Hi Everyone.......its me ...!!

Hope you are all keeping well,

The sun is shinning today its a lovely autumn one and its making me want to wash all my bed linen, so that's first on the list today.

Getting ready for my winter holiday in USA, keep changing the clothes that I have laid out.....why ?......because hubby frightens me with the weight restrictions !!

I have one more lot of baby sitting to do for a week in Norwich, and usually have a coffee with the lovely Purple Liz, but as I'm needed during the day I wont be able to see her this time.

So that's next week then I'm only home for one day ,then I'm off .

So now its bath time......then house work !!

Speak soon & take care all of you .

Hello All,

Huia, I'm so pleased that your calendars are selling well. Just the right time of the year to give for Christmas gifts. It would be good if you could get some thinner track bottoms for Phil, as he might be more comfortable in them.

Debbie, as usual you are very busy. I'm glad that you enjoyed the schools performance of ' Grease ' last night. I use to love going to watch the musicals when Richard and Jennie were in Secondary School. Richard was in the school orchestra, and Jennie always had a part in the production.

Marilyn, it looks as though you are going to be away for some time. Will you take your laptop with you this time?

Mo, hope you have a lovely meal out tonight, and that you'll have a great time, Please wish your grandson a very happy birthday from me. How old is he today? One of the members of the Model Railway Club is sixty today so we are going to the celebrations tonight---he doesn't know anything about it, his wife has kept it as a surprise for him.

Ann, you've got a busy weekend looking after your grandchildren. Lovely to hear about Daff--I added to her thread, I feel so happy for her. Let's hope that she will continue along the same road. How are you doing with your Christmas cards? I hope you have nearly finished them.

Jean, hope are you are able to get on with making your Christmas cards, I know you are busy getting ready for your new kitchen to be fitted.

Thinking of our friends Marie, Grace, Sue and Liz. Take care everyone.

Best wishes.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Morning All, what a glorious day we are having?

Oh, Jean, what are you like? posting on here at some unearthly hour of a Sunday morning. Coffee and Cream are nice colours which compliment each other well and are soothing to look at. We have similar in our box of a Kitchen. You are lucky, I would love a new Kitchen but mine is so small that it isn't worth renewing. My crockery is in a Dining Room Cupboard. I am lucky to have a separate Sitting Room, so all cooking preparation gets done on the Dining Room table and then into the oven in the Kitchen.

One day we would like to be able to extend backwards from our house. Both houses either side have done that so there wouldn't be a problem getting permission, just the cost that is restricting at the moment. Then we would have a huge Family Room which would be the hub of the house. That will probably be once all the children have left home:-))

Just ordered my Dairy Diary off the web site. Do you all still have your milk delivered by the Dairy? We have an independant dairy here so can't get your special offers, but I do like their diary every year. Loads of hints and tips and recipes every week. It is delivered here without any problem.

2 games of football to sort out thisafternoon, so I am busy (what's new), but am having a bit of time to myself at the moment on my computer. The children are all making jigsaws and hubby is working so peace abounds for a short while.

Happy Sunday to you all.

Hi, Debbie I had been up about an hour... normal for me...the only reason we are having a new kitchen, my D and I are finding it difficult to reach down into the cupboards, and reaching stuff off the higher cupboards, so we deciided it would be a good time to change, J has been very good about it all.... at our age our money is not making any interest, so we may as well enjoy it...
we used to have milk deliverd but got it pinched off the step we stopped it... luckily we have a shop only four doors away...nice speaking to you enjoy the rest of your weekend...

Hello my friends.
Jean, the coffee and cream colour sounds nice. What colour are your cupboard doors. I believe you said cream,so that mixture of colour will go lovely together.
Debbie, our Jean is nearly always an early bird,I am convinced J must be kicking her out of bed for snoring. lol
I know what you mean about small kitchens though. Ours is the size of a postage stamp, and if Roly and I,are in it together we fall over it. Mind you,
I don't think he knows how to use the cooker,or the oven. And the only thing he does know about,is the hob,and thats only because when I am not here,he warms himself a tin of soup. lol
We don't have a milkman anymore,as he started to come so late in the day
and we were always running out, especially when we wanted a cup of tea.
And that is a definate no no in this house. So we would buy a four pint bottle from the supermarket, and the one we buy has a long shelf life.
Enjoy the football this afternoon,I hope the boys are successful in their games.
Hi Sallie, how is Micheals dad now.? What are you and Alun up to today.
Are the family coming over for dinner. I know how close you all are.
Hello Ann,Marie,Huia,Liz and all our friends on here.
We had a lovely meal last night. We went to Nando's for a chicken meal, all healthy eating. My chicken was cooked in Mango and Lime,it was absolutely delicious, and I had corn on the cob and spicey rice with it.
I was to full to have a dessert.
It is nice and sunny here, but very cold outside,so I am not moving outside today.
I am going to prepare the dinner now,so I will pop back later.
Love and best wishes to you all. Mo xxx

Hello All,

Debbie, the weather is lovely here, too. It's nice to hear from both you and Jean early in the day. We had an extention at the side of our house five years ago, now there is only Alun and myself. Sometimes we think it would be a good idea to get a bungalow, but what would we do with all the furniture, and of course we need the extra space when we have visitors to stay. So we will probably stay where we are.
Hope the football matches go well this afternoon. Are the boys in opposite teams again?

Jean you were very, very early posting. Coffee and cream go well together.
What does J think about those colours? I know he didn't fancy having red on the one wall. My brother is just like J, he'll talk to everyone and he soon
has their life story. My late Dad was just the same.
Yes Jean, this is a lovely thread, there are some wonderful people on here that have become very good friends, who are always here to listen and help us if we have a problem. Thank you all for that.

Alun and I enjoyed the 60th party we went to last night, everything went off
well, even if the disco was just a bit too loud. But it was a nice atmosphere and very friendly people.
I am now going to make some Welsh cakes, I haven't made them for years, so hope they will turn out okay. Michael my S-in-L, loves them, so for his sake hope they'll be okay.

I'll look in again later.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Hi all, Sally, glad you enjoyed the party and hope thw Welsh cakes turn out OK, I have never made them.
We have just taken the children out to lunch at the local Har*****r We all had a god bowlful of the free salad. 7 year old had children's fish and chips, I thought she'd never eat it all, three good sized pieces of fish, a good portion of chips and peas and she ate the lot!!! nearly 13 year old had an adult portion of pasta with blackened chicken and garlic bread and just left a few bit of pasta. T had fish and chips and I had scampi. I couldn't manage all the chips. The the children shared a large ice cream and \t and I shared one. a very good meal and they are a joy to take out, so polite and eat all their food. Mum and Dad are due back this evening.

Jean Coffee and cream sounds nice and with that combination you can always choose an accent colour to brighten it up and ring the changes. Terraccota would be nice for a few bits dotted around.
Mo your meal sounds lovely, we have a Nandos coming to \gloucester soon, I believe there is one in Cheltenham but we have never been.
Debbie, hope the football went well today, did they win? Grandson was thrilled yesterday, \granddad took him to see 'his' team - MK Dons play Gillingham and they won.

Mo in Kent Report 18 Oct 2009 14:02

Ann,nearly every team that plays the Gills win. My grandson is a Gills fanatic, but I have no idea why when they lose so often.
I am just so glad I don't live within walking distance of their grounds.
There is nearly always trouble when they play certain teams.
You must go to Nando's when they open near you,I am sure you will enjoy it there.
Ours here is always packed, and they do not do bookings on a Saturday night,so we had to wait for three tables to become available.
Like you Sallie,I would love a bungalow, even a three bedroom one would be plenty for us. A bedroom each, and one for the grandchildren when they come to stay.
As our family are so near to us,they don't stay over. But if the adults want to go away, then nan and grandad come in very handy, for the young ones to stay with.
It would be so easy in a bungalow,to clean the windows, and for painting outside.
See you all later. Love Mo xxx

I grew up in a bungalow, and our first married home was a bungalow. I would love to get back into one, so convenient. But they are so much more expensive than houses for the comparable number of rooms that I doubt we will ever manage it. Unless we win the lottery!!!
Mo apparently they played very well yesterday and OH doesn't know why they lost.

JustJean Report 18 Oct 2009 14:34

We would love a bungalow our home is a large terrace with quite steep stairs and narrow, its not condusive to someone with M.S. and old age, we cant have stair lift too narrow, we cant afford the size of bungalow we need as D works from home a couple of days a week, she has a home office here,we also have private parking for up to 4 cars which is good. still at least we are close to all the stores and soon in the countryside....so looks like I will be crawling up the stairs on my knees soon....lol... or maybe never come down have all meals brought up to me, yessssss.......our first home was a one up/ one down back to back cottage. it was lovely, 7/6 rent old money. keep thinking I will have a go at the lottery, dont know what to do though.....off to have my siesta....back soon....

Huia

Huia Report 18 Oct 2009 19:23

Can somebody please explain to me, what is the definition of a bungalow, and how does it differ from a house?

My English relative who visited last Feb. wrote in her diary that we live in a prefab. I wouldnt call it that, but my son tells me that all the English seem to think anything that isnt made of brick is a prefab. But brick houses are more liable to fall down in an earthquake, timber frame houses are much safer, and iron/aluminium roof rather than tiles.

Huia.

JustJean

JustJean Report 18 Oct 2009 19:48

Huia, a bungalow is a one story home, you have all rooms on one level, very handy if you are perhaps older or infirmed....some of the town councils have them for over 50 years of age, both our parents lived in council bungalows near the end of their lives...... I read on the carers thread you managed to get to see Phil how was he?and how are you...you seem to be getting things sorted now...hope it all goes well for you...

Sallie Report 18 Oct 2009 20:17

Hi again everyone,

Well I made the Welsh cakes, I'm pleased to say they turned out okay, seeing that I haven't made them for so long.

Mo,Glad you enjoyed your meal out last night. We have a Nandos in both Derby and Nottingham, although I've never been to either of them..It was just Alun and I for dinner today, so it was very quiet here.
Jennie and Michael have been decorating two bedrooms and the landing, stairs and hall over the last few days. Although, Michael has done the landing, stairs and hall himself. Michael's Dad is alright, thank
you Mo, he has to do a few ten minute walks each day, and I think it will increase to fifteen minute walks a day next week. He also has to see the doctor tomorrow and have some blood tests done this week. So we are all hoping that everything will be okay.

Ann, we go to the Har*****r that is near Richard when we go to visit him. We have always had a good meal there, the food is well cooked and plenty of it. I sometimes wish that we had bought a bungalow instead of making this house bigger, but I like living where I am, so at the time we thought that was the best option. Never mind, we might win the lottery--huh, chance would be a fine thing. How is your hubby's foot? Hope it is improving and not giving him too much pain.

Jean, when we were first married we lived in a house that Alun's parents use to live in, until they had to move to the house that was attached to the shop that Alun's grandmother owned. We paid his parent's rent of 10/-d. a week. It was quite a nice three bedroom terraced house, with a long front garden. The people that bought the house, still live there after thirty seven years. Although the house was on the High Street, it was known locally as Sun Row. As you say Jean, I think there will be a few of us crawling up the stairs, as we get older. Hope eveything is alright with your daughter and J.

Well everyone, I'm off for a shower before having a cup of tea and a Welsh cake. Speak to you all tomorrow. Take care!

Love to you all, Sallie.xxx

Mo in Kent Report 18 Oct 2009 21:30

Hello again everyone.
I think I am right in saying this, and maybe Jean will be able to confirm it.
From what I was told Huia, when I was a child, that after the war years, they built Prefabs,as they were cheaper and quicker to build,to rehouse all the people that had been bombed out during the war years.
We still have a few of them left in this area, not many mind you,as the council have knocked them down,as the residents passed away. They would not evict them before,as they had lived there all their lives.
Also around here,we had many houses that were built out of breeze blocks. But then they were deemed to be to outdated, and knocked down
and a new housing estate was built.
I am going to be clever now,but did you know that the word Bungalow actually originated from Hindi, basically the word is Bungla in the style of
a Bengal House, which traditionally is a single storey house with a veranda
There you go,arn't I the clever one then.
Here endeth the first lesson taught by Mo. lol
Night Night all. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Sallie

Sallie Report 18 Oct 2009 21:46

Yes Mo, you are right about Prefabs. I know there were a lot of them built in S. Wales after the war. The council even had some built in the town that I was born and brought up in. Some friends of my mother's moved into one, I was only about five or six at the time, and I wanted to know if we could live in one too. I think they were only to house people for a certain number of years, but they lasted a lot longer.
A lot of people loved living in them and didn't want to live anywhere else.
They had made them very comfortable and some were like little 'palaces'.
Anyway, I'll say goodnight to you all.

Love, Sallie.xxx

JustJean

JustJean Report 18 Oct 2009 22:23

We have prefabs still in use in our area, there are quite a few for over Fifties,
they are also used to house officers and family who work at a prison,...they must have been built over 40 years ago. so they have stood the test of time....now Professor Mo, were did you gather all that borin.....em.... interesting knowledge from?

I am off before she gets me....love Jean xx

Huia

Huia Report 19 Oct 2009 01:31

Sorry I did not reply earlier. I was so tired I lay down and slept for 2 hours, despite it being morning (woke too early this morning).

Yes, MO, I knew the word bungalow came from some part of the Indian continent, so you and I are both ejicatid.

I wouldnt call our house a prefab as it took us 12 years to build, although I suppose in some ways it was prefabricated as we would cut the studs and top and bottom plates to length for the walls and put them together while lying flat on the ground, then we would raise the wall into position and brace it there until other walls were in place. When I say 'we', Phil and I did all the work ourselves. That is why it took so long, time and money dictated the speed at which we worked as we did not want a mortgage. We moved into the house 36 years ago.

The early English settlers in Wellington built brick houses but there was a big earthquake which flattened them and it was only the wooden buildings which survived, hence our 'passion' for wooden houses.

I wasnt going to visit Phil while I still have a bit of a virus but I took a bundle of clothes and finished up in his 'ward'. He was in the dining room, fast asleep, no teeth (hasnt worn them for a couple of months as they were hurting him - I wonder if it is worth getting him new ones), mouth wide open. In fact he looked ghastly. I would rather not see him like that. When he dies I will have to surround myself with lots of photos of him when he was his old self so I can try to forget how he finished up.

Huia.
