Huia Report 28 May 2011 23:38

Not much activity on this thread.

I took the stuff to Hunua for recycling. When I came back I had to wash the wagon, as there are road works, on the way, and a sign saying 'cement splashes, wash your car today'. I would hate to have to go to town every day through that and have to wash it when I got home late. I did give it a wash though. Perhaps I will take a different albeit slightly longer route to Papakura tomorrow to avoid the need for the washing. I shouldnt need to call in at Hunua, so that is ok.

Huia.

Hi Huia
Think some folks are having touble getting on to the site. Others might be away or have visitors as it is a Bank Holiday weekend again in England and also a weeks break from school for half term too.

Continuing Mo's chain of love and thoughts for Our Jean and Jeff.

Love and prayers for you both, in my mind constantly.

Mo in Kent Report 29 May 2011 17:16

Hello everyone.
We have had our grandaughter with us for the last couple of days, the one who is nearly nineteen, and is only 4foot ten tall.
She may be little, but by golly can she yak. I thought I was bad enough, but she could talk for England. Hence my not being on here very much.

Thanks Linda for keeping the love chain for Jean and Jeff going.
Reading Caz's thread, it seems that Jeff is taking small steps in the right direction. Lord help him to continue in this way, and give our Jean strength to see him through to a full recovery.

Have you started the decorating yet Linda. lol

Huia,I must ask you about the photo you have posted on here. I am having problems trying to make out who and what it is.

I do hope that everyone is o.k, as it has been very quiet on here.

Sallie Report 29 May 2011 19:12

Hi Girls,

It's very, very quiet on this thread. I think we must have all given up talking.lolol!!

Alun was on holiday last week, so I haven't had much time to come on here. I've also been busy making cards, for a few birthdays and two wedding anniversaries.

It's Jennie's 26th birthday today, so yesterday evening we all went out for a meal to celebrate, to the place where Jennie and Michael had their wedding reception .... a lovely place, in beautiful grounds and lovely food. Years ago it was a farm, so all the old stone buildings have been converted into restaurants. It's also got a golf course and a hotel.

Today Jennie and Michael came for our usual Sunday roast..

I've also been busy baking today, I had some stork and eggs that were getting near their sell buy date, and didn't want to throw them out. So we've now got some cakes to eat......and now I feel well and truly
"cream crackered".lol!

Good to see on Caz's thread that Jeff is improving slowly. I hope and pray that he will make a complete recovery.

Huia, I got the hearing aid for my left ear, on Thursday. It's great to be able to hear a lot better, but the top of my ear gets really sore, I had the same trouble when I first had it with the one for my right ear, until I got use to wearing it. So hopefully the new one will be the same.

How were things with Phil when you last visited him? I hope that he was
awake and alert while you were there.

Mo, I'm sure you enjoyed having your granddaughter to stay, even though she talked all of the time. You'll have to invest in a good pair of ear plugs for when stays with you the next time.lolol!! Bless her!

How is Lilly? When are the results of the baby competition announced?
Lets all hope that she'll win.

Ann, sorry I haven't had time to send you the photos for your blog. I'll send them as soon as I can.

Tess, you sound as though you have been very busy. Isn't it great to be able to think about what chores need to be done, rather than sit there and try and get our head round what's got to be done!

Mo in Kent Report 29 May 2011 19:23

Sallie, that baby competition seemed to be fixed, no one was able to vote, so we don't know who the winners were.
Apparantly the same people were voting several times, for the same child, during the same day, and the people holding the competition stopped the voting on facebook.
A friend entered her grandchild last year in another competition, and people were only able to vote, once a day.

Still no news from Jean then I see. We can only hope and pray thats a good sign.

Huia Report 29 May 2011 21:33

Sallie, what is stork? I know there is a bird of that name, but do you use it for baking? I am really scratching my head over that one.

Mo, the picture is me standing behind an over-sized statue of a Huia, in the botanic gardens. I am singing 'Me, and my statue' rather than me and my shadow.

Must dash, I want to go out to try to get an improvement in these hearing aids this morning, then work in the hospice shop in the afternoon. I might even be able to fit in a visit to Phil in the morning. Not that it is very exciting as he often doesnt even look at me, and rarely speaks.

Hi Mo

I can believe that , I kept trying and trying to vote for Lilly, but I couldn't get onto the site to vote, which at the time I thought was a bit of a con.......now you've confirmed that it was. Oh well, maybe one day there will be a genuine baby competition that Lilly could be entered for, and that she will win.

Caz, like Mo I also couldn't make out what was in front of Huia, so thanks for letting us know.

Speak to you all soon.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Hi Huia,

Yes I use Stork for baking, it's just a brand name of margarine or whatever they call it these days. The brand name has been around for a good many years now, as my nan mostly used it for baking.

Good luck with getting your hearing aids sorted out.

Love, Sallie.xxx

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 29 May 2011 21:52

Huia Stork is a type of margarine used for cooking.

Don't worry about the photos Sally plenty of time. Make sure the tubes on your sid is not too short which would make your ear sore.

I have just added about 100 photos to my photo blog. Anyone who has not got the address PM me and I will give it to you. They are photos of this last holiday.
Adding my links to the chain for Jean and Jeff

Hi Ann,

I thought I might give it a week or two, and if I'm still having trouble with the left hearing aid, I'll give them a ring. I have quite a few photos of my cards to send, so I'll send them a few at a time.

I would like to see the photos on your blog, so please could you PM me the address. Thanks Ann.

I thought that the day had started well. Pegged the washing out before 8am A bit of a breeze, so I thought that the washing would dry quickly.. however....my line prop broke.!!!!!
Luckily nothing on the line was really long, so washing was not touching the ground. Must confess though to being a little peeved.

Didn't do any knitting today, was adding to the family tree instead.
The full story about knitting the scarf (yes, I admit it, I only told half the tale before), is that I bought a pack of three balls of bright pink fur style double knitting "wool".
Instructions came with the pack. Gave size of needles and then instructed to cast on 37 stitches...
The rest of the instructions were pretty much what I said previously.

It's way past my bedtime, so goodnight from the UK 0.53 Monday

Huia Report 30 May 2011 08:14

Hello girls.

Yes, this morning when I was using some Flora margarine it suddenly occurred to me that I had heard of Stork marge. We dont have that brand here.

I go back tomorrow to get them to look at my hearing aids. I hope they can be made to work on the phone and when people are talking to me. I have had to ask a couple of people to repeat themselves. They also seem to buzz when I am near electronic devices, e.g. the bedside clock, the clock on my stove, my computer monitor, various gadgets in shops (possibly the fluorescent lights). I also feel as if I am wearing earmuffs as I can only hear myself talking from the inside, not from the outside if you know what I mean.

After making the appointment I went to visit Phil. He did open his eyes a couple of times, and at one stage he spoke but I couldnt hear what he said, and he had a drink. I had to take one hearing aid out as the 2 people in the 'quiet room' next to us were making a lot of noise. I was tempted to shut the door, but felt I shouldnt.

I came back to Papakura and had my lunch then went to the hospice shop for the afternoon. I bought a CD rack and 2 plates and a matching dish that took my fancy, and a mirror for my handbag (it is like a compact, it closes), and a book. All for $10.50. That would be about 4 of your pounds, at a guess.

Dinner finished, must wash the day's dishes and make the bed.

Hi girls from a very wet Yorkshire, I had a good message from Jean this morning so copied it and will paste it here. "last night when we went to see Jeff, he squeezed our hand every time we asked him and opened his eyes, the biggest surprise was when I stood up and asked him if he could see me and and he nodded his head, then Debra asked a question and he did it again, he is still poorly and the man who did the operation came last night and said he is doing very well.... it was brilliant although quite emotional, both Debra and myself were really tired and I slept all night but still feel weary...". Isn't that good, take little steps Jeff and you will get there.

I remember using the hard block of Stork when we were children as non of us would eat butter, I use it now for baking but only the block.

Caz xx

I meant to say Mo I couldn't get on either to vote for Lily, thought it was just me.

Sallie Report 30 May 2011 10:54

Morning everyone,

Caz, thank you for passing on the good message from Jean. I hope and pray that he will continue to improve. Still sending lots of hugs and positive thoughts to Jean and family.

Do you know, I had forgotten about that hard block of stork, of course that was the one both my mother and my nan always used for baking. Even after Stork brought out the tub of margarine, my mother still liked using the block.......she thought that the cakes turned out better using that.

The weather is really miserable here, it's cold and raining quite steadily, just hope it will get better throughout the day.

Well I'm going to make myself a cuppa .....nothing new for me, I know.lol!!
I'll look in again later on today.

Take care.

Have sent you the address as requested Sallie, hope you enjoy the photos on there.

Huia, it takes a while before you don't 'hear' yourself in your head with the aids. I have trouble with the phone, my aids whistle when I try to use it. As there are 2 of us I leave the phoning to T but, if I were left on my own I'd have to do something about it. You used to be able to buy phones that carried the hearing aid logo to let you know they were compatable with aids, but with so many phones on the markey now you don't seem to get that unless you go to specialist people.

I have to take my aid out of my left ear to answer the phone, otherwise I can hardly hear what the caller is saying. Alun usually answers the phone when he's at home, so it gives me a bit of time to get my aid out......so when I'm on my own, I worry in case the caller rings off before I can answer the phone to them.
