little ones get very fidgety after a while, and need to be able to have a sleep.

Tommorrow, I will have to pack my suitcase, ready for the weekend. I am not sure what to take with me. We are going out for a meal with Roly's cousin on Saturday night,so I dont want to over or under dress.
Perhaps I will just stick to a skirt and top,to be on the safe side.

I hope that Liz is o.k as we have not heard from her for a couple of days.

Sallie I will be back later to speak to you. Well I hope to,as I was frozen out off this site, three times earlier. I ended up rebooting the laptop,so keep your fingers crossed for me that it doesn't happen again.

Sallie Report 8 Jul 2010 19:53

Hello Ladies,

I've just been telling Alun, that Laura, Chloe and the baby, called in on the way home from school today. Chloe had her skipping rope with her, they're allowed to take them to school so they can use them at playtime.
As they were leaving, Chloe was skipping up the driveway, she wanted to know if I wanted to try it, but could I try and skip backwards. Now that would have been a sight, me trying to skip and falling flat on my back, lol!!
I did say jokingly to Chloe, ' you do realise that I'm 110 years old ', she laughed, and said 'Mam, you're not that old yet'. I may not be that age , but I certainly feel it sometimes, lol!!

Huia, I could deffinitely do with a bit less ' flesh ' on my bones. I think I should have taken Chloe up on her offer today. lol!
I hope to goodness you haven't got a rat, it's bad enough having mice. Many years ago, when Alun and I were first married, we had a rat in a spare downstairs room. It was the only room downstairs that still had wooden floor boards. The Council had been doing some work on the sewers in the park behind our house. Somehow a couple of them found a way in from under the house. Once we got in touch with the Council, the rats didn't last long after they put some poison down. I hope that you'll get rid of them very, very soon.

Mo, I remember the problems you had with that rat last year. Just the thought of them being in the house, is horrible. I know it wasn't funny, but we all had a giggle about it at the time--each day it was just like tuning in for the next episode, lol!! That rat was determined it wasn't going to get caught.
I'm sure that a skirt and top will be fine to wear on Saturday night, I don't think you'll go wrong with that. I shouldn't worry too much about it, Mo, the way that some people dress to go out for a meal, and they think that they're the bees knees, lol!

Sylvia, the last time we went to NY, there was a lady and her little boy, sitting in the seat behind us, and her husband and their other child was sitting quite a way back. They hadn't paid for a seat for the little boy, but were told by the Air Stewardess, that once all the passengers were seated
there would be two seats together further up the aisle, but she wasn't happy about that--- she wanted the Stewardess to move some passengers out of a row with four seats together, so that their family would be together. She wasn't happy when the Stewardess said that she couldn't do that, because of various reasons, people needing an aisle seat, etc, etc, and that they had specifically asked for the seats when they booked. I don't know what happened in the end, because she took the two seats together further up the plane, with an offer from the Stewardess that she would try and move them altogether once we were in the air. I didn't know that they would have, to have paid full price for a seat for the little one.

Liz, I too was wondering if you were okay, since you haven't been on here for a few days. Let's hope that it's all now sorted for OH's son to come over for his brother's wedding. Have you got all your outfit for the
wedding, yet? It will be lovely when it's all sorted.

Ann, you've been busy doing some cards and a scrapbook page. I'm hoping that the family will buy me a couple of embossing folders for my birthday, but I won't hold my breath. Alun will probably say he didn't know which of them to buy, even though I've pointed them out to him, more than once or twice. Never mind, I can get them myself. Just hope that I can use the Cuttlebug alright.

Marie and Debbie, I hope everything is alright with both of you and your families.

I've spoken to Jean by pm today, I was getting concerned because hadn't heard from for several days. She's feeling better than she's been, but still suffering from vertigo. So let's hope that it will soon go, and that she'll be back on here with us all.

I'm going for a shower now and then make myself a cuppa.

Speak to you all tomorrow evening when I get back from Sheffield.

Mo, just in case I miss you, hope you and Roly will have a great weekend and take care.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx
