Prayers and loving thoughts for Olivia Mai. Lord bless her and keep her safe and well.

Jean my lovely, thank you so much for your card.
I am afraid I have been very remiss this year, and have forgotten to buy my easter cards, so please forgive me.
There has been so much happening, that all normal thoughts have gone out of my head.
Why can life never be straight forward.

Sallie we had our last darts match on Monday night. We won 5-1 in the league, and 2-1 in the pairs.
We start the knockouts on the 16th of May.

Hi Linda, good to hear from you. You must be nearly finished in your garden now. Apart from putting the summer bedding plants in that is.
We hope to go to our local garden center tomorrow, to buy the plants.
We popped into B+@'s today, with the intentions of taking a look at their varieties, but it was so packed we gave up and came home.
I think they must be fine weather gardeners.

Well girls I will love you and leave you.
Take care everyone. Love and best wishes Mo xxx

Well, well,well girls, this is a lonely little thread today.
Everyone must be out enjoying the lovely sunshine.
We did our Easter Egg run today. Delivering the eggs to the grandchildren.
By the time we got to the last house, the chocolate had started to soften.
So straight into the fridge they went.
Even our eldest grandaughter was given chocolate, much against Roly's wishes. But she is our first born grandaughter, and I will not let her go without. Her baby is not far off of being born, so the baby will enjoy a little bit of chocolate as well. LOL

Marie, I hope you didn't overdo it pulling those weeds up.
I mowed the weeds, ( yes mowed) in my daughters garden today for her.
She is not able to do it herself, with her rheumatoid arthritus, so good old mum helped her out a bit.
I wanted to dig it over as well, but it was far to hot out there.
The ground I mowed, is a very rough patch that nothing grows in. I have suggested we lay a thick membrane down, and put shingle over it, so that she can have some pots spread around the area. But I will have to wait and see what she thinks later.
Marie, shock horror, we have actually bought the two fence panels, for the bottom of the garden, and they are being delivered tomorrow.
We will then stain them, or maybe I will be staining them, and I have arranged for my son in law, and grandson to come and give us a helping hand to put them up.
We cant do them on our own, as they are 6ft x 6ft panels, and need to be lifted into the posts. Thank goodness they are both very tall young men.

I hope everyone is enjoying a lovely weekend.
Take care my friends. Love and best wishes to you all. Mo xxx

Hello girls and anybody else who might look in.

The rats dont seem to be coming into the house (apart from the attic and basement) now that the cat is staying inside all the time.

I still have my concussion headache from 28 March but I think it is easing up now, thank goodness. I did see the doc a couple of days ago to ask her how long it would last and she said it could be another 4 weeks but to go back if I started to feel nauseous or dizzy. In fact I think she said to go straight to the hospital. I went for a walk at the botanic gardens afterwards, and went to visit Phil after lunch, and attend a meeting with the woman in charge of his wing, to discuss his health etc. They have him on a low bed as he keeps trying to get up in the night and falls and hurts himself.

I went over to The Valley yesterday for a walk. I should go for another today while it isnt raining.

Huia.

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Apr 2011 22:17

Goodness Huia, that is lasting

Did you tell us about getting a concussion? I've just read back, and can't see anyhting.

What on earth did you do?

It is quiet here ..... we are having a federal election, but you really wouldn't know it!

We vote on May 2nd, and so far I have had 2 phone calls from local candidates, both from the Liberal candidate. None from any of the others. No knocks on the door. No pamphlets in the post.

Good job I know who I am going to vote for, 'cos otherwise I wouldn't have any help in making a decision.

We went to a fund-raising Plant Auction on Wednesday night ....... and I won a large Daphne tangutica. OH planted it this morning, nect to another tangutica, and a couple of other Daphne species. The flowers are so sweetly scented!

Take care everyone

Huia Report 22 Apr 2011 23:05

Sylvia, on the afternoon of 28 March I was walking up a ramp to a parking building. As the sun was in my eyes I had my head down and walked into the end of a barrier arm that they use to close the ramp at night. It hurt but I didnt think much more of it as I wasnt seeing stars and didnt pass out, although I did wonder at the time if I would be safe to drive home. That night I had a 'tight' headache which has lasted. I went to the doc a fortnight later to get it checked out. While I dont think she said 'concussion' the questions she asked were obviously aimed at it: did I pass out, feel nauseous, etc. She just said take some strong painkillers. When I got home I googled concussion and it mentioned a 'tight' headache which can go on for some weeks.

I am not familiar with the Daphne tangutica. I cant find it in my book of plants. Mum used to have a D. genkwa which had purple flowers and a lovely scent.

nasty!

You probably did give yourself a mild concussion ..... which means you should be taking it easy!

D genkwa is the common daphne in gardens, and it does have a lovely scent.

D tangutica has pale pink flowers, sweetly scented, and can grow up to 3'

I think the common Daphne grown in NZ is D. odora. I will have a look at those sites. Pity we cant click on the things here to take us to them, every time I have to type in a new site one of my old ones drops off the bottom of the drop-down menu. I have to keep a list in a notebook.

Zack Report 23 Apr 2011 05:22

Hi Huia , yes you are right, our common Daphne is also D. odora and I think it is the nicest one of the lot I have not heard of D.tangutica but will look it up also.
I hope you have gotten rid of the headache, and it is good that the rats have left your house .
We are having a plague of mice ( the field mice) they are looking for a warm place for winter, their was one in my veggie garden probably nibling at my beans..
Hi Sylvia, we are having a beautiful day to-day, I and some friends went to the Farmers markets this morning and it was packed the veggies were lovely and the variety was amazing. I bought a few plants & some chutney .

We had some lunch while there, the coffee was excellent and it is Australiant Grown, also had an egg & bacon roll , the roll was great home made also.

LindainBerkshire hello to you,I hope you are well.
Mo things are sure moving along for you.
You should paint the panels before they go up. Have you had your visit from Lilly or is it this weekend.

Dear Jean how is the vertigo when do you get your results?

I wonder when Dutch gets the results on her Grandaughter Olivia Mai?

Hi Dutch I hope you and Jan are well.

Caz the same with you I hope the side effect's of the Chimo are easing.

Love and Hugs to you all

Hi Everyone,

Yippee! I finished the last of the Easter cards last night, so maybe I will be able to spend a bit of time on here now.lolol!!

I'd just like to wish all my English friends on here a Happy Saint George's
Day.

Would also like to wish everyone a Very Happy Easter.

A couple came to view our house at lunch time, they liked it and are interested in buying it, if and when they can sell their bungalow.
It's a shame that their bungalow isn't around this area, as we could do a swap.

Caz, hope the horrible effects of the chemo is starting to wear off for you now. I hope your results are all alright on Wednesday. Sending you lots of positive thoughts and hugs.

Huia, take things easy and rest as much as you can until your headache has gone.

We went over to Jennie's this afternoon to take her and Michael an Easter Egg each, and a bunch of flowers for Jennie. She loves to have fresh flowers in the house when she can, so I thought that it would be nice to take her some for Easter.

Mo, have you finished your Easter Egg run now? I find that the older ones like to have an Easter Egg too, so buy them for those as well as the younger ones. Although I haven't got any grandchildren, but buy them for friends children and grandchildren.

Great to hear that your team won last Monday night.

Jean, I hope you are feeling better and are able to make cards now.
Also hope all is well with J and D.

~~~~~~to Sylvia, Marie, Ann, Tess, Joyce and Linda.
Love and best wishes. Sallie
Cooee Sallie.
Thank you for the lovely Easter Card. You Jean and Joyce, are very clever.
I don't believe anyone would be able to purchase such great cards from a shop. And they mean far more to the person who receives them, as so much time and effort has gone into them.
What a shame that the people who came to view your house, are out of your prefered area, as an exchange would have saved time and money no doubt.
Are any of the family coming to you for Sunday dinner tomorrow.
We will be on our own, but will go up to the club for a few games of darts, and to see our friends.
Oh Huia, you poor thing. Fancy banging your noggin like that. I hope that the headaches ease off soon.
Did they say how Phil is coping at the meeting, and if he is progressing, or regressing quicker than they thought he would.
I thought they would have put him in a lower bed sooner than this, as he had a couple of falls from his bed some time ago didn't he.
Did you manage to get your walk over in The Valley again.
Sylvia, a fund raising plant auction, sounds like fun. I wish we had something like that over here.
I had never heard of the plant you won, but then I am not a brilliant gardener, and normally just buy the same plants that I buy every year. Apart from the perrenials, I have already got planted outside, I am not very
experimental with new varieties.
Marie, please keep your little field mice over there. Both Huia and I have had enough of our own vermin to cope with.
Saucy little blighters having a feast on your veggie patch, you need that for yourself for the winter months.
LOL Roly is out in the garden, painting the fence panels as I post on here.
But suddenly it has become very overcast, I just hope and pray that it doesn't rain before they are dry. I don't want to stop him now that he has started, it takes me long enough to get him motivated at the best of times.
I thought our son would bring Lilly and his other two children over to see us today, but no. Still never mind, they have got their own lives to lead.
I wonder if Ann and T are still having a good time. And also if Ann's cold has dried up yet.
Sending big (((((((((((HUGS FOR JEAN, CAZ AND JOYCE.)))))))))))))))
Not forgetting our friends Tess and Liz, and anyone I may have forgotten to mention.
Bye for now my friends. Love to all Mo xxx
Hi girls, Huia I hope your headache doesn't last much longer, you will have to take it easy for a while as Sallie suggests.
Sallie what a shame the two houses are not close as it would have been perfect for you, thank you for your beautiful card that arrived this morning. I've been too ill to bother sending any, let alone making any.
I've not been on here for a while as the chemo is making me ill, sickness as well as my hair falling out, I hate it, it's not coming out in clumps but one by one but I can see my scalp through it. Non of the other chemos I've had in the past have affected me like this.
Sorry for being a miserable old crank but I am so depressed at the moment with it all, going for a cuppa now.
Love Caz xx
Sallie Report 23 Apr 2011 19:55
Hi Mo,
Pleased that you received my Easter card. I was bit behind finishing them all, because of the probs we had last week. Hope the others I sent have arrived safely too.
We are only having Jennie and Michael coming for Sunday dinner tomorrow. It would have been nice if Richard and Christie could come too, but Richard only has tomorrow off, and they can't really afford the cost of the petrolto come up here.. Never mind, as long as they are both okay that's the main thing.
Alun and I will probably go down to see them before too long.
We are hoping to go down when Richard will get some time off, to help them decorate a couple of rooms. They could really do with a biggger place to live, but I know it's out of the question at the moment. Funds don't allow!!
Maybe your son will bring Lily and his other two children over to see you tomorrow......he's probably hoping to surprise you and Roly.
Hope Roly finished painting the fence and that it didn;t come to rain. I know there are some thunder storms forecast.
Well Mo, you and Roly have a lovely Easter Day tomorrow, and enjoy yourselves at the club with your friends.
Take care.
Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx
Now why does everybody tell me to take it easy? I do that all the time! I need to go for a long walk today as I cooked a packet of butter chicken for my dinner last night and this morning I find I have put on another 600gms. The meal was mainly rice, about 5 times the amount I would normally use for a meal, plus the bits of chicken in a sauce. There didnt seem to be any veges in it. I wont buy one of those again, although it tasted ok. I dont think I will be getting a long walk as rain is forecast. Probably will just walk a few times round the outside of the house.
Caz, sorry that you are still suffering the affects of the chemo. Have you asked why it is different this rime. I hope it will stop affecting you soon.
Yes thanks Mo my cold has gone now. Our weather is stillpatchy, lovely this afternoon, really hot then this evening while we were still in the bar down the road and about reafdy to walk home it chucked it down. Luckily it is still quite warm so getting wet is not so bad. Trouble is, as soon as it rains the TV goes off.
Hi all
xxx
It was a lovely lovely day today ................ warm, cloudless blue skies, and sunny ......... and I went shopping downtown!
Didn't buy anything much .............. did find one of those cross-body bags that wasn't too large, but yet had room in it (if you know what I mean!!). It was made of some sort of material (nylony), so wasn't very expensive.
I really like shoulder bags, but have problems with having to use the cane. I have always carried everyhting on my left shoulder ...... and I have the cane in my left hand, so bags slip off my shoulder within seconds! I've tried a backpack
I've been pushing wallets in my pockets etc etc.
Happy Easter everyone
Sylvia, I have a large handbag with a long handle so I can sling it diagonally across my shoulder. I also bought a small one, but my wallet wont fit into it. Plus I have one made of some sort of fabric, it was free when I bought some expensive sandals a couple of years ago. Very handy. They all leave my hands free for other things.
