Ann, I just don't know where the time is going. It doesn't seem like a year since we were preparing for last Christmas. I have to get the presents wrapped for Alun's sister and brother-in-law by the time they come and visit us next week, because I'm not sure that we'll see them again before Christmas....I still have one more present to get for them....and haven't a clue what to get.

I'm going to Derby later on this morning. I thought that it would be better for me to go and get what we need today instead of tomorrow. The trouble is when we go to Derby early on Saturday morning as we usually do, I don't always feeling like doing much when we get home.lol!!

Linda, after Alun's mother and my two uncles died we had a lot of photos from the three houses and only a few of them had anything written on the back of them. We had to throw quite a few photos away because Alun's sister, my brother and ourselves didn't have a clue who the people in the photos were.

I think years ago the older members of the family knew who they were on the photo so didn't think there was any need to write the names on the back. I wish they had thought about the younger generation.lolol!!

It sounds as though you have a busy weekend, hope it all goes well.

I'm going to get ready to go to Derby now so will speak to you all later on. Have a good day everyone.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Linda, my cards are very basic I assure you. And I am sure people appreciate the effort you put in especially, as this year, when you have other things going on in your life.

Hello Ladies.

Well I went to Derby and got the usual things....I had hoped to get one or two more Christmas presents, but what I wanted to buy I either couldn't get the right size or the colour and the other things I thought to buy, had sold out. I should have got them when I seen them and not dithered about if they were the right thing or not.

Alun is out tonight, he's gone to look at some films of steam trains with his mates from the club. Boys and their toys.lol!!

Mo. if you are looking in, did your team win last night?

Ann did Shaun on the Wales thread manage to get onto your blog? I know from reading his thread that he couldn't get onto it.

Thinking of Sylvia, Caz, Joyce, Linda,Huia, Marie, Jude, Betty, Jean
and Tess and anyone I might have forgotten.Hope you are all alright.

I'll say bye for now, speak to you all soon.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Hi Sallie,
Yes love we won last night. Thank goodness our captain had a tight hold on the game, as we were playing the boozy team.
They were not to bad last night, just very very loud, and thats saying something, especially as we are not a particulary quiet team ourselves, but we could not even hear ourselves think, let alone play properly.
But Joan is the league secretary, and she got them moving. Other teams have complained about them in the past, as they take so long on the games, and tend to make the evening into an all nighter almost.
Some teams have not got away from the venue till past midnight, but we were away by 11p.m.

Tomorrow we are going to see our sons three children. There is so much excitement in their house, knowing that it is nearly Christmas.
My sons OH wanted to put the decorations up already, as she has bought new ones.
Ours are years old, and they come out every year, with just a few new ones added. But we only really put them up for the grandchildren, they are only dust collectors.

Linda I hope that mum is settling in better now. When my Mum went into the care home, she refused to go down to the lounge, and as she put it she didn't want to mix,"with the old folk" she was in her 80's herself. lol

I hope all our good friends are all feeling better today.

Night night god bless you. Love Mo xxx

Hello Ladies, didn't have time to come on here yesterday.....so was very sad and upset to see the news about Daff. She was one very lovely lady and will be sorely missed by so many members.

Such sad news about Daff wasn't it. But isn't it nice that the Genes Team have taken the time to add to her condolences thread, and good to see it stickied as well. She was one popular member of Genes and is so badly missed. But, knowing Daff, I am trying to drag myself out of the doldrums as she would be very cross. Daff never stayed grumpy or miserable for long and would want to know that we were celebrating her life rather than being miserable. So T and I raised a glass or two (or three) to her last night and remembered the good times we'd had when we met her. I am sure this past year have not been very nice for her as she will have been so confused and weak so now she is at peace, no pain and no confusion.

Hello Ladies,

Ann yes it was lovely to see that the GR Team took the time to add their condolences to the thread for Daff. It's all so sad, even though I never met her we would sometimes send each other PM's. I hadn't posted on her thread for a long while, although read it most days .... I no longer knew what to write on there.

I've had a very busy weekend, I've bought most of the Christmas presents and wrapped them all....but still haven't written any cards. So today I'm hoping that I can at least start doing that and also make a couple of birthday cards.

Mo, pleased to hear that your team won on Thursday night. Keep it up so that your team will win tonight. Good luck.

Jean nice to see you back on here... you sound just like me, I make the cards the give them to others and then have to make more for myself.lol!!

Huia, it looks as though you are still one very busy lady.

Well I'm going to make a start on the cards now, so may look in again later on.

Mo in Kent Report 21 Nov 2011 15:59

Good afternoon girls,
Another very miserable day here in Kent. Yesterday it was lovely, but this morning we could not see a hand in front of our faces, for the fog. It has been many years since we had a pea souper like this.
If I remember rightly, it was way back in the 1960's since it was this bad.
I dread to think of people travelling to work, on the motorways this morning. I just hope they slowed down, instead of driving like lunatics, in bad weather like it is at the moment.
I know I am a worrier, but my son has quite a way to drive down to Canterbury for his work, and the motorway gets very busy at peak hour times.

Jean it's lovely to have you back with us again. I missed you honey. How the devil are you all.
It sounds like you have been keeping yourself busy with your card making.
Is Jeff still progressing well.
I hope you got on o.k at the doctors, and they were able to give you the answers you were looking for.

Ann, I was thinking of Daff again this morning, and had to chuckle about the time when we were doing the collection for Izzy, and Daff was " Collecting plants for her garden ", what a brilliant woman she was, and oh how she made us laugh at her antics.
She will be sadly missed by us all........but she would not want us to be sad, just happy that we had the joy she bought to us all on here, and those who knew her personally.

Sallie, get the kettle on gal, me thinks we all need cheering up. Put the cards down for a bit and come and have a good ol chinwag with us. ;-)
We went to see our youngest grandchildren over the weekend. Our son has started to decorate the childrens bedroom again for them.
I didn't realise that our son could be so artistic, he has drawn a lot of Winnie the Poo characters on the wall, and painted them in their traditional colours.
He certainly didn't inherit this skill from either Roly or myself, we are not artistic at all.
I was absolutely gob smacked when I looked on my face book wall, and discovered them there.
He's cleverer than I ever gave him credit, and he drew them all free hand, no stencils were used at all.

Well my friends, if Sallies not making this ere cup of tea, I will have to go and make one myself.
So toodle pip for now. Love Mo xxx

Well today I have made a birthday card for grandson's fiancee, written loads of letters long overdue and wrapped up a couple of Christmas presents. Other than that I don't seem to have done a lot. Oh yes walked round for the papers and decided to post all my foreign cards before the post office develops long queues. I know they will all get there early but at least hopefully they will get there. (Over £8 in postage!!) Good job for the UK ones I had stocked up with second class stamps before they went up in April by buying a couple of books a week. So I only had to buy 4 books for the Christmas cards as I already had the rest.

Ann, I posted my cards to OZ and NZ today, also bought some second class stamps, shock horror, it cost me over £17.00. I thought I had misheard her when she said how much was.
Got to get ready for darts now girls, speak to you tomorrow. Byeee love Mo xxx

Sallie Report 21 Nov 2011 20:56

Hi Girls,

Oh Mo I couldn't get over how much you had to pay for the second class stamps....I will have to buy the stamps soon too.

I have to get the presents and the cards written ready to give to Alun's sister on Saturday. We have decided that we will go up there this time as Alan (brother-in-law) seems to be getting agitated quite a bit lately, so we all thought that if he's near home when we go out for lunch it will be a bit easier if he get's too bad. Bless him.

Yes Mo it was funny when Daff was asking if we would like to give some plants when she was collecting for Izzy's son. When I first read the thread, I thought I had lost the plot.lolol!!!

Was your son good at art when he was in school? He must be good to draw and paint some of the Winnie the Pooh characters. Well done to him!

Ann, you have done well today, I'm sure you must feel relieved that they are all done, especially the letters. Not one of my favourite jobs I must say.lol!!

I have to go and get two more presents tomorrow for Lynda'sS-i-L's granddaughters, I haven't got a clue on what to buy for them.
Also need to buy some more ribbon so that I can finish a card off.

We haven't heard from quite a few of our friends for a few days, hope all is well with them all and thier families.

Speak to you tomorrow.

Take care!

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Huia Report 22 Nov 2011 00:52

I went out this morning and dismantled one of our double billboards as it had been knocked over (or blown by the wind?). One of the actual billboards is missing, I think somebody has taken it as the wind cant possibly have blown it so far that there was absolutely no sign of it. Our billboards have to be down by Friday night, so I didnt see any point in trying to put the one up again on my own. It took me a couple of hours to take things apart and get them into the back of the ute to bring home. Hot work in the sun.

Good afternoon ladies.
How are we all this fine but cold day. No snow yet, so lets hope and pray we get away with it this year.
I had to take Roly up to the doctors again today, bless him he is still in a lot of pain.
The doctor is still thinking he has got Kidney stones.
His appointment for his Scan came through for the 7th of December, so much for it being an emergency.

Huia, what are you doing lifting those heavy bill boards in the heat. You will do your self a damage if you are not careful love.
Lucky you having some sun over there, can you send us a few days of it please.

Sallie when my son was at school, he used to do a lot of doodles, like kids do, but nothing on this scale.
When my brother was a child, he wanted to do cartoon sketches, but never pursued the career, he became a general builder instead, doing things with his hands in that direction. Stupid boy could have made a fortune at it, or so I thought at the time. lol ;-)

I am doing us a lovely Sweet and Sour Pork for our dinner tonight. I felt like having something different for a change.
Now Roly would have chips with everything he eats, given the choice that is, so he gets no choice.

I hope you are all o.k, take care. Love Mo xxx

Huia Report 23 Nov 2011 19:28

It is raining here at present. I hope it clears up quickly. My daughter has agreed to help me pull down the last 2 billboards this afternoon. She probably will wish she hadnt agreed, with this weather.

The actual bill board is made of corflute, about 3ft by 6ft, not too heavy. The frame to which it is attached is timber which I will have to dismantle to some extent to get it all in the ute.

Huia.
