Mo in Kent Report 3 Nov 2009 14:26

Hello everone.
Marie, you are so lucky to have a bit of sunshine. We have had yet another wet windy day.
And yes I had started to worry that we had not heard from you. If we don't hear some time,I will p.m you to make sure you are o.k,we dont want to lose contact with you, after all this time of being part of our cyber family.

Hi Linda, good to see you on here as well as the friendlies thread, please pop back and speak to us all again.
I imagine Marilyns at the airport, awaiting her flight now.

I wonder if Sallie and Ann are busy doing their scrapping today. Hello to you both,I hope you are both well.

I do hope Jean and J,have been more lucky with the weather where they are. Does anyone live in,or near Wales, perhaps you could update us.

We had a better result at darts last night,we won 4-2 in the team game, and won the pairs 3-0.
But I was very late getting home,it was about 11.45,way past my bedtime.

I will pop back tonight to see if anyone has popped in.
Big ~~~~~~~~to Huia,Debbie and all. Love Mo xxx

Sallie Report 4 Nov 2009 13:41

Hello Girls,

Well, I hope everyone is alright today. Weather not too bad here today, it's mostly bright and dry, although it's a bit colder.

Mo, you were right, I did quite a bit of scrapping yesterday. Also had
'our Chloe' and her Mum call in on the way home from school, so made Chloe something to eat, as I promised her when she came last time, that she could have dinner here when she came again. She did well and ate all her dinner--bless her, she said, ' thank you Mam, that was a lovely dinner, much nicer than school dinners'. So pleased that your team won at darts on Monday night. Well done to you all! You were late getting home Mo-- you're getting quite 'a dirty stopout'. No offence meant!

Ann, pleased that your scrap page on Westonbirt has turned out well. I'm mostly pleased with the pages I've done, there is one page that I'm not too sure about -- but there again I'm very self critical and always think that I could have done better. Not looking forward to tomorrow night, I've never had a bad experience with fireworks, but ever since I was a child I've been frightened of them. One of the fears I have, is that a rocket firework will land on me, to make matters worse when Jennie and Michael were going from here last night I noticed that one had landed on our car. You can imagine what I feel like now!

Marie, nice to hear from you, we miss you when we don't hear from you.
Your grandchildren are certainly keeping you busy. What is your daughter studying for?

Huia, hope your week is going well, and that you are managing to start to sort out the subsidy for Phil's care. Also hope that all is going well ready for the concerts on Saturday. Are your eyes any better?

Marilyn, enjoy your holiday in America -- not sure which part you are staying.

Debbie, hope all is well with you and your family. Are you and the children doing anything for Bonfire night.

I'll try and out how the weather is for Jean and J in Llandudno--Alyson lives in Holywell which isn't too far away, her husband is a photographer, so travels round the area a lot of the time. So I'll give them a ring tonight.

We haven't heard anything from Liz, Grace and Sue for a while, hope that all is well with them all.

I'll look in later, to see if everything is okay.

Back to scrapping now, I've become addicted to it again!

Take care everyone!

Love, Sallie.xxx

Mo glad you had a better result at darts yesterday, well done.
No I wasn't scrapping yesterday, I was 'up my tree' for a change trying to demolish a brick wall unsuccessfully.
Not done any scrapping today so far as we were shopping for food this morning and I had dentist to get my new front denture fitted this afternoon, got an achey mouth now because it is slightly different to the old one and the bite is a bit different. And an achey bank account where I paid for it (£450). It lloks good though so all in all I am pleased with it.

Mo in Kent Report 4 Nov 2009 15:57

Ooooh Ann,I bet it hurt having to pay that amount.
Honestly, teeth are the bane of our lives, they are a pain in coming, and are a pain when they have to come out. Plus they cost us a fortune in between, with toothpaste and dental treatment.
Is it a gold plated tooth. Well it would have to be for me,if it cost that much. lol.
Bless your grandaughter Sallie, they always say such cute things don't they
Like you,I do not like going out on fireworks night, for fear of rockets landing on me.
But unfortunately, these days fireworks night, seems to be lasting longer and longer each year.
They start to sell them so early, and continue selling them right up into the new year.
And they seem to get louder by the year, with really big bangs from rockets.
My poor cat gets petrified every year,so we tend to make sure she comes in a lot earlier, and stays in.
I could not believe a friend of mine, she bought her grandson, some sparklers, then proceeded to tell me,that he held it without a glove on.
How stupid is that, the child is only five, and if he had let the sparkler slip through his fingers,he would have been badly burnt on his fingers.
I must have been a really awful mother,as my children were only allowed sparklers, and we always had a bucket of water handy.
I just do not believe fireworks should be sold in shops, people should go to displays, where people who know what they are doing, are in control.
Sorry ladies,rant over.
I hope you are all o.k. Love to all Mo xxx

Mo, it was a replacement denture, I had the other for 36 years so it served me well, three teeth so actually it is not that expensive. However I can appreciate why I see so many younger, probably unemployed people around with no teeth in the front.

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 4 Nov 2009 18:54

But Ann,if they are unemployed, would they have to pay for their teeth. I am never sure about that question.
And I dare say, some may have lost their teeth, through other circumstances. uhm not saying what is going through my mind though.

Huia

Huia Report 4 Nov 2009 19:24

Good morning (from me) to all.

My eyes still look a bit bloodshot Sallie, but not so sore. If they do not come right soon I will make an appointment to see the eye specialist.

I have a new problem. I have a severe chafing or some such thing in my groin on one side. I thought it was the lace elastic on my undies chafing but I suppose it could be a fungal infection or some such so I am applying an ointment I had once before and it seems to be clearing it up otherwise I will have to find time to go to the doc again. In the meantime I am going knickerless around the house and last night I was sitting in a most undignified manner while watching tv, letting the air get at it. Just as well the people on the screen couldnt see me - at least I hope they couldnt!

I went to Work and Income (WINZ) with my application for a subsidy for Phils hospital. I had to go first to all my banks to get print-outs for the last month. I am glad I got the lady at WINZ to help with filling out the form, my head was going round in circles, and I was not too sure about some of the questions, but we got there. She then had to send the form off to Whangarei. I dont know why the local branch cant deal with it.

I havent visited Phil for a week now as the hospital has some virus going round and they have banned visiting. It doesnt bother me not being able to visit as I am very busy this week and he doesnt seem to recognise me.

Our first 'dress' rehearsal went very well. We went by bus to Mt Albert where we are having one of the concerts on the 15th. Tomorrow evening (Friday) we are having our final rehearsal in the Papakura church where we have our practices and are having the first 2 concerts on the Sat evening and Sun afternoon.

Yesterday I looked up the cemetery records for the man who died in the Kawhia district in 1939 but I couldnt find him in any of the cemeteries around there. I think the records are just MIs so perhaps he doesnt have a headstone. I suggested to the person who wanted the info that the death cert will tell her where he was buried, so she has now ordered it. If she comes over to look for the cemetery I might even go with her if I am not otherwise engaged. It is about a 3 hour drive to Kawhia, which is near the mouth of a harbour. Now that I dont have to worry about visiting Phil regularly I can take a break like that.

Huia.

Mo in Kent Report 4 Nov 2009 19:46

Huai,it does sound like you have a fungal infection,in your groin. It can be caused by sweat. Has your body been over heating lately.
Can you get e45 cream over there,if you can, that may help you.
My lord,I have a vision of you sitting with with your bits on show,oh my goodness. It was a good job you didn't have anyone come to pay a surprise visit.
I dont know who would have been more embarrassed, you or them. lol

Have they told you how long it will take to sort your application for help, with Phil's care.

I don't know, this problem with your eyes, has been going on for some time now, hasn't it. I do hope it clears up soon,if not please go and see your doctor,it's better to be safe than sorry.

Don't forget to keep us updated on your choral concerts. I bet it sounds beautiful.

Take good care of yourself. Love Mo xxx

AnninGlos Report 4 Nov 2009 20:16

Mo, I am not sure if they would have to pay or not. If they didn't they would only get a very basic set of teeth on the NHS. I think mine will have to be adjusted when I go for a review next week. They are feeling a bit loose at the moment compared to my old ones. I suppose it is what you are used to. Goodness knows how these kids get used to all the ironmongery they have on their teeth.

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 4 Nov 2009 20:55

I know what you mean Ann. One of my grandaughters, has just had her train tracks fitted, and was in tears,as they were hurting her so badly.
The first night she had them in,she was afraid to go to sleep,in case she swallowed them.
My daughter, had to explain to her, that when she takes them out to clean them, she has to make sure that they click, when she puts them back in.
The dentists these days, seem to be more aware of straightening the teeth, where as when we were young, the most they did was, either to fill them,or remove them.
So far six of my grandchildren, have had their teeth straightened this way.

Sallie

Sallie Report 4 Nov 2009 21:59

Huia, I hope your eyes will get better soon, maybe you need a different ointment--as you say it might be better to go to see the eye specialist.
Pleased to hear that rehearsals are going well, ready for the weekend concerts.

Mo and Ann, Jennie had to wear braces on both her top and bottom teeth for almost five years. Her teeth were in awful mess, she had to have ten good teeth taken out, because she had too many for the size of her mouth.
Having a small mouth has never stopped her talking though. Although, in all the years she had the braces, she never complained once.

Well I am going to make us a nice cuppa now, and I think I might try and get an early night.

Speak to you all tomorrow.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Hi Everyone,

Last night the Air con packed up and I was outside on the deck talking to the stars !!

So slept on the sun lounger, good job it was comfy . got the engineers to fix it today.

Huia , I get that fungal infection as well I use Sudocrem can you get that in NZ ....I also get it under my boobs !! so that's my magic cream and it comes with me all over the world.
Hope it gets better soon .....my god what with your eyes as well, only hope that gets better soon.

We wore our poppies on the flight and the air hostess wanted to know why we were wearing them........don't the rest of the world know about our Service Men or others ?

I hope you are all well and keeping warm at least the one' s in UK,........others are probably in the heat I am in.

Take care all of you.
Marilyn xx

AnninGlos Report 5 Nov 2009 15:44

The main problem with the new denture is that it is too loose, the clips are a lot smaller than the old one and don't clip on the teeth securely. I hope she will be able to fix it when I go back next week for a review. Meanwhile I did wear my old ones overnight because I didn't have complete faith int e new ones staying put they are very small so easily swallowed!!!

Hello everyone.
A big hello to Marilyn, who is soooo far away at the moment, sweltering in the heat.
We do feel for you Maz,with the aircon not working.lol
We are as snug as bugs, wrapped up in our thermals, with the central heating on.
I do hope you are having a great time though.
You should hear the racket outside, all the fireworks going off.
I hope you are o.k Sallie, safe inside the house. Turn the TV up,or the radio
louder. I am thinking of you love.
Big ~~~~~~~~~~~to Marie in OZ and Huia in NZ,and all friends on this thread.
I hope our Jean is enjoying herself in Wales.
I wonder if Debbie is having a bonfire, for the children. Enjoy yourselves if you are Debbie.
Hi Ann,I dont blame you taking the new teeth out at night,if they feel loose.
Night Night God Bless. Love Mo xx

Hi All,

Nice to hear from you Marilyn, from sunny and hot Florida. I don't envy you though, I much prefer the cooler weather. Hope they've managed to fix the air-conditioning for you. Enjoy your holiday!

Mo, how are things with you today? I hope everything is going well!
Jennie couldn't have her medication today, one of the nurses rang her about nine this morning, telling her that they had trouble with the lock on the door and couldn't get into the lab where they keep and mix the medication. So she now has to go on Monday morning instead--hopefully
the lock will be sorted by then.

Ann, hope she can do something to fix your dentures when you go back next week.

Huia, I hope all is going well for you this week, and that your eyes and the fungal problem are getting better.

Love to all our friends on this thread, and hope that you are all okay.

Haven't heard too many fireworks tonight, had the TV on, and with me being a bit hard of hearing, it hasn't been so bad. Thank goodness!

I'll speak to you all tomorrow.

Goodnight all!

Love, Sallie.xxx

Hello Girls,

Hope all is well with everyone today. I'm glad that Bonfire night is over, although I know of a few people that are having a bonfire and firework party over the weekend. So it looks as though I will still be in hiding, over the next couple of nights.

Not sure what the weather forecast is for the weekend, I have some washing to do, so I'm hoping that it will dry on the line.

It's very quiet on the boards, doesn't seem to be much going on at the moment.

I'll look in later on today.

Love to you all. Sallie.xx

Mo in Kent Report 6 Nov 2009 15:44

Good afternoon ladies.
Well Sallie,if the weather forecasters predictions are correct,we are due rain tonight, and over the weekend. Hooray,it may be quieter tonight.
Stay inside love, with everything turned up. If Alun complains, give him some ear plugs. LOL.
We are hoping for a nice peaceful night, our son is going over to baby sit his children. That does sound strange I know, but his ex wife is going out dancing.
I was very lucky when I went shopping. I bought my usual washing powder separately, and instead of it costing £5.97, it came up as £4.00,so
I sent Roly back in to buy another one.
And when we went shopping today,we did a price check again, and as sure as eggs is eggs, they were still £4.00,so I got another two.
The price ticket was definately £5.97,so what a bargain, nearly a £2.00 saving per pack.
Having our son back at home,I am forever washing,so I was really pleased with my bargain.
I will pop back later to see you all. Love Mo xxx

Sallie

Sallie Report 6 Nov 2009 20:01

Mo, you did have a good bargain with your washing powder. Looks as though I won't be drying out tomorrow, never mind, worse things could happen.

Where is everyone today? I think Ann is away for the weekend, I'm sure she mentioned it on her Scrapbooking thread last night. Hope she and her OH have a good weekend.

Mo, I hope you and Roly enjoy your peaceful evening. Alun is in the garage doing his train layout, and I'm going to do some more scrapping.
Before I start on that I'm going to make us a nice cup of tea, because once I start I have to keep on until I can't do anymore.

Love and best wishes to everyone, Sallie.xxx

It's lovely and quiet Sallie.
We have been noshing sweets, like a couple of kids, enjoying our second childhood.
Guess what, even though its windy outside, and a bit wet,the fireworks are still going off.
I did not realise that Ann was going away this weekend,I hope she enjoys herself.
Enjoy your scrapping love, speak to you tommorrow. Love Mo xxx

Huia Report 6 Nov 2009 23:50

During our dress rehearsal last night somebody somewhere, I presume in a park, was letting off lots of extremely loud fireworks, the loudest I have ever heard, it sounded as if they were just outside the church. I hope there wont be any like that tonight during our concert as it was a bit distracting at first.

Huia.
