Like it Mo...

As you can see I have changed mine too. The Pohutukawa is our native Christmas tree, flowering bright red at this time of year, all along the beaches.

I visited Phil yesterday, he seemed much more like his old self. He was walking around and I even took him for a walk around the (enclosed) garden - not a very big garden, thank goodness as there was a cool breeze. I think he must have recognised me as he kept asking when we were going on the train. When he was in the public hospital I went by train to visit him. Anyway, I was so pleased that he was so improved, although apparently he wont go to bed until after 11pm and wakes at about 6am. But that is probably enough sleep for him since he is not doing much during the day. At home he would have been going on long walks (if he had somebody to take him!) and working in the garden and mowing the lawns. At least he seems quite settled in there, not belligerent as he was in the other hospital.

Huia, I am glad things went a little better for you with Phil, you must feel a lot easier now, how are you , you will have to tell us if you have any Christmas traditions, we just eat a lot and drink a lot...( only kidding or I will get lynched).

Such good news about Phil. Even though he is not wanting to go to bed
till 11.00p.m,that is not as bad as when he was at home,waking you up at
all different hours off the night,with cups off tea. And breakfast in the middle off the night,bless him.
If they would only realise,that if they took him tramping more,he would probably settle a lot better,at bed time.
They must have amended his medication,thank the lord. Especially as he taking more notice of things going on around him.
Is your choral practises finished? Are you doing a christmas service this year in the church.
I would love to go to the midnight service,on christmas eve,but as Roly will not go with me,I will not attend on my own. To many nutters around I am afraid.

Sallie where are you.

It is a bit of a mouthful, isnt it Jean. Here in NZ we have our own version of The 12 Days of Christmas. It is a Pukeko in a (I forget what, Puriri? Kauri? Rata?) Tree. And other Kiwi things.

Many people still have the traditional Xmas dinner but it is usually too hot for that. I just have a cold roast chook and ham and lettuce and tomatoes and beetroot and whatever. Family just help themselves to whatever they want. Followed by our Kiwi Pavlova (howls of protest from the ozzies) with cream and fruit salad. I sometimes have brandy snaps with cream. Not sure if I will be doing much this year. I just dont feel it will be christmas without Phil. Even though he was a bah humbug person about christmas. The hospital was going to have a christmas party, I am not sure when that will be.

I have just realised I had not read p87 before posting.

I doubt if the hospital can take him on long tramps as they probably dont have the staff to do it.

I will sing with the choir in their Christmas programme, 9 lessons and carols, I think. There will be only 3 practices starting next Tues. The choir usually also sings carols at the local hospice, all voluntary, no practices but we do carols that we have done lots of times. I didnt go last year and might not this year, it is always so hot and there are plenty of others there, but I might change my mind. I will see how I feel later. I might go to the Hunua Church Carol service, for the first time. Phil is very much anti-religion so I havent gone to such things, but now I can please myself.

The hospital has a resident cat called Dolly. They also have a small dog who visits sometimes so I asked if my son and his wife could take their 2 small dogs in if they had them with them. I was told that would be fine. I said it was a pity I couldnt take our cat in but was told 'why not'? I dont know if she would appreciate being put into a carry cage for the journey there and back. Maybe I should get a cat harness and lead, see how she likes it. I would be worried about Dolly chasing her away.

Oh Huia,I do hope you dont end up with a cat fight going on. Still it will wake the residents up a bit I suppose,and give them a bit of excitement. LOL.
I love carol services,they really put me in the mood for christmas. They seem to relax me somehow,and I come out feeling elated.
Are you going to family for christmas. It would be so nice for you,if you did.
You could visit Phil,before going to the family.
You maybe very upset if you don't visit them,and are left on your own.
Memories,of the good times with Phil at home,could make you sad.
But if you are in company,it will make it just that little easier.

MO, in past years the family have come here on Boxing Day. It means that Peter can spend Christmas day with his wife and her mother and Vivian with her m-i-l. I am not sure what we will do this year. Probably the same. I can visit Phil on Christmas Day. Not that it will mean anything to him, one day is the same as any other.

Well now I have to get used to the Christmassy names lol I stayed the same all year and I think even the year before that as well, boring aren't I?
Might add a few more sparkles nearer the time but don't want to end up deleting the whole name and losing it!

Huia, I am so very glad that Phil seems a little better - it must help you feel good when you visit as you see him a bit more animated and like your Phil. Let's hope he can have more exercise in some way to help him sleep well but he sounds as tho he is doing pretty good already.
You make the most of the things you can do now with no guilt or problem.

I am sure things will work out so you have a pleasant Christmas, you deserve to be spoiled a bit.

I hope that none off you here in the u.k have suffered by the floods.
We have had heavy rain,but not enough to cause flooding,thank the lord.
It was fairly dry today,but still very blowy.

Good morning MO and others. I am going to spend the day doing H*******k. If I dont get bored or tired, that is. The house is such a mess and with visitors expected tomorrow I feel it is time I got stuck in to the swearing.

stop using that swear word, H****w***. It's not in my vocabulary.
I do as little as I can get away with. When the spiders are knocking on the back door to get out,I know it's time I did something.

MO, I tell people I only sweep the floor if I am expecting visitors or my head is bumping the ceiling. Phil used to do it sometimes if it looked a bit messy but I dont have him to do it now and he used to insist on washing the dishes.

We have lots of spiders. My big complaint about them is the spots which I used to blame on flies. As we have fly screens on the windows and at the back door we dont get too many flies in so I am not sure how all the spiders survive. They are mostly daddy-long-legs, but we do get some of the white tailed spiders, which I understand can nip and if they have been feasting on something nasty the bite can turn septic. Not surprising, they came from Oz about 80 years ago. I wish they would go back there! At least we dont have any Oz snakes as yet. Hope we never do. (We love to 'hate' our Ozzie neighbours!)

Oh Huia,we have a lovely Ozzie friend on here Marie. But she is the exception to the rule. LOL
And I have got cousins over there as well. I have never met them,but speak to them frequently on the phone.
As for their snakes,and spiders,they can flaming keep them.

Yes MO, there are lots of lovely Ausies. It is just a game we play saying how awful they are, over the ditch. Quite a few Kiwis have moved over there, but I dont think I would like the heat - or the snakes. We do have a poisonous spider of our own, but I havent seen one. And we have the ugly (shhh, dont tell Ruud Kleinpaste I called them that) Weta, and the giant centipedes which can give a nasty nip. Ruud, aka The Bugman, was bitten once on his hand and his arm was numb for hours afterwards - but he still likes them, but then he likes all the creepy crawlies.
