Hi all

Jean ..... I am so very sorry to hear about the loss from your Paypal account. Do hope they can sort it out, and you will get the money back.

Huia ........ that's not bad for a small party!

It's pouring with rain here .............. so hope this doesn't follow the wind Mo, or you'll be wet in bed :-D

Linda ........ what a wonderful find ......... IF you can identify the people!

Huia Report 27 Nov 2011 00:36

Sylvia, we used to be a bigger party but due to various other things we are not so big at present. We actually got 21% of the vote nation-wide about 30 years ago, but as we had first-past-the-post voting - no MMP in those days - we had only a couple of seats in parliament, seats which we had actually won. Small parties have proliferated since MMP has been introduced. Unfortunately, unless they put up a candidate the local media will not give them any coverage, and meet-the-candidate meetings are not interested in hearing from a representative of those parties. How are we supposed to get our policies across, unless we take out expensive adverts in the local papers throughout the country, or pay for leaflets to be delivered throughout the country? It is not a level playing field as it should be in a democracy. This is why I became a candidate, so that I could speak at meetings, not that there were many, and be reported in local newspapers, except that the reporters and editors twisted my words to give a wrong impression. Hard work.

Huia.

SylviaInCanada Report 27 Nov 2011 00:40

Huia

I would imagine it would be very hard work, indeed.

You are to be congratulated for trying.

We in BC had to vote some years ago on a referendum for changing our first-past-the post system ........ and the committee came up with this quite terrible mish-mash of variations on your MMP system!

Fortunately, it was voted down ............. although first-past-the post does need changing.

What an horrendous night, never stopped raining against the windows and the wind was worse than I've known it for a long time. Glad I'm not going out today as it's still windy.
I will be ringing Jean later today and hope she feels a bit calmer, and also hope she can get her money back. It does sound a lot Ann but she buys an awful lot for her card making as she makes a lot for a couple of charity shops as well.

AnninGlos Report 27 Nov 2011 13:40

What I meant Caz was that you don't need to carry that amount in paypal as it is very quick and easy to transfer money as you want it. But maybe somebody sent money thatw as not actually in her account. (That sounds weird but I know what I mean, if somebody bought something using her account then paypal would chase her for the money.

I understand what you mean Ann, you could be right, I don't know how paypal works. I didn't get round to ringing her as my back was so bad I spent most of today laid flat. I will ring her in the morning.

Good gracious, where is everyone? Christmas shopping? It is two days since anyone posted. Not a nice day here today, very grey and very wet and windy. we did pop out to the local garden centre but otherwise have stayed home doing not a lot. Can't work up enthusiasm for housework when it all looks so dark and drab. Just stirred myself and made three birthday cards, written a couple of Christmas letters but not done anything else. Was wondering about going into town tomorrow as I have some stuff for the charity shop but wonder if it will be chaotic with the strikes.

Has anyone heard anything from Jean? I hope they have got the problem sorted out.

Heard of another death today - the 4th this year - this time it is a long term (fifty+ years) penfriend from cyprus who apparently died in July. She was not ill for long, had a virus then heart failure, she had led a good life being very adventurous going to all sorts of foreign places on her own. Her annual letters used to entertain me with tales of her travels. She was in her late seventies, I shall miss her letters. I hope that is the last one this year. That is the trouble with getting older, all your friends are as well. Then you begin to wonder when it will be your turn!!

Anyway I hope everyone is OK and that the reason nobody is on here is because you are all busy. :-) :-)

Hi Ann and everyone else, I haven't been on because I've not been too good. I didn't ring Jean for the same reason but I've told myself I must ring her tomorrow and make sure she is ok. I would be lost without my computer, it's my route to the outside world, I hope she has hers up and running, but when I think of it she would be on here if she had, silly girl.

Sorry you have not been well Caz, hope you are beginning to feel better. Yes I'd be lost without my computer too. But I am not sure what staying off the computer is going to do to help really.

YorkshireCaz Report 29 Nov 2011 18:00

Hi Ann, Jeans computer went wrong and is being sorted now.
My back will never get better and the morphine I'm on doesn't help much now so I will have to have a word with my Mcmillans nurse about upping the dose. Theres got to be something better in life than what I have, I would love to go out walking again, even if it is only round the village to my sisters.

Mo in Kent Report 29 Nov 2011 19:50

Well hello girls,
Sorry to have been missing for a couple of days, but here I am, all bright and chirpy.
Despite this miserable weather, I am looking forwards to christmas with the grandchildren.
Our son wanted us to go to him for dinner, but he has not got the table room to sit seven of us, so they are going to come here to us.
The only stipulation he has made is that he does the cooking. He also wants us to go to their house early, so that we can see baby Lilly opening her presents.
For goodness sake she is only ten months old, and this first christmas is not going to mean a lot to her, bless her, but we are going to go anyway, to get into the christmas spirit.

Caz, I am sorry you are going through a bad patch again. Increasing the morphine may help short term, but what happens when you become immune to it again. Is there nothing else on the market they can give you to help with the pain. I hate to hear you are feeling so poorly love.

Ann, this time of year, we all seem to hear of the death of some of our good friends, but you have been very unlucky this year haven't you.
Lets pray that next year is better for all of us.
Do you know if the strike is going to affect the buses running properly. If there are no buses, you will probably be safe going into town, thats if the businesses are able to open if staff can get to work of course. I know a lot of people do still rely on public transport to get to work.

I wonder if Sallie is o.k, as I don't remember her posting either, and thats most unlike her.

I hope our Jean is getting over the terrible shock, and that the rotten swine has been apprehended, for taking her money out of her account.

Must go now girls, take care of yourselves. Love to all, Mo xxx

Hello girls, I am still around, looking in each day, but I am buzzing around like a blue-tailed fly so havent posted. I have worked in the hospice shop the last 2 afternoons and am in it again this afternoon. The first one of these was my regular turn, the other 2 were relieving for other people.

I have recieved 3 Christmas cards from overseas, but havent got around to sending any yet. They may be late this year!

Better get on with sorting out what I want to take to town this afternoon.

AnninGlos Report 29 Nov 2011 22:03

Ah there is life in the thread after all. Caz, sorry you just said you had not been well I didn't realise it was your back, I realise that won't get better but I hope they can find something else to help dull the pain, it must be so wearing. I had not realised that Jean's pc had actually gone wrong, i thought that she was not allowed to use it until her daughter had sorted out how Pay pal had been hacked. Hope she gets it fixed soon then as it is used for her daughter's work I believe.

Mo, you will enjoy watching baby Lily opening her presents. Miracle baby if she does but you will enjoy the excitement of her parents. And make sure that you do not get lumbered with the cooking at Christmas. I know the good intentions are there but..... :-D

I don't know about the buses but I don't think they are affected at all. If they were we definitely wouldn't go to town as that is how we get there.

Sallie Report 29 Nov 2011 23:38

Hello Girls,

Gosh it's five days since I posted on here, I don't know where the time has gone. I've sorted out most of the Christmas cards and presents, so just got a few more to do now. We took all the Christmas presents and cards up to Alun's sister's on Saturday so don't have to worry about them now.

Apart from the weather we had a lovely day with Lynda and some of the family on Saturday. We had lunch at an Italian restaurant in Ilkley, it was very good but expensive.

Alun's brother-in-law seems to have deteriorated since we last seen him in August and he's also lost weight. It's so sad to see him as he is now, I've shed a few tears for him since Saturday even though I know it won't change anything.

Ann sorry to hear about the death of your friend, as you say, the trouble with getting older, all or most of our friends and of course any brothers, siters and cousins we have are getting older too.

Caz, lovely to hear from you, but sorry that you haven't been feeling very well lately.
I still can't send a pm to anyone, I'm just fed up of the new message centre.

Mo, you'll really love the excitement of seeing Lilly ' opening ' her pressies on Christmas morning. It's nice that your son wants you and Roly to be there too. But make sure that you don't end up cooking the dinner.lol!!

Huia you are a busy bee. Where on earth do you get the energy from?

How are things with Phil these days. Hope he was awake when you have last visited him.

Linda, hope your mum has settled down in the care home. I don't envy you having to clear out your mum's house. It was a job that none of our family were keen to do after the deaths of our parents and also two of our uncles.....but of course it had to be done.

Well girls it's late now so will say goodnight and will speak to you all tomorrow.

Hope all our other friends on this thread are OK.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Sallie, have you contacted gR about not being able to send messages? When you say you can't send them what is happening? Do you click on a name and get the error message? Sometimes I get that 2 or 3 times which is annoying but if I persevere it goes eventually.

Well we did go into town this morning and took some christmas ornament s to the charity shop. Lots of people carrying placards and in Wetherspoons at 12, the march started at 1pm. We had an early meal in Wetherspoons, had a breakfast at 11.45 then came straight home afterwards so as not to get caught up in anything. Annoying though, when we got home there was a message on the answer phone to say a ring I had taken in to be made larger was ready for collection (in town).

Sallie

Sallie Report 30 Nov 2011 13:55

Ann, when I've tried to send a pm, nothing at all happens, no error message or anything else, it just stays as it is.

I did try to get in touch with Estelle and also Phil, but for some reason there didn't seem anywhere that I could compose a message
on. Alun looked at it with me so I know it wasn't just me not being able to work things out.lol!! He thinks that GR need to sort their message site out so that it is easier for the majority of people to understand how it works.

It's typical, after you've been into town that you get the phone call to tell you the ring is ready. It's a shame you didn't call in on the off chance to see if it was ready, but then it probably wouldn't have been.lolol!!

Sylvia, glad to hear that you are and OH are both OK and that you haven't had any problems with gales that you are having. Take care and stay safe.

Well it's Wednesday again, shopping day.....it seems to come round quicker each week. It must be the age think, the older we get the quicker the time goes by.

Speak to you all later on.

Take care everyone.

Love, Sallie,xxx
