Hi everyone, brought my notebook with me so just have time to pop on and say Hi. Enjoying time with our daughter and family, Just been to M&S Hedge End Southampton area, a really large store and really well stocked, I had to be really strict with myself, they had so many gorgeous colours. I ended up buying a black skirt, a mauvey coloured top and a pair of lightweight black /315 boots. I already have a tan pair and they are so comfortable to wear.
It is nice to be having all my meals cooked for me. SiL is a really good cook.
I am hoping for a sneaky visit to Hobbycraft tomorrow but will have to wait and see.

Hope there are no fireworks to disturb you tonight Sallie.

Everyone else, be back home tomorrow and will 'speak' then.

Marie,I wish that we observed the same ruling here,as you do there about fireworks.
We have had a lovely day today Marie, bright sunshine, but still chilly.
But we have got the heating on here at the moment,as it's come in cold now.
I hope Sebastion gets good results. It's a good sign if they think they have done well.
What is the time difference now I wonder,if it's 12 midday here,I wonder what it is over.
Hi Ann,enjoy yourself being pampered,it doesn't happen that often.

Sallie Report 7 Nov 2009 20:52

Hello Girls,

Nice to hear that everyone is okay. It's been bright but cold here today, although it has started to rain now. At least I managed to get the washing dried today, that's a good job done.

Marie, lovely to hear from you. Keeping my fingers crossed for Sebastian
and hope that he's done really well in his exams. I wish that it was the same in the UK, where we only had organised firework displays. I can't see that happening though. Conjunctivitus is a nasty thing to have, Alun had it years ago, the trouble was, he got it when he was doing the final exams for his degree. Don't know how he got through them, but he did, thank goodness.

Ann, you sound as though you've had a good day-- I don't blame you for buying yourself some new things, it's nice to spoil yourself now and again.
One of my Auntie's lived in Southhampton years ago, I always went to stay with her and her family every summer school holidays--I loved going there. My Uncle was a Customs and Excise Officer in the docks, one year he took us to look round the Queen Mary and another year we went to look round the Queen Elizabeth.

Mo, hope all is well with you and yours today. It sounds as though you've had weather pretty much like we've had today. We've been trawling the model railway shops today, first in Derby and then in Nottingahm, I got a bit fed up to be honest, until Alun said that he had to go to Hobbycraft. Oh, I soon cheered up, so ended up buying a few things and also bought a Christmas present for Michael. We called to see them on the way home and to ask them if they are coming for their Sunday roast tomorrow. I didn't need to ask--of course they are coming.

Huia, I hope your eyes are better and that the concerts are all going well, without the noise of fireworks going off outside. Alun was a bit down a bit earlier on because Wales lost to New Zealand in rugby. Not too bad a result though it was 12-19, it has been a lot worse in the past.

Hope the weather has been nice for Jean and J today. Wonder how the fitters are getting on with their kitchen--lets hope everything is going to plan.

Debbie, Sue, Grace, Liz and Marilyn I hope you are all alright.

Love and best wishes to you all. Sallie.xxx

Hi Sallie.
There is going to be five of us for sunday dinner tommorrow. My son has got the children for the day,so we all luch together.
I have to make yorkshire puds, the children call them cakes, but they love them.
I have never known children to enjoy sunday dinner,as much as these two.
I just hope our son is not to hung over,he has gone out clubbing tonight.
And he normally walks home afterwards. But it is such a long walk,it's about five miles. But thank the lord he doesn't take his car.
I still worry about him walking home though,as you never know these days
who you are liable to meet on the way.
Night Night all. Speak to you tommorrow. Love Mo xxx

I think I will try to make an appointment to see my eye specialist as the eyes are still rather bloodshot.

Our first concert last night went very well, although I was sweating in the heat. It is always much too hot for me, and this time I wasnt even on the top tier of our staging near hot lights, and I had my new georgette blouse on. I despair of ever feeling cool in a concert. Not sure if I will continue with choir next year anyway, I will have to find another hobby or group to join if I leave choir. Perhaps I will take up bowls or croquet (I always fancied playing that).

MO, the time here is now 10.48am. So we are 13 hours ahead of you although a month or so ago we were 11 hours ahead.

Maz,did you say a prayer for me whilst you were at it.
It's good to hear you are having a nice realxing time. Those biting thingy's
only go for sweet meat,so that is a compliment to you really. They must be having a real feast.
Thanks Huia, for letting me know the time diffence.
I hope you make the eye appointment soon,to get yourself sorted, you can't continue to suffer, like you have been.
The only solution I can come up with, for your body overheating,is to go on stage nude. LOL You will definately get all the limelight then.
I have had the grandchildren here today. It's been lovely, but tiring.
Will have to do some clearing up in a minute.
See you all later. Love Mo xxx

MO, I did say to somebody that I was thinking of wearing my birthday suit. The only trouble is that we had to wear black bottoms and I dont know if I have enough black nugget in the house. Anyway, I survived our second concert, although when the sweat started trickling down the sides of my face it felt like insects crawling down and I wanted to brush them off. We have another concert next Sunday afternoon in Mt Albert and most of us will go there on a chartered bus, about half an hour from Papakura.

The social worker is coming at 1.00 this afternoon to check that I am doing ok, so I had better wash the accumulation of dirty dishes and tidy up and sweep the floor - something I do only when I am expecting visitors or my head is bumping the ceiling! My odd job man is coming at 2.00 to mow the lawns. I could probably do them myself but with this conjunctivitis I would rather not risk it stirring up the dust and pollens. Plus it would take me 2-3 hours if not more.

Huia.

Dont overdo it before the social worker comes Huia. And you let the handy man do the grass, you definately dont want to aggravate your eyes anymore than is neccessary.
I have a mental image of you,on stage in just your black trousers. It would be such a funny sight.
Especially if everyone was dressed the same. LOL
Enjoy your day love. Moxxx

Cooee everybody,where are you.
Sorry I did not speak to you yesterday,I was in and out all day.
Then I had darts last night. We drew the game 3-3,but won the pairs 3-0.
I actually took my glasses with me last night. I have forgotten to take them
every week so far. If it hadn't been for a friend reminding me last night,I would probably have forgottenthem again.
Well girls how are we all. Everything is fine this end.
It's been another bitterly cold day here, and then it rained during the afternoon.
All the washing has had to be dried on the clothes horse,in front of the fire.
We really miss the nice weather don't we.
I bet Marie and Huia, are basking in lovely sunshine.
Poor Jean and J,have not had the best of weather have they.
Big ~~~~~~~~~~to our Jean,I hope the kitchen is coming on nicely.
Sallieeee where are you,are you still scrapping.
Hi Ann,hope you are both well.
Debbie,hows the family?

Sallie Report 10 Nov 2009 20:39

Hello Girls, where are you all? I haven't been on for a few days, I've been busy trying to get the scrapbook done, as I have another one to do for a Christmas present. Today there were six of us for our evening meal, Jennie and Michael needed to phone BT because their phone is not working and Laura and Chloe came here from school, so I ended up cooking for us all. I had a good little helper though, Chloe laid the table for me and I must say she did a very good job of it, bless her.

Mo, good to hear that your team won one game and drew one, last night.
I think I'll be drying my washing inside on the clothes horse this week too,
although I did dry out on Saturday and got the bedding mostly dry on Sunday, just had to finish them off indoors. I bet you really enjoyed having your grandchildren to dinner on Sunday, it's lovely to see them, worth the tired feeling when they've gone.

Huia, have you managed to get in touch with the eye specialist yet? I hope you will see someone soon. It's nice to know the time difference between difference between NZ and the UK, I can never work it out, so thank you for letting Mo know. Weather hasn't been very nice here today, it's been wet and miserable, I'm glad that I haven't had to go out.

Ann, hope you are alright, and that hubby's foot is feeling better. One of our friend's had a hip replacement about four weeks ago, he was told by the hospital that he would have to use two walking sticks after he came off crutches, but didn't listen to them and thought that he would use one. He lost his balance and fell, so had to go into hospital again to have his hip put back into place and also had a brace fitted, whatever that means.

Jean and J aren't having very good weather. I bet Jean has managed to get all her cards done.

Marie, Debbie, Sue, Grace, Marilyn and Grace are all alright.

Speak to you all soon . Take care!

Hi Sallie.
I thought everyone had left the thread for good, and how would I explain that to Jean when she gets back.
Yes it was lovely to see the grandchildren, but oh so tiring.
We forget how much hard work young ones are.
If I popped up to the loo, they were waiting outside the toilet door for me to come out again.
Oooh nanny, can we do the washing up,yes by all means. It all had to be done again when they had gone home, bless them. After all they are only
both coming up for 6and 10.
I do hope that Marie will let us know the time difference, between us and OZ,as well.
I know sometimes it is about twelve hours, but with us keep putting the clocks back and forwards,I can never keep up with it all.
Speak to you again tommorrow Sallie. Night Night, god bless. Mo xxx

Just been watching BBC4 a programme on The Carpenters, so sad that she died so young, she had a beautiful voice. I didn't know he was married with 5 children.
I have been busy finishing off my Christmas cards and writing the foreign ones which will have to go off. I did do one scrap page of my Gt Gt nephew and niece and their Mums.

Good to see you are busy with your scrapping Sallie, and I hope you do well at the darts Mo. Jean will be getting excited ats eeing her new kitchen soon now, hope it has all gone well for her. She has not had good weather and it has turned very cold now but I am sure she will have enjoyed her crafting.

Hi all.

I phoned the eye place on Mon. morning but couldnt get an appointment to see the specialist until the 25th so went to the doc on Tues. She has now prescribed polytears for the dry eye, but didnt renew the prescription for the antihistamine eyedrops, although I still have some of the antihist. tabs. A woman I know says she has had allergic conjuctivitis and it is hard to get rid of :(((( I just hope the specialist can come up with something when I see him in a fortnight, if I still have it then, otherwise I suppose it is just a matter of keeping indoors, everything sealed off to keep all the pollens out. Fat chance of that.

Yes, MO, with the chopping and changing with clocks it is difficult to keep track. For a little while there was 12 hours difference between us and you as we put ours forwards, but then you put yours back. I think the eastern states of OZ are about 2/3 hours behind us. Although I think I read that Queensland doesnt go in for all the nonsense of daylight saving. Western Australia is probably quite a few hours more difference.

Huia Report 10 Nov 2009 23:16

On Sunday evening, about 8.00, a couple of young fellows knocked on my door, wanting to borrow a coat hanger as they had locked their keys in their car at the top of the hill. We are the last house on the road going up the hill, and no houses over the hill, so we get all the people who are in strife. As it is about a 20 min walk up to the top I drove them up while there was still a little daylight. They didnt have a torch and mine seems to have 'walked' out of the glove box. They used a cell phone to see what they were doing as it got darker and I was just going to come home to get a proper torch when they managed to get into the vehicle. I didnt know, until I got home and wondered why the smell had come with me, that I had trodden in something unsavoury.

Last night just after 9pm, another knock on the door. Somebody wanted to know if there was a park ranger nearby with a key to the locked gate over in the valley as one of their mountain bike friends had gone missing. I made a phone call to somebody and was given the code for the padlock, but told I should ring one of the rangers first (he gave me the number) so we rang the ranger and the young man answered lots of questions before being allowed to go and look for his friend. I lent him a couple of torches since they (there were 4 of them) didnt have any. I was just heading to bed after 11pm when they arrived back with my torches. The missing fellow had taken a wrong turning when he came off the track onto the road. He hadnt been out here before.

Several years ago when Phil and I were asleep I was woken by a knocking on the front door, dug Phil in the ribs then followed him out. A young fellow had managed to get his car stuck in a hole at the top of the hill (popular spot for trouble) so we went up and towed him out. That was at 2am. I hope nobody gets into strife that late now I am on my own.

Huia, you are an angel helping people out. BUT,you are putting yourself at risk love, please take care at night, you never know who is knocking at your door. And as you are on your own,I would hate for something to happen to you,and no one to know that you needed help.
There are a lot of strange people out there.
I hope the Polytears help with your eyes. I know it seems a long time to wait to see the specialist, but if the Polytears dont work,at least he will see
your eyes at there worst. But hopefully they will be better by then.
Ann I loved to listen to the Carpenters,it was such a shame when Karen died so young.
If I remember correctly, didn't she have an eating disorder,or something like that.
Is Richard still alive? I didn't know he had five children either.
